is new leaf as good as the original on the gamecube?
is new leaf as good as the original on the gamecube?
Way better. One thing that pisses me off though, is the fact that when a villager moves in, their placement is completely random. Theoretically, the town can become nearly completely barren of trees and flowers given enough villagers move in/out over a very long period of time, because they just bulldoze anything in their path.
Hopefully, this gets addressed in the rumored Wii U version. BTW, maybe they'll tease it to us at E3?

Edit: Thonky.com has a super detailed guide on AC:NL, but the basic information is that you can be rewarded for everything. Shaking trees, buying items, sending letters, planting fruit, everything is part of some larger reward.
is new leaf as good as the original on the gamecube?
New Leaf just has so much more content, and not a lot to hate. It's the definitive AC for me. Only complaint is that I don't get to hear the amazing theme for the GC version outside of the Forest Life Track KK plays, which isn't the same.

And the town size is absolutely tiny compared to the gamecube version, coming in at 20 acres instead of 30. The only game with less space was Wild World. I also hate the rotating world style, I prefer the grid system much more, but that doesn't really detract from the experience for me.
Bought ocarina of time on eBay and minutes later I get this: [T]http://puu.sh/hR1iV.jpg[/t] Thank god the seller noticed before I got it :v:
Shit, looks like I gotta get back into the world of Animal Crossing I remember playing the gamecube one at my friends house back when it first came out we clocked so many hours it's crazy
[T]http://i.imgur.com/OHE8etb.png[/T] These new 3DS themes from the European club Nintendo are pretty cool, I got the blue Nintendo history one. You can buy them for 500 stars each. [editline]18th May 2015[/editline] Also it gives the icons a really cool cartridge look [T]http://i.cubeupload.com/8J6dBu.jpg[/T]
is new leaf as good as the original on the gamecube?
Everything except the writing is better than the Gamecube game. Not that the writing in NL is bad, it's still great, but it's a bit simpler than WW and the original IMO (I haven't played the one for Wii so I don't know how that one is). [editline]18th May 2015[/editline] Can Wii U players using Virtual Console play local multiplayer Mario Kart DS with people playing on actual DS systems?
I think the writing is just as good, it's just the personalities of the villagers as a whole are watered down. Cranky villagers are just normal, Snooty villagers instead of telling you to kill yourself if you piss them off they just kinda go "eh" and nothing else. The personality types just aren't as interesting as older games.
I also think that the quotes that you get when you catch fish and bugs aren't as good as the older ones. Also the commentary on your donations being hidden away further in the musuem is a shame, Blathers went from being my favourite NPC to being my least favourite of the special NPCs.

I mean, they are pretty much the same beyond their appearance and maybe my memory of the previous AC games is just really poor, but within a few months of knowing a villager their dialogue and any villagers who share the same personality types you begin to pick up on how little in the way of dialogue there is. Might just be me though, since I played ACNL non-stop for a year and a half.
Would it be wise to grab a New 3ds now or wait till e3, in case the announce anything else?
I grabbed one yesterday and all I can say is "wow". The quicker loading times are great and the little right nub is better than I expected. Kinda wish they had blue as an optional color though.

In NL, just about every line has a close match with other personality lines. It makes every personality seem so similar :(

Just got NL, looks promising, its just that there isn't a whole lot to do yet. Which isn't helped by the fact that its 11 PM. :v: Off topic from AC, I wish there were more racing games for the 3DS. The DS barely had any that were worth playing, but I thought that might be just because of its limited 3D capabilities, as they were pretty crude. But apparently very few making any for the 3DS either. Its pretty much Mario Kart, and that's it. Too bad EA and Criterion aren't really interested in the Burnout series anymore. If they ported Burnout 3 (or similar) to the 3DS, I would buy it instantaneously.

It runs at what seems like 10-15fps and controls badly as a result
Are we...uhh...allowed to discuss R4 cards in here or is that a no no?
Are we...uhh...allowed to discuss R4 cards in here or is that a no no?
There's nothing wrong with playing your backups.
There's nothing wrong with playing your backups.
Well. I'm currently trying to find a place to purchase an R4. However finding a site that seems trustworthy to purchase from is proving...difficult.
Well. I'm currently trying to find a place to purchase an R4. However finding a site that seems trustworthy to purchase from is proving...difficult.
Your going to have to buy from some sketchy looking sites, but as long as you stick to ones that are recommended, you'll probably be fine. Only thing to worry about is your bank declining the purchase because they are often processed from China. :v: Every time I buy from one of these sites, I get a call from Wells Fargo within 10 minutes. Like clockwork. [editline]19th May 2015[/editline] I keep trying to hunt for new stuff to put in the museum in AC:NL. Help
My only gripe with http://www.nds-card.com/ is that postage is 7-35 days for Tracked and 10-50 for regular postage. I'll keep venturing around. Just trying to find one that has a bit faster postage times. Shall I assume that http://www.r43dsworld.co.uk/ is not a trustworthy site? I see some reviews around and about when googling the website some are good, some are bad. I'll keep venturing around. Anymore recommendations would be fantastic.
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/05/19/nintendo-world-championships-2015-will-use-ultimate-nes-remix/
After 15 years, the Nintendo World Championships tournament is returning this year on June 14th, and this morning Nintendo of America shared further details on the competition and what games will be involved. The qualifying competition will feature the Championship mode of Ultimate NES Remix for the Nintendo 3DS. In this mode, players will need to take on a series of three score-based challenges in Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Dr. Mario. The qualifiers will take place at 8 Best Buy locations, and games and systems will be provided at each location, although the Ultimate NES Remix game is already available for anyone that wants to start practicing early. The top scorer from each of the eight qualifiers will move on to the final event in Los Angeles, which will be a multi-round competition featuring a variety of Nintendo games. Also, an additional eight competitors selected by Nintendo will compete in the Nintendo World Championships as well, but Nintendo have not revealed who these people are and just how they will be selected. The qualifying events will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time at Best Buy stores
And the eight locations in the US
1717 Harrison St. San Francisco, CA 3675 Pacific Coast Highway Torrance, CA 10760 NW 17th St. Miami, FL 900 E.
Are we...uhh...allowed to discuss R4 cards in here or is that a no no?
Since we are on this topic anyway, Have any of your guys used an R4i Gold with a new 3ds? Does the homebrew work fine?
I know the 3DS is region-locked (fuck), but it it region locked only against 3DS and DSi software, and not DS games? Would I be able to play foreign DS games on my 3DS?
DS is region free afaik, so you can play them any on any 3DS. Mind you some games with DSi exclusive content do not work on 3DS, such as Fire Emblem: Shin Monsho no Nazo. [editline]20th May 2015[/editline] Really enjoying Codename Steam. It's a got a very weird... imprecise feel to it, in a good way. This isn't Advance Wars or Fire Emblem where you Attack Twice for 7 Damage with 95% Hit Rate and 5% Crit Rate, where the numbers are the same and you always know what you're dealing with. It isn't Take Your Turn They Take Theirs repeat. You'll be abusing tutorial monitors for move movement or considering when to use the 'save', 'save and restore' 'save and restore all' function on the mid-map savepoints that cost precious medals but feel so so good to use. You'll miss some shots because of swaying 3d enemies but then hit others you didn't even know were possible.
