Hot dang, TriForce Heroes is really fun. I never really got to experience coop zelda with Four Swords, mostly b/c I played it by myself, but this is very enjoyable.
anyone know much about r4 cards and their ilk? I'm thinking of getting one because I'd like to load some romhacks up and actually play them on my DS (like Pokemon BlazeBlack - I have a legit copy of Black/Black 2), but most sites that I see strike me as a little too close to "shady" for my liking.
Man I decided to look at the section for romhacks on gbatemp and damn, HANS is making it blow up. Custom tracks in Mario Kart 7, save editors, Challenge Mode for Pokemon... this is amazing.
HANS is basically all I ever wanted for homebrew, I love romhacks. I also really like the fact that the new homebrew launcher that runs in the background allows you to take ingame screenshots regardless of the game.
Some more Tetra gameplay.
The Japan-only "Collectible Badge Center" app got a major update the other day. For anyone who doesn't know what it is, it's a first-party microtransaction-based crane game where you can collect "badges" of graphics from Nintendo games to place and arrange on your home menu. It's been out for almost a year now. I've been collecting almost every badge they've ever released, which is over 3,000 at this point. The new update adds a big trophy to the main menu area that upgrades as you collect more, and since I already have a near-complete collection, I have the highest-level trophy from the get-go. Very few people (especially in the west) are likely to ever see it, so I figured I'd share: By my count I actually have 3038, not 3036. They've released 3053 total. They do re-runs of old badges all the time, so I just have to wait for the few I missed to come back around for the 100%.

Is it merely a vanity application or does it integrate itself into nintendo games in some way ala amiibo?
That's pretty neat! Is it merely a vanity application or does it integrate itself into nintendo games in some way ala amiibo?
Just vanity. The badges don't do anything except pretty up the empty spaces and folders on your home menu. You can also get themed replacements for the built-in app icons. Just to show you an old example, here's my main menu decorated in some of the SMB sprite badges they had at launch: These days they have a shitload more, though. Pikmin, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Splatoon, etc. My favorites are the sprites. They've done several sets of NES sprites from SMB, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, etc, so you can set up little scenes with them. Most of them have accompanying themes, too. I have no idea why they haven't released this in the west. Possibly too afraid of the backlash from releasing such a microtransaction-heavy game? It does give you daily free tries.

Why does North America not have that already?
Why does North America not have that already?
Gambling
Gambling
Ah, I suppose that's one way to look at it. It's just a crane game, though; isn't that at least a gray area?
I thought there were stricter laws in Japan for Gambling. I mean just look at all the terrible smart phone games there are of gambling. There was that thing about changing the pokemon gambling games, but still. Personally I believe that it is an issue of nintendo thinking there isn't a market for it.

For my birthday, I got yokai watch. It is pretty fun, but I am having trouble guessing what type of food the yokai will like when trying to friend them. Most of the designs are really cute and worth it.
I finally got a chance to buy and play Fire Emblem: Awakening, and I have to say, [sp]I am not a great strategist. Chapter six, and I've already lost three people. I lost Sumi the first fight I got her due to being an idiot, I lost Chrom's sister in that huge fight that took place before CH.6, and I lost that little kid that came with Aribelle.[/sp] Things aren't looking good. Not sure if I should just restart at this point and go casual, because I know losing units will somehow lock me out of a better ending. I'm just not sure how to size up my units well enough if they start off weak- they just seem to get torn to bits the first mistake I happen to make with them.

No man left behind. Another tip: Frederick is your best friend. He's a pre-premote, which means he has a midgame class which gives him amazing stats for the beginning of the game. If someone is a little weak have them hang around near him so your weak character can get a hit in and Frederick can finish them off, or vice versa.

You'll learn how to play as you go on, Awakening is one of the easiest games in the series too. Even when you're good at the game though, you do lose units occasionally. Some people like Ironmaning it, but for most people you just restart the chapter if you lose someone and play more cautiously next time.
I just find it kind of hard to train units like mages/archers/followers in battle because they usually come with really low HP amounts and shitty damage early on
As a general rule a kill gets more experience, so use stronger units to get the enemy down in health and finish them off with your weak unit. Pair-ups in Awakening often give good stat boosts so make use of that to lessen how weak they are. By far the easiest way though is to get into random battles in the overworld against risen. They're weak as fuck and with a more powerful unit to provide backup they make good training dummies.
If I recall, Frederick gives +5 Atk and +5 Def when he's paired to a unit, that's some really good survivability early on, and for your Archers, it'll ramp up their damage as well
HHD seriously is way more fun and comfy than I thought it'd be, was a really pleasant surprise for me.
Toon Link will be coming to Monster Hunter X for the 3DS. Also I don't have the image handy but starting today via Spotpass the Villager Felyne will be available in HHD along with some special items from Monster Hunter.
yokai watch is a really fun games, really recommend it to anyone looking for a "gotta catch em all" experienced that isn't pokemon my main gripes are the RNG bs when capturing yokai and the terrible map system.
I just got happy home designer with the nfc reader (another one of my birthday presents) and I agree that it is great. Also for some reason a 5 pack of japanese amiibo cards was cheaper than 2 packs here in america so I jumped on that deal. I know that it is only 3 per pack but it still was a steal in my opinion. Sadly there weren't any real stand out characters that I already loved but I did get a cute bear and bunny. [editline]9th November 2015[/editline]
my main gripes are the RNG bs when capturing yokai and the terrible map system.
I agree completely on those points. Sometimes the yokai love the food but still don't come with me. Most of the time that is the last of that food for me too. Also I feel there needs to be a way for me to feel more close to my yokai. The easiest way would be to add some form of yokai breeding. Maybe spin it as fusion rebirth or something. That is honestly one of the only ways I feel connected to pokemon is through breeding. I just need something so that I raise yokai from level one and not starting at 23 or something. Also there needs to more than just 1 evolution to the yokai. It just feels anticlimactic with only one amazing evolution than nothing else.

Woah what. WHAT. Wow, what timing. Well, I'm not gonna spend all that money on all those badges again. .....probably. :worried: I very much doubt they'll have all the badges from the Japanese version anyway, because there are a lot of culture-related ones, like for Japanese holidays and traditions. Also sets from Japan-only games like Band Brothers (unless they suddenly bring those over too).
