And again, lumping everything together would increase production time before release, space needed for the game, and the price of the game. MK8 with all that stuff could've been $80 and taken 15 months longer. Would you still buy that?
There are so many idealists who want all of the perks with none of the downsides, and not for the developers - the people making it - but for themselves, because they don't like paying for things. And not even things that were intended to be there from the start, things that those developers made to keep players from getting bored and moving on, because they give a damn about the game they made and want to see it live longer.
New Leaf is comfy as fuck. My little sister and I have been playing together. She gave me some money and special nintendo items to start me off.
I know Awakening was the first major DLC in a Nintendo game, but this is taking things to the logical extreme of the entire alternate story path being versions you can buy as DLC, plus a third story path that will probably be the 'true end' (or 'fuck everything up' end).
I really do hope the US version packages everything together, because this sounds like a dumb and messy idea trying to capitalize on the different versions of Pokemon yet again. When it comes to strategy games and story like Fire Emblem, I don't think anyone wants the routes to be sold separately whatsoever.
We don't know the full deal yet. It's also likely that the two paths are massive on their own and if you're already set on only playing one route (Honestly with how polarizing the two routes are, there are bound to be people who only care for one) then it may be cheaper for you to just buy the single route
I don't think we know the price of the single path game yet, only how much the DLC costs. The digital one includes both paths anyway.

Is this a new Rhythm Heaven game, or a mix of old minigames?
Is this a new Rhythm Heaven game, or a mix of old minigames?
it has all(?) of the games from the previous iterations. I forget if there's new games or not.
"That's just how games are now" is the worst excuse for DLC. Doesn't change that the industry is shit when it comes to handling dlc.
And of course I don't like paying for things, I'm a damn consumer. That's my role in the market. Do you like spending money?
I wouldn't even call myself an idealist, I don't mind acceptable dlc. But it's pretty easy to cross the line. Buying 15 dollar figurines to unlock the full potential of a 40 dollar game is past that line. It's cool they're moving to cards, which you'll need a card reader for if you're one of the poor saps like me that have the obsolete 3ds model.
I understand "that should've been in the base game" sounds arbitrary but there are some things that genuinely should have and it just doesn't make sense (but it does make cents) to have it as dlc and not some unlockable. Unlockables are the shit!
It's not an excuse, DLC has a lot of negative connotations to it but it's a lot more flexible than expansion packs or mini sequels.
You're acting like the amiibos unlock crucial parts of the game, most of the time they add a bonus mode, guest characters or costumes. You also forget you're paying for the actual amiibo itself.
You make a lot of arguments but with no solid examples. The Smash DLC is 100% fine.
My main issue with Nintendo is the frailness of their account system. lose the console/handheld without logging insurance/police reports with photos of the ID number if in case of theft. and you'll probably lose access to your stuff and account. the case with Amiibo wouldn't look so major if there was just more games that could utilize them.
Like most of them unlocks Mii suits for Mario Kart 8, but their use is scattered across the place other than random usage like in Hyrule Warriors. I would consider Mario Party 10 to be a secondary title for Amiibo since it has a common ground...but not so much for the Toad Amiibo itself which is just used for Captain Toad. as of writing; Pac-Man is one of the least utilized Amiibos due to his only major uses being in games that Namco produces. though the highpoint is just for the Mario-related characters for Smash and Mario Party 10...so the mileage is pretty low.
already been said; but Amiibos are nice display pieces, especially for franchises which might not see substantial merch outside of Japan like Earthbound, F-Zero...or even Mr Game & Watch!. The main push for Amiibo is Smash Bros 4. the sub-series has popularity that rivals Mario Kart's and has sales figures similar to Mario Party despite being only 1 game per console/handheld vs Mario Party's...11? 12? 14?. would feel like the most opportunistic to show off its features. Wikipedia says read-only for all the Amiibos for Captain Toad. what's that about? do they just give powerups or is there 8-bit challenges for all the amiibos?
I wouldn't mind if they revamped up Nintendo Land, or even allowed the player to scan amiibos to let them wander the main menu. would feel a bit more flashy to an extent. if they're eventually going to hit size/update bottlenecks with Smash and Mario Kart. may have happened already to Hyrule Warriors, barring Ganondorf's Amiibo bonuses and bugfixes maybe.

That's as shallow a way of rewording what I said as "I want 200% for the price of 100%" is for you.
[editline]2nd April 2015[/editline]
Like, I'm kinda surprised just how much cherrypicking is going on right now. You've brought up amiibo twice after someone explained to you they don't unlock major content, and you're still going on about them like they're Nintendo's main venue for this stuff.
In regards to releasing content later, it's content that never would have happened if they didn't have that option. Did they delay Melee to add Snake like Kojima wanted at the last minute? Nope, they had a release date to keep, and instead waited seven years to put him in the next game. We're in an era where that's no longer an issue, and an idea someone gets late in development can finally make it into a game without adding months to its term. If "that's just how games are now," well, good. Now you don't have to wait for the next game just to get the one thing you wanted.
Actually, this is wrong. In Japan, it is 2 versions.

And now with the ballot system, we've got even better chances of seeing characters we want without hoping for another Smash
At this point I may as well just wait for the "complete edition!" of any game I want to buy.
I'm saying I don't want to be nickle and dimed to death. I don't care if it's "optional" if I'm paying full price I expect the entire game. Shit like costumes that are avaliable on release day or whatever amiibos unlock really I consider something that should be a part of the game. Minor, yea, but does that really matter?
I was actually using Starcraft and WoW as examples of good DLC! But I didn't feel like going into detail on this Ipod keyboard. Pretty much if there is dlc, it shouldn't be nickle and diming shit. Especially shoulsn't be stuff like the whole "buy 3ds and wiiu version to unlock mewtwo!"-tier stuff.
This is a amazingly, outstandingly selfish point of view btw.
If you buy a game and they make DLC for it literally 6 months later to a year later and it's actually completely new stuff with time and effort put into it that means it's super deserving of a price tag. You do not deserve it for free dude.
"Oh lame, they gave people who bought the game early a free game, a shit ton of content and they're making insanely high quality stuff a year later AND giving a free update for a new difficulty, talk about ripping off the customers!"

No you don't get it, if I buy the game I don't care if they keep working and have employee's that need to be paid I deserve it for free because I gave them 60 a full year ago.
What no I'm not being entitled shut up.
What game is he talking about that has locked away content only amiibo can unlock?
Do you know what time it is?

I've had Xenoblade since April 1st thanks to pre-ordering and shipping early. I've been feeling it quite a bit, getting into the battle system and digging the whole 'Monado shows visions' as a dual mechanic/plot device (aka SOMETHING WORKING THE SAME WAY IN BOTH HOLY SHIT NO MORE "WHY CAN'T THEY JUST HEAL THEM" bullshit). Shulk's shown about 10 times more emotional range then most JRPG heroes in their entire game in the first 20 hours of his own.

This hugely deflates my hype for the game.
The whole Pokémon scheme of having two skews of the same game on the same system is gross.

Costumes in Mario Kart I guess?
Amiibo Party to if that counts but it's in the name so why are you shocked.
Mario Kart - Costumes
Hyrule Warriors - Spinners + Random Unlocks
Smash Bros - Learning AI
Captain Toad - Bonus Levels
Rainbow Curse - Perma upgrades
I do also know there is stuff in Splatoon and S.T.E.A.M but I cannot remember what it is.

Only half of those is true.
Mario Kart - Costumes
HW - Spinner and random stuff like 1 rupee or a material
Smash Bros - AI buddy
Captain Toad - Adds a pixel toad to already existing levels as a kinda hide n seek thing
Rainbow Curse - You get a powerup for a single level and if you die it's gone. Also you can only scan it once a day.
Splatoon - Gives you missions that unlock exclusive cosmetics
S.T.E.A.M - Unlocks Fire Emblem characters to play with
I'm not talking about stuff that comes later, I'm talking about stuff that's already there at release.

I haven't heard anything. Maybe you're thinking of the concept art Next Level Games pitched to Nintendo for a 2D Metroid game?

I mean there's this and some other sources.. I don't know. I'm not putting hopes up or anything but seems like there's definitely something in the works
thought the only remnants was Next Level Games having art. but was forced to work on Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon.
