I'm thinking we should do it on the 3DS Steam Group if there isn't a Wii U Steam group.

Nah it just takes a long time to translate a game like this. I think it'll be released eventually.

If only region locks weren't a thing. I'd be fine with buying a japanese game like this.

I thought Nintendo said they weren't going to translate it.
Is there really that much you need to translate for a game like this? It's not exactly text-driven.
Yeah, there's a bunch of dialogue spoken by the characters in minigames that needs to be translated, also translating songs and not having them come out terrible is a big deal. They did a great job with some of the songs in RT3, they actually sounded like good songs written in English even though they weren't.
I thought Nintendo said they weren't going to translate it.
when did they say that?
when did they say that?
I was just going off memory.
I looked it up to be sure, Nintendo hasn't said anything about an international release.
I think the thing is most of the Japanese game is probably recycled/remastered assets. They have decent recordings of every song from soundtrack albums, then they just redraw the older games and that's most of the content there.
But there aren't English etc recordings for the GBA game and what Nintendo has on file from making the DS/Wii translations might not be usable for the 3DS one. So they have to do a lot more work to localize it in comparison to how much work it is to make the game.
Is this game gonna get a wubadubadub
What is up with my 3DS? Downloaded an update, went into the shop to browse for games, then suddenly no connection found. Will not connect to the network at all anymore. I tried forgetting and readding the network and it's convinced that the security key is wrong (I tested it on my phone and that worked as well.)
Like it was just working 15 minutes ago and now it just stopped. It sees other networks in the area and my phone still works so I'm ruling out hardware problems on DS or router side.

A few reboots finally kicked it into gear. Whatevs
So is the New 3DS a worthwhile upgrade over the old 3DSXL? I've been thinking of purchasing one just to get BoI but I'm not sure if it's exactly worth it for one game.

The loading times are a bit faster and the IPS screen and proper working 3D are nice. C stick works, but I only have one game that uses it. I think those are the biggest differences. However my only knowledge on the old 3DS was when I played my friend's, so I don't know what else changed.
I bought myself a New 3DS for my birthday, and I quite like it. I was surprised, since I've never had a handheld Nintendo console - or any Nintendo consoles at all, really. No Gameboy, no original DS, no NES or SNES. I got to borrow my uncles SNES a few times but never had anything myself. Any Nintendo-games I've played have been old and on emulators.
So I've been biased and bitter all these years and figured handhelds were pointless since you can just use your phone. But I saw a good deal on one and my friend was there insisting how good it was, so I caved in.
And I'm not disappointed. I only have one game so far, Link Between Worlds, but I'm really enjoying it. Color me converted.
I need to find more games though. Maybe Xenoblade Chronicles, that looks good.

You're in for a good ride.
Does anyone know how bad the upscaling actually is with 3ds games on the XL ones? I'm debating wether or not I should get a normal one and ditch the XL because of how blurry it looks.

I moved from the original 3DS to the New XL, and I'm not going back.
You can see so many details that are impossible to appreciate in a normal size 3DS.

As far as I know, the resolution is the same so there is no upscaling.

But that's the thing, it's the same resolution as the normal one but on a bigger screen, so...
It's not that bad. Might also avoid straining your eyes over a small screen.

I mean you notice the pixels. Its like 90 ppi. We've all been spoiled silly with modern high dpi smartphone displays. When I first opened my 3DS XL, it was particularly jarring since I went from a 1080p HTC M8 to the 400 x 320 display on the 3DS on the same size screen. I mean we have to remember, the 3DS hardware is using mid-level hardware from 2009-2010. When 320 x 400 was still considered pretty decent sized. And they can't improve GPU performance much without breaking backwards compatibility. And even if it upscaled to a high res, it wouldn't matter, since all non-polygon elements would just look blurry and ugly.
But since games are designed around that screen resolution and the 3DS really was never meant to be a graphical powerhouse, you just stop noticing it. Plus, the IPS display on the XL is a nice improvement.

Shame that this was the only Rhythm Heaven Fever minigame that didn't make it worldwide. They replaced it with a rather dull tempo game.
We're about to be blessed with another 3DS classic.

I'm on very little sleep so I redeemed my code for it even though i'll never use it, though the missus would get much more use out of it than I would and now I feel just terrible.
If someone else has a code they haven't used that'd also be amazing.
