At this point, people are nitpicking everything about the game without much thought. Kinda sad really. It was even confirmed that swimsuits were in a few weeks ago. So I'd let this hate train die down on its own.
Some of the swim suits were removed, but not all of them. It is sad there is much misinformation going around, and it hasn't helped that people who had access early on gave either misinformation due to not being far enough along, or had been silent on issues entirely. I still feel that most of this would have been avoided if Nintendo provided a list of confirmed changes themselves early on right when it was learned skinship was removed.

I keep hearing "No they're all actually in there" as well as a couple videos so I actually don't know
Seeing as this is the 3DS thread and misinformation keeps getting posted like on the last page it's just kinda confusing to me. Like that image saying "This is the shop maxed out!" turned out to be fake and just why
"I hate this, so you should too!" People make up fake shit to rile up others into their mindset. Spread enough misinformation over something and you will hurt it. But with the positive reviews I'm seeing, that niche hate will not hurt much. So far, the only censoring I know of in the entire game is the restriction of petting to only the S-support characters being asleep and the dialogues (but that's not new). The hotsprings are still in, the skimpy swimsuits too and the homosexual characters as well. [editline]t[/editline] Okay so a few swimsuits are gone (still need confirmation tho). Big deal. The biggest thing that has to be changed is Nintendo's communication and a brake on some of the Treehouse's decisions. They showed many times trailers for features and the other seems to have a lot of power over many things with very little direction. Why are they suddenly afraid to post changes between versions? Same goes for the non-existent patch notes in Smash Bros. Nintendo, come on. It's not even that hard. Talk to us, man!
Thinking on it more it's probably just because the Japanese version has been out so long that nerds have had a shit ton of time to over analyze it so anything slightly different is wrong. Could you imagine if Earthbound came out today with all the changes it had? Like hell Awakening is pretty well loved over here and it's just about the exact same spot as Fates. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] It's this games fate to be shitpost to death I guess.
Also there's a video of the English version with all the swimsuits so uhhhhhhhhhh
Where?
Where?
I can't find the specific video I saw but there is this one.
I can't find the specific video I saw but there is this one.
That's the fan translation. You can tell because it has different button prompts, such as "Butler Menu" instead of "Castle Menu".
NoA hard at work Hear the strategy part of it is still decent though, even if the dialogue and voicing is really questionable. Probably gonna wait a while and check a few streams before I decide whether to get it or not.
So some fun facts about Fates In the Japanese version there's roughly about 3000 voice lines, in the English version there's closer to 1200. The lines removed? All the moaning and "a-ahhh" from petting. That's hilarious. Also videos are surfacing of all the voices, a lot of them are good, large number are middleground and only a couple are bad. Then there's Dwyer who is fucking hilarious oh my lord. Of course he can be a herbmerchant E: Seriously I haven't laughed this hard since I was introduced to the CD-I cutscenes holy sHIT
Good lord, I had my headphones on while listening to this, and it scared the living shit out of me when he started whispering into my left ear super loud. :scream:
ex troopers is tight even though i have no idea is happening this needs to get translated one day
There was an interview with Aqua's VA where she said that VAs didn't even get the names of the characters they were doing VA for, let alone their bios or what mood the lines should have, just a list of lines.
Damn, I haven't heard about voice acting production troubles that bad since the Ocean/Westwood/AB Groupe dub of Dragon Ball Z (which, for those who don't know, had an INCREDIBLY rushed production, which resulted in voice directors being switched a lot (with some not even knowing what the hell they were doing), and even numerous points where they would only let the voice actors do ONE take on their lines, and that was it, recording session over).
Which ones are missing? I keep hearing "No they're all actually in there" as well as a couple videos so I actually don't know
I believe it is the level 1 one was the removed one (not 100% sure), but there are other swim suit options you can unlock later on.
Bought Tomodachi Life. What am I getting myself into?
Buyers remorse E: More indepth answer is boring repetition is going to set in insanely fast due to how little content is in the game. Characters will repeat the same 3 lines forever ("A change of scenery is always nice") and events that happen are mildly amusing at best to just stupid. Once the novelty of seeing two mii's that vaguely resemble whoever interact in a goofy way you'll notice how empty everything is. It's dreadful.
Bought Tomodachi Life. What am I getting myself into?
Prob more worth than Fates
I get that feeling with all of my game purchases.
Editted it to be a bit more helpful(?) Depending on how much you spent I suggest just getting something else. Fates comes out tomorrow and is being regarded as the best of the series, Paper Jam's out if you don't have that and it's pretty good. There's a lot better you can do. E: It's kind of harsh but if you want suggestions go ahead and ask. Anything is better then TL
Fates Special Edition is UP FROM BEST BUY VIA EBAY, MSRP + FREE SHIP: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fire-Emblem-Fates-Special-Edition-Nintendo-3DS-/322012782169 GO GO GO [editline]asdfasfd[/editline] And it's dead. It says they sold 1,999 copies, but I wonder how many of those will be canceled (if not all of them, lol).
Editted it to be a bit more helpful(?) Depending on how much you spent I suggest just getting something else.
That's a fucking lie
No it's not? Like dude please stop shitposting. Conquests maps have been getting hailed as fantastic in design for a good long period of time and it's been largely agreed that the map altering is fresh as hell. Like Birthright's getting it's fair share of praise too because even though it's more open it's not just wide open fields like awakening and all of the new classes are extremely fun to use. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] Active example (Borrowed from SA) The pots in this stage all contain status effects from buffs to debuffs, healing to damage, whatever, hell some of them can even freeze nearby units for a turn. The thing about them is they box you in, at any time though you can say fuck it and use your map skill to break all of them at once but doing so lets all the enemies pour in and beat the hell out of you. As a result it's better to use archers and whatnot to plan ahead and make the best route possible- and on top of this you have a 16-turn limit to clear the stage meaning you can just sit back and do nothing. Awakening had nothing like for comparison. Gone are fog of war missions, and instead there's just a lot of creative fun levels. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] Piling it on further Lunatic is massively overhauled to be a challenge instead of a cheating mess like Awakening. Instead of actually hacked weapons on enemy units it's the same stuff as Hard, just with shuffled enemies with a few more spread out. There's no more busted enemy only skills, everything is fair- just really difficult. It's another thing that's been universally praised.
This guy disagrees. [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27431030/site%20materials/forum/1455841853757.webm[/vid]
I think that's Jon MadN so I'm not sure if it counts :v:
From a game play standpoint, its a step up from awakening. Sort of. Hoshido is easier than awakening was, but its plot is probably the best of the 3 routes. The Nohr plot is probably one of the worst FE plots I've ever seen, I mean I know FE isn't exactly known for its story telling, but its pretty bad. Its easily the most challenging of the 3, but some of the combos they throw at you can get pretty BS. The Invisible route is pretty stale on the plot as well, but game play wise its a step up from hoshido. The game really has too many issues as a whole package for me to call it the best, The choice being decided by purchase, The extreme bias towards the Hoshido side, the localization issues and forced memes, obviously. Shoehorning in the kids from awakening again for no real reason. As a whole game, I'd still say Path of Radiance is a better experience. Not that fates is bad or anything, you're pretty much just forced to pick between Plot or Gameplay with the routes, which I'm not a huge fan of.
To be fair, none of the Fire Emblem plots have really been groundbreaking (at least from the one's I've played) E: You kinda said that woops
The choice being decided by purchase
I really don't understand why they didn't make the combined, complete version of the game more readily available. It didn't have to be exclusive to a big special edition box which they could only produce five copies of. Having to make your path decision before you even start the game totally shatters the impact of the choice. It's $80 either way, so an $80 standard edition of the complete game card would've been a viable version to produce, I think. The Special Edition (which really doesn't have all that much to it other than the combined version of the game) is extremely popular and hard to find as it is, and I know most of my friends who want it just want it for the combined version. At the least, they could've made a $60 version that had Birthright and Conquest on it so you at least have the major choice in the game itself. I think it would've sold well enough to warrant it. Produce it in limited quantities, but not as limited as the current Special Edition. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] Speaking of which, Amazon is taking orders for the Special Edition again: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018WFSX0S It was "backordered" a few minutes ago, but has now changed to "ships within 2 to 3 weeks". [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] Aaaand it's gone already.
In a perfect world you'd play the first 6 chapters then it would pop up and ask you which version you wanted to purchase to continue.
In a perfect world you'd play the first 6 chapters then it would pop up and ask you which version you wanted to purchase to continue.
In a perfect world all 3 versions would be in the game by default.
In a perfect world you'd play the first 6 chapters then it would pop up and ask you which version you wanted to purchase to continue.
In a perfect world it would have just been a 60 dollar release, you'd get to make your decision at the split point, and for NG+ you'd have the ability to get into the third route.
In a perfect world it would have just been a 60 dollar release, you'd get to make your decision at the split point, and for NG+ you'd have the ability to get into the third route.
Third route should be locked behind some choices you have to do in the other two routes sorta like Radiant Dawn
In a perfect world all 3 versions would be in the game by default.
Maybe if the price was higher then $40 I could understand that a bit more. As is all 3 are the size of awakening apiece so I can easily understand the whole different version things. E: I mean if they wanted to sell it all in one cart that would be rad but I understand why it's a split thing and they're like that.
If it was $50 or $60 they could easily justify essentially two-three games in one. This whole 'using Birthright for newbies and Conquest for hardcore players' shit was a dumb reason for doubling down on cash flow from day one, combined with the third route to appeal to people's urge for a best ending.
I spent $20 for a used copy. My next 3DS game is probably Hyrule Warriors, but other than that, Fire Emblem isn't for me and I heard that Paper Jam is a bit mediocre.
Paper Jam's a game that I'm warming up more on the longer I let it digest, it's only real problems are the lack of enemy variety (It's usually just Goomba and Paper Goomba for a area, or Koopa and Paper Koopa (and some cheep cheeps I guess too) for another) and the fact there's not a greater story outside saving the princess. The gameplay itself though is probably the best the series has to offer with the bosses for sure being the best for the most part. Also while the plot of the game is dull "lets get to bowsers castle and save peach" the actual writing is outstanding and saves the entire thing. I think literally every single character that shows up benefits from this game existing because it does such a good job at making each one of them feel like actual characters instead of blank slates. I'd really suggest picking it up at some point, it's super good. (Also if you're getting HW:L make sure you have a N3DS due to how shit the OG3DS version is) [editline]19th February 2016[/editline]
If it was $50 or $60 they could easily justify essentially two-three games in one. If you play it straight it's still fairly difficult game. Conquest is mainly hard because you're on a tighter budget and can't stop to beef yourself up. Otherwise yeah I'd say it's a rare case of a price hike being understandable. It does feel a bit odd to think that if you buy one version a DLC menu will pop up in the story. I appreciate that it discounts the other side though. One thing I'm not sure about though, if you take advantage of the discount to unlock the other path do you have to download the whole other path or are you just buying a unlock key? With how huge the game is block wise I certainly hope it's not the last one.
