Even before the safes the thread really wasn't the most active iirc, making multiple threads for different things would just slow the main thread down even more. Which isn't really what it needs. The only times this thread gets a bit more active is when a DLC is announced, a big update, crimefest or controversy happens then after a few days it goes back to being really slow.

The reason is that the single thread format creates an ADD effect where we don't have long discussion of the same topic because of pages and subject change. Look at /r/paydaytheheist. Shit, look at our own resident tf2 forum. Garry's changes and manifest are going to bring more people and there's gonna be more changes than just what's under the hood. Newpunch seems to be what people migrating sites such as Reddit want but Garry can actually backup his endeavors unlike Voat and other failed "it's like x but better" sites that died due to not being able to handle a site and it's traffic. Stuff just gets lost in the middle of somewhere, that's my main gripe with our thread. Also, it could be wishful thinking, but Payday series should get big someday. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of hype when Payday 3 will be revealed in a few years or so. Gotta be prepared for that.
Alright, I've been thinking about FP 2.0, here's my overall thoughts. Most megathreads will become their own subforums eventually, so I don't see why it's bad to have one more subforum out of 999. It's not like we're going to get spanked for it or something, it's just a subforum. What our own subforum will allow us to do: 1. Have stickies where Rooster could post discord links, for example, or stickies with general information, always at the top; 2. Keep various discussions going instead of talking about one subject, dropping it and talking about another one; 3. Preserve history. I've always wanted to reread our threads, our reactions to updates and all of that stuff. Shame that it's almost impossible to find a specific update discussion through hundreds of pages. Our new subforum could solve this issue easily, dedicating one thread for a specific update; 4. Set up a cool style with a lot of custom stuff like emotes or ratings, which is already almost done. I mean, you can stay in the boring general if you want, that's not up to me to decide but I'm all in for having our own subforum. It'll make discussions better.
Not only that, we could set-up group plays and achievement hunting easier, because you could post a new topic with a set date and time of playing. Also, with it becoming a reddit-like forum,we might be able to pull more people in (who knows, maybe even Almir will notice us).
This game has 5000 worldwide players if we're on a really good day, I doubt we need anything more than this thread
A nice thing about a megathread is even if there is a lull in a particular activity the thread itself doesn't get buried since it covers a wide range of topics. Change that to a specified format and you'll have a bunch of threads at once that later get buried for inactivity.

I suspect the average playercount to rise at least for a small while, once the update goes live today. The skill tree changes are pretty massive and I imagine a few people coming back to play again with how much it will change up the game.
