Same here, I bought the original unit years ago and that was it. I also just picked up Alpha Sapphire. It has been at least three years since I've played any Pokémon games, so I figured that would be a nice way to get back into it. At least it has a lot of monsters that I still recognize.
I just got to HR3 online, though I'm out of LR offline (though I haven't done much with it yet). I'll have my friendcode later. Woke up and found out my mother got me a New 3DS XL at some point. Happy birthday me.

I've got a few other Nintendo handhelds around here somewhere, my original GB / GBP / GBC / GBA. Once I bought the original DS I sort of moved away from handheld gaming for a while. Hence the lack of any DS updates in between the original model and my new XL. Feels nice to get back into it after such a long time.
"oh how bad could the changes to the zora swimming be"
WHY
WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS
WHY WOULD YOU LOCK THE BEST SWIMMING IN ANY GAME TO THE MAGIC METER
There's absolutely no logical reason for this, there is no reason for a downgrade like this. There's no defending this at all, "oh you can just get chateau romani", why the fuck should I have to go out of my way to do a sidequest to get something to merely allow me to half-regain the abilty that I could do without that bullshit in the first place? And the whirring and screen effects are going to get really annoying really quickly.
God, what an awful change. You can't defend this shit, you can only try to make excuses that will never excuse the fact that it's blatantly inferior. I can't fathom the reasoning for this at all.
I wouldn't be as upset if it wasn't the best part of getting Zora Link.
And the way they changed the kick at the end of his combo and his jump attacks sucks too. Nowhere near as satisfying to use.
[editline]22nd February 2015[/editline]
I don't care that I'm late to the party, this is an awful and unnecessary change that's the worst out of a bunch of unnecessary changes that range from minor at best and down to preferences at worst. But this is objectively a huge downgrade. For no fucking reason at all.

the changed swimming makes the water temple easier because now you can actually control link when you need to instead of constantly bumping in to shit
the changed swimming makes the water temple easier because now you can actually control link when you need to instead of constantly bumping in to shit
Then give me the choice between slow, controlled swimming, and the good swimming without it being limited to how much magic I have. Just letting me keep using it after I run out of magic would make this a complete non-issue.

I'm in the great bay temple right now and it isn't any fucking easier
I got a red New 3DS XL yesterday, and I must say it feels quite nice compared to my old, blue, normal-sized 3DS.
The system transfer was kind of tedious, though. I know Nintendo wants to get the message across, but the darn thing warned me a million different times that the transfer could go horribly wrong if I even looked at the 3DS funny.
Getting my 3DS replaced after a week :( There was some weird ghosting going on with the right hand side of the screen that wasn't there during the week, made the 3D horrible and blurry on that side of the screen and I couldn't fix it with calibrations or anything.

I think it was for consistency sake.
Wanna go fast? Use Magic. Goron uses it for extra damaging power and speed. Why not the Zora?
Plus, most players are no where near Chateau Romani when they obtain the Goron form. I see no one complaining about it's use of magic, neither then neither now. Instead, they gave you double magic. It's more then enough for the rest of the game.
In a game that demands so much magic, you'd think about running out. Fuck it, they gave you magic everywhere. I only ran out of magic twice and it was yesterday at the Stone Tower because fuck leaping out of the water. Once I did, I had no magic for the Light Arrow but I got a big jar in the other room right in front of the door. The other time was against Twinmold but only because I wasn't watching my meter. But he drops magic jars that refill half your meter. If you manage correctly, you will never run out.
You find magic everywhere. There is no point in complaining. Swimming has a nice pace now that allows you to explore. That's an important part of a Zelda game that Nintendo seems to get a grasp on lately once again and hopefully keeps it.
As for the roundhouse kick, it has a bigger hitbox. Another change for consistency since all of Zora Link attacks have a half circle motion to them so all looks fluid and nice.
And the axe kick is a lot better looking than the weird front flip looking one in the original. Both Goron and Zora got a better combat overhaul with less end lag. Zora's kick was awfully slow at the end.
And if you do run out of magic as a Zora, you can use bottles underwater. Pack up a green potion and pop you're good to go. They're are cheap and they give you a shit ton of bottles [sp]They even give you a 7th bottle from the Gorman Bros.[/sp]. Use 'em! The whole point of restarting cycles in the middle of a town, where you are near a bank and you have access to a 100 rupee chest, is to prepare before going into the wild.
[sp]They even give you a 7th bottle if you catch all the types of fish at the ponds[/sp].
Weird, I got my seventh bottle from [sp]Doing the Gorman Milk quest[/sp].

Oh shit, you're right. I'll fix that. I guess I had something else in mind. Sorry.
I even have the Prima Guide because I love the way they look and it's says it right off the bat. Talk about fucking up royally.

I have my Play It Loud Game Boy, Game Gear and GBA laying around somewhere, but these days I just use my 3DS and emulate my other handhelds on my GCW-Zero because swapping AA batteries only goes so far until the Game Gear drains them after a long session of Sonic Triple Trouble.
Okay this is odd, so themes for the 3ds arent bound to account? I bought a new SD card today and i was able to redownload all my digital games just fine, but the majoras mask gold theme i bought a few days ago just says i gotta rebuy it?

Yeah you are right, i can't believe i missed that. On the bottom of theme shop is a purchased themes button, i found it there and was able to download it again. Thank you.

It's like one of those little keyboard mouse numb things, it isn't meant to actually move.
It would be really cool to have a new zleda game on the 3ds using the oot/mm engine.
I ordered those posters off of Club Nintendo two weeks ago.

Took four weeks for me to get my Pikmin Keychain, trust me, it just takes a loooooong while.
I'm in some desperate need of help, guys.
So after I got a New 3DS, I immediately did a system transfer from my old 3DS to my New (New) 3DS.
However none of my data from my E-Shop (DLC, Saves, ect) are there, even after I re-downloaded them.
I'd really hate to think I just lost 500 hours or so of play time...
Help?
I'm guessing you're using a different SD card on your N3DS?
Try copying the "Nintendo 3DS" folder from your old SD to the N3DS MSD.
By what means? I already did that by copy/pasting my old SD data onto my N3DS MSD via my PC.
I believe you lose you save data if you do a Transfer by PC. I did my transfer to my New 3DS with Local Wi-Fi and have all of my Save Data, Restore Points in VC games, ect. so I'm not sure on that.
Do the transfer from SD to MicroSD BEFORE you start the data transfer between the two systems.
Verify the MicroSD works in your old 3DS (via an adapter, frequently sold with MicroSD cards) and THEN start system transfer. If you move the data to another card after being prompted to remove it and put it in the new system, you WILL lose your saves.

> Power down old 3DS, remove SD card, put in PC
> Copy data to PC, remove SD card and insert MicroSD card inside adapter
> Copy data to MicroSD card inside adapter and remove it
> Insert the MicroSD card inside adapter into your 3DS
> Verify everything still works, and begin system transfer
> When prompted, remove MicroSD card inside adapter from old 3DS
> Remove the MicroSD card from the adapter, place it inside your n3DS
This is the only way to keep all of your data.

Well, that settels that. I did the data transfer first.
Fuck, this sucks. No other option but to delete and forget.
As a last resort, contact Nintendo. They might be able to fix the checksum failures that are causing the saves to not be recognized, hopefully.
You'd have to send them your new system and MicroSD though, if they're even able to help.
You find magic everywhere. There is no point in complaining.
You know where I don't find magic jars? In the water. You know what I have to do to continue swimming? Constantly stop and look for magic. You know what I didn't have to do in the original game? Stop and look for magic because I wanted to have fun and swim around for more than twenty seconds.
And here's the thing about all defences of it: they're excuses. Not justifications, excuses. You can go "it's not that much worse" but at the end of the day it's still worse and it's not going to stop being worse. I can't stand one of my favourite things about the game being blatantly ruined for no logical reason.
The Goron is an awful example because while the spike ball is faster and does damage, your roll is already extremely fast and a completely incomparable example.
And this part is completely preferences but I prefered the slower kick because it had more reach and while it was slower it had a larger window of damage and felt unique and satisfying to use, while the new combo might as well be a generic sword combo. Likewise Goron's slow attacks with a wide window of damage were more interesting than the quick one-two punch.
