Wait, the same person that voiced Vanille?
I'm unsure how I feel about this.
Did anyone else notice that when they fixed the Lion's roar's arm they actually changed the animation set

So, uh, is the magazine supposed to kinda float in the well for a moment?
Sometimes I wish my Bronco could support suppressors, if only I knew how to add em via mods
I'm still terrified one day I will get a Canadian heister and it'll be the worst stereotype
I love that jiros personality is Japanese
A Canadian heister on Overkill's hands is tame compared to a Brazilian Heister.

reminds me of the AK from PDTH but not as horrifying
gotta throw my mag around a bit instead of just shoving it right in

If someone manages to do animation replacements, I will literally make a long as fuck animation for the Lion's Roar, where you take the mag out and throw it, bring another one and flip it mid air before catching it, you'll throw the mag to your right hand and the gun to your left, once you catch both of them you insert the magazine in the gun, then you throw the gun back to your right hand and grab it, then you pull back the charging handle back, before throwing the gun in the air again to grab it by the grip and putting your other hand where its supposed to be, thus finishing the reload animation.
I love that jiros personality is Japanese
it is?
because I can't tell
I honestly think wasting the time and effort to get Japanese lines for Jiro was ridiculous. I doubt its accurate Japanese (most of the time in games, forigen languages are very broken) and even if it was, there is 0 subtitles or translation to my knowledge, so his entire personality is basically "???"
I mean shit, I love my japanese subs when I watch anime too too man but this is nuts.
Jiro is probably one of my least favorite heisters due to the amount of lost potential. They could have easily made him the "straight man" of the gang just like Wick, with a serious, professional sounding tone of voice, even the pager responses would be more "proper" than the other heisters. Even though you'd be able to make him wear ridiculous masks and stuff at least there'd be the comic relief in that. Not to mention the possibility of a heist that involves getting his son back that may never see the light of day?
I dunno, that would have been better than "OI TAZAYA GOT YOU MADAFACKA" every 10 seconds.

Isn't the person who does the voice for Jiro more than capable of speaking English too? It seems like the only reason they went with pure Japanese was probably because somebody at Overkill thought it would be a cute gimmick for the character. Either that, or they didn't want to pay for Japanese voice talent just to speak English. Either way, it ends up just being annoying more than half the time.
The optimistic side of me wants to believe Overkill won't forget Jiro's backstory for joining the crew, and they'll release follow-up content, and he'll gain some character-development that finally allows him to learn, and speak English during his time working as a career criminal with the Payday gang. But it seems more likely they'll forget, or they won't forget, but he'll still be the shrieking Japanese guy nobody can understand regardless of the follow-up.
And I'd just like to point out I find it hilarious that there is only one of the new characters that bothers to cover up their accented voice during pager response. I'm shocked that it's Bonnie of all people, she tries to tone down her accent during pager responses. But Hoxton, Clover, Dragan, Sokol, and especially Jiro don't seem to care they stand out to the person on the other end of the pager. Seems like Overkill half-assed it, it would have been cooler if they all did their best to do an impression of an American accent. They did it with Bonnie only, and just said "Fuck it" with everybody else.
If Jiro actually spoke any goddamn english, I'd play the shit out of him. I mean, his suit's cool, he's got sick tats.
I mean, Dragan and Clover are both non-american heisters with a lot of personality beyond just being foreign, so they ARE fucking capable of doing that shit.

Jiro's actor, Togo Igawa, lives in goddamn England. He was the first Japanese member of The Royal Shakespeare Company. So, yeah, he's super fucking capable of speaking English.
Idk guys, I get where you are coming from but I still really like Jiro's always speaking Japanese gimmick.

But the problem is that he doesn't even have subtitles and that his entire character is "gimmick".
Jiro's lines are in accurate Japanese, beyond concessions to clarity for enemy shoutouts.
Also, he didn't even get a tie-in heist to his story
Also, he didn't even get a tie-in heist to his story
Maybe when Overkill actually picks up his storyline again we'll get a save Jiro's son! heist.
that feel when the walking advertizement characters have more personality than a original character
after playing around with the AMCAR-16, i fucking love the thing
and I hope we get more payday 1 type of heists. there's something cool about them that feels like we're actually being criminals just barely getting out of police force. and they also weren't jump-the-shark "let's use a super laser drill to open up a giant gold plated vault"
it's more the feel of the heists than anything. I still think most of the payday 2 heists are fun.
this discussion shows up a lot but realistically none of the heisters have an ounce of personality the way any one in Left 4 Dead ever did
there's just too fucking many of them for them to really have a chance to speak and interact
we've got Dallas, who yells, Chains, who yells a lot, Wolf, who yells a lot but sometimes in swedish and Houston who has the distinction of not yelling, then Hoxton who says wankers
Honestly while I think it could be better, I really think that is just a very extreme way of putting it that completely spins it in one direction and ignores any positives we do have.
Wolf freaks out at certain enemy types, been too long and I don't play him but I believe cloakers and tasers he is very afraid of. All the characters do have their own twists on certain lines or player interactions. Hoxton berates Houston, I think Houston insults him (don't remember). Dragan tells hostages to think of meat-sandwiches, Houston is generally professional in his wording and mannerism. Chains is also fairly professional but has a bit of a cocky military side and a bit of an emotional panic when he goes down.
Bonnie is generally fairly professional, Clover is kind of cute and "bubbly" because she enjoys combat and makes her enjoyment of unique kills very obvious, she also shrieks in fear.
I really don't play this game much anymore and I really only play Chains but I could go on about the little lines and quirks people have. It could be much better but I think people simply want to focus on the pure negative of it.
Honestly the characters are a lot of little quirks that when you pay attention, quickly add up. They're not as deep as something like L4D but that is fine because this isn't L4D. Its not as story focused, its not as character focused, and its about a big group and not a small one.
Its not so much that I disagree with your point or desire to improve the story or character depth or interaction, its that I feel its been painted very negatively.
jacket is my personal favorite exclusively because of how different he is, but also my love for Hotline
I find all you ever hear them say is "SNIPERS DOWN" anyway so it doesn't matter too much

I honestly started playing Jacket just because he had some different threads as opposed to the other heisters. But than he kinda grew on me.

The thing with L4D is that the characters actually talk to each other, while PD2 heisters are kinda isolated and never interact.
I like Chains for him being able to act professional and crazy at the same time
It's also rather amusing how he speaks about himself in the third person a lot

In Payday: The Heist the crew had much more personality though, when Payday 2 launched they were oddly silent and it's only got worse with the addition of cutout stereotypes. What's even the point of introducing new characters when they lack character? The pager lines are a hoot but I'd take more lines for the current crew over more gimmicks any day.

The thing is that kind of interaction between 4 characters is easy enough (Plenty of examples out there), but imagine having to write and record dialogue between 13 (or whatever number we're up to) or so heisters.
Sure you could just write a single series of generic dialogue between 4 heisters and have every voice actor voice every line but you'd definitely lose any sense of character or group dynamic between them.

That doesn't mean they don't have to try though. The L4D characters have an ungodly amount of dialogues (look here for Coach alone). If each Payday 2 heister had even half that, it would be an amazing feat.
It just shows that Overkill doesn't want to invest in proper writing, but that seriously was already obvious for a while. I hope they'll get serious about it with Payday 3.

The writing isn't the problem. It's the cost of VA work.

I wouldn't think so, personally.
