Nintendo teaming up with a smart phone game company in japan to start making smartphone games, new product by the codename "nx" news coming in 2016. I believe it's probably a proper 3ds successor.
I don't believe it is- it's a device that's "to bridge the smartphone market with the handheld market," so it might be an imbetweener. Worst case scenario, it'll be the DS to the GBA where it'll start out while the 3DS is still running, but will continue going once the 3DS ends.
The amount of people thinking they'll be getting 3DS level platformers and action games is staggering.
They will be what Pokemon Shuffle is to Pokemon; same IP, radically different game entirely. They will be genres that actually work well on touchscreens, designed primarily for phones. Nintendo isn't stupid or unfaithful to its console customers.

It's why they said no ports upfront. They're not going to make ports of games that wouldn't work on mobile, that would be a disaster.
Iwata put it as marketing to the actual console games with some reward system to replace Club Nintendo.
I think its a console that will bridge handheld gaming and console gaming.
Project NX is far too early to be a successor to either the WiiU or the (n)3DS, people assuming it's either and creating mass hysteria need to calm the fuck down and actually read the interview. It's stated quite clearly that it will be a "new concept", rather than a replacement for an existing one.
Im not saying they will replace either but i think its a device thing that will connect them somehow.

I know, it wasn't directed at you specifically. There are just a lot of people doing the usual "Nintendo is doomed" dance elsewhere and it's driving me up a wall how uninformed they all are. Even moreso than usual this time.
They said no ports but Kirby Canvas/Rainbow Curse would work great on a phone, maybe even Rhythm Heaven too
Maybe a new Pokemon Snap on mobile?
I wouldn't mind a Pokemon Ranger game on mobile. Using my finger would be better than slashing the shit out of my touchscreen.

I can imagine getting to invested and snapping my finger on my phone trying to catch Psyduck.
Australia's rating board already leaked Pokemon Rumble World. and supposedly Nintendo DeNA might replace Club Nintendo. Korea is having a direct on Thursday...might not be worldwide, but considering the isolated Market; it's probably stuff that's aleady came out.
With that said, Nintendo adopting DeNA might just be so that they could have a more robust cross-platform system. like maybe you could primarily buy mobile games, but you could play them on a 3DS or Wii U. might be too competitive if it's a platform like Google play, Apple market or Amazon Play..
An interesting thing about Rumble World is that it mentions online interaction. it's a wonder how they'll expand it now when they've got 3D models since Pokemon Ranch and the Miis looked like robots. it also says Multiplatform, so maybe they'll use Amiibos to unlock random Pokemon/Pokedollars or expand the Smash Bros series with Greninja/Jigglypuff....like an African retailer mentioned with Splatoon Amiibos for the end of May. which itself would be more like Q2 2015 which is the middle of the 2nd part of a Fiscal year, so they're probably planning to reveal something large for Thursday if everyone gets a Direct.
Definitely needs something to pick up the slack, don't think Yarn Yoshi has a release date yet, and Star Fox U has a tenative date, and Kirby was revealed and released...
EDIT: Dare i suggest something either like: Crossbuy Pokemon Rumble World, either a microtranaction-ruined sequel. or something like Lucario being packed with the physical 3DS version and Charizard packed with the Wii U version?

Perhaps the Nintendo NX uses that donut-shaped screen they recently patented?
Picked up my order for the MM N3DSXL. Should I upgrade the memory card or will 4GB be fine for me? I only have FE, X and Y, OR, MM, and soon MH4U.

Upgrade. Better to just get it out of the way now that way you don't juggle things potentially later.

I believe there was a SH article posted about this back in December of last year. Some thought it may be for that whole "Healthy Wellness" or whatever Nintendo's health theme is, but this whole NX thing opens up some possibilities.
i just bought a 16gig micro sd off ebay
jb hi fi stock them too, but for way more expensive
msy is the go to for tech supplies if you're in Australia, you won't find lower prices with reliable service anywhere else.
