Nathan Grayson of Kotaku is reporting that the petting minigame from the localized version of Fire Emblem Fates has been removed
I've never been more conflicted on something ever. One hand, it was really stupid pointless pandering and having the characters go "Oh you're good at grabbing at my body teeheehee" is beyond idiotic But the other hand completely cutting it out instead of attempting to change it/tone it down or replace it is fucked beyond belief, especially seeing as it's actually important to gameplay. Like this is actually hurting the game to such a degree that part of me thinks the guy at kotaku misheard or something.
Isn't Fire Emblem kind of marketed to kids in the international market, though?
It's possible that this is the case, that he misheard or stretched the truth for clicks. He is the only one reporting it right now, and everyone else is just copying his article. Is it possible that they put an embargo out to stop talking about it? I think a few people have review copies and haven't seen any footage or stories beyond this one.
On another note, what happened to Fire Emblem? The GBA one I played was pretty badass, but the latest ones just seem to be... Uh... I dunno, hella anime I guess.

GBA one still had people turning into dragons and shit and Ike literally fells a god.

I mean, I definatly don't remember a headpatting minigame.
I wonder if modders will look at Pokemon VC's trading changes to see how they could make other games use linking, that'd be rad

FE has always been inspired by anime. I think it's just more noticeable now because of the moe culture that's sweeping Japan right now. Just look at Marth from the old NES games and compare him to the Gundam characters at the time and tell me they don't look similar.
So is the FE Fates game going to allow you to date all female characters as a girl, or are there only certain lesbian characters? I have only played The Sacred Stones on GBA, so idk much about the franchise.

It sucks, but it's better than nothing.
Third Path "Revelations" allows access to both homosexual characters as well as all classes previously locked behind the path you chose.
Yeah, though you have to play one of the other games in order to access it. It sounds kinds cheap, but considering they appear to be three individual games that sounds like a hell of a deal.

It sounds kinds cheap, but considering they appear to be three individual games that sounds like a hell of a deal.
Especially Nohr being the closest to old school FE where there is no map, it's mission after mission with no grinding and limited exp and money. Only stopping by My Castle in between boards. Tho I don't feel like it's cheap really. Many if not most multi-path games need at least one playthrough to unlock some extra path(s). Think Sonic Adventure 2, where Final Story was unlocked once you completed both sides. Plus, it allows the players to learn about new mechanics, such as the new weapon triangle being completely changed for half of the weapon categories, as well as new weapons types and new classes. It accommodates both veterans and newcomers to all the new stuff before tackling the rest.
One side (aka game) has a lesbian, the other a gay man, so pick the version with the gay option. It sucks, but it's better than nothing.
Which one has the lesbian character? And how has the game changed since Sacred Stones?
Which one has the lesbian character? And how has the game changed since Sacred Stones?
Birthright has the lesbian character As for how it's changed since Sacred Stones: -No magic triangle (i.e. no dark-weak-to-light, light-weak-to-anima, or anima-weak-to-dark) --In Fates only, magic and bows have been combined into the standard weapon triangle -As of Awakening, supports can reach S rank, i.e. marriage if units are of opposite sex (with the exception of the two gay supports) --If two units are married, you can get their kid in an optional paralogue chapter, and the kid inherits traits from both parents -Awakening and Fates: Birthright still have the world map -You can reclass instead of only promoting -No more stupid fog levels -Pair-up mechanic introduced in Awakening where two units can join together in one tile and give each other stat bonuses and other things, altered in Fates -A bunch of other changes
Which one has the lesbian character? And how has the game changed since Sacred Stones?
Fates has the best maps in the franchise, lots of map morphing going on via skills Weapon triangle got reworked somewhat You can now marry characters and they poop out babbies for you to send into war. No more weapon durability Hoshido side has a overworld type thing going on so you can grind and whatnot. Nohr is classic FE and has you play missions straight back to back only stopping at the castle between missions to prep up.
Has anyone else got a confirmation about the petting minigame getting removed? Because this no longer makes sense. Camilia's infamous scene is unaltered and in the game.
Most importantly, you can get down with a fish. [T]http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/d/d2/Lilith_portrait.png/revision/latest?cb=20151217150231[/T][T]http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/2/24/Lilithavatar.png/revision/latest?cb=20150726095650[/T]
Has anyone else got a confirmation about the petting minigame getting removed? Because this no longer makes sense. Camilia's infamous scene is unaltered and in the game.
Is that really considered infamous. Also nah it's only kotaku and people reposting kotaku. The best part is it's so poorly written in the first place that it probably wasn't removed.
its kotaku we know how shit they are

It took forever to level up in that game.

I like how the 3DS subreddit thinks removing the head patting thing is not ok but they're fine with the dialogue changes a week ago. A massive double standard of "I don't like it so it's fine if it's not in the game". FE is a weeaboo game now people need to accept that, or don't buy it.
Culturally, the head petting might just be plain weird as a gameplay mechanic. even though the series was never upfront with interaction to that extent before. Fire Emblem is a series where characters just gets personalized because they warm up to allies, taking a back seat to the story. i just take the headpetting to be an extension to the sudden emphasis on pairing up characters for babies even when stuff like that had already happened in previous games. Could just be evolution due to interactivity, a turn-based strategy game probably isn't too taxing on systems, so they have the means and budget for FMVs and voice acting and with customization main characters, it might be veering too much on the wish fulfillment side. with that said, if it wasn't for being on a wildly popular system and had no breeding mechanics or choosable waifus, Awakening might not have been popular. Probably makes one of the games hard to get optimal pairup chances since you can't repeat stages though.
Nah it's literally just so you can grope animes while they talk about how good you are with your hands and how much they love you while blushing and swaying back and forth. It's only there to be get your perv on. It raises bond levels and affection stats between Corrin and the cast members but it's easy to see why they decided "this is idiotic and should get changed" Like even Japan thinks it's too much.

They just flat out removed it. When it's important to leveling up characters (I believe) too. Personally I don't give a fuck if I can pat my waifu's head or not but the point is that they're blatantly cutting a significant amount of content from the game.
If only they also dropped the Pokemon-style splitting of a single game into two or three games
If only they also dropped the Pokemon-style splitting of a single game into two or three games
That would mean the couldn't charge you two or three times for the whole game.
