Actually I take that back. RDR is a classic that should be left untouched. Another Red Dead game would be cool but nothing so closely related to RDR. If a disappointing sequel came out it could tarnish the name of RDR.
Has Rockstar ever failed to deliver a game destined to be a classic? It's like they have some kind of control over it, or foresight into the future to design the games around.
Maybe they're in cahoots with Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos?
I remember how I played Gun for something like 12 hours a day when I was laid up in bed after a fairly minor operation for about a week or two, back around the time when it was released. I still have almost all of the locations and missions etched into my memory, and I and my friend (Who also played Gun a fair bit) always compare it to RDR. Some locations look almost exactly the same, too.
Actually, Gun felt like more of a predecessor to Red Dead Redemption than Red Dead Revolver did to me. Red Dead Revolver was great, but Gun just seems to have more in common with Redemption.
My disc is scratch up because my brother knocked my xbox over while he was playing and now the game won't start :(

Sadly, nothing for free roam. :smith:
Why is there a new thread? Did the old one lock?
I thought I'd seek out this thread because I recently picked up the game again. Trying to get to multiplayer rank 50 to unlock the last female character. Why? A gang member once shouted "You're nothing but a French whore!" and it made me want to play as one.
Where do I find snakes in singleplayer?
Red Dead redemption is set during the beginning of WW1 I'm pretty sure.
Red Dead redemption is set during the beginning of WW1 I'm pretty sure.
3 years before it.
Where do I find snakes in singleplayer?
They are quite common in Mexico, especially south of Chuparosa.
The biggest thing I hated about RDR are these 2 cutscenes:
The ending in Red Dead Redemption.
The Bigfoot cutscene in RDR: Undead Nightmare
[sp] Made me really sad. [/sp]
That list is kind of disappointing, I was hoping for more free roam locations.
I almost forgot what a fantastic game this was.
Is the mulitplayer in this still alive?
Is the mulitplayer in this still alive?
Going strong.
Been looking into Undead Nightmare on this game.. Just borrowed the game from my brother, although it was already beaten from when I had it a year ago. is undead nightmare really worth the ten dollars to buy? IMO it looks great but I thought lots of things were great, only to be disappointed..
I had a lot of fun with Undead Nightmare.
I actually bothered to beat the single player of it with 100%.
Also it was actually pretty funny, dark humour gets to me.
They are quite common in Mexico, especially south of Chuparosa.
I found the six snakes I needed at El Matadero in the end, but thanks anyway. Now I have the Expert Hunter outfit and the head looks like a ninja when paired with the bandana. Awesome.
Seeing as this thread is so inactive it will never end, coupled with a virtually unlimited post count, I figure I better give everybody a taste of what they missed out on.

Red Dead Redemption is an open-world Western adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and Rockstar North, released on May 18, 2010 (May 21 for the rest of the uncool world). Redemption is considered the spiritual successor and sequel to Rockstar's (Formerly Capcom's) Red Dead Revolver. Despite this, the game has little to no relation to the 2004 original. Redemption uses the same RAGE physics engine and Euphoria ragdoll animator of Rockstar's previous unrelated title, Grand Theft Auto IV.
Red Dead Redemption is currently only available for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
A PC port is extremely unlikely.
Both games share the same experiences, aside from two relatively small and useless PS3-exclusive items.

Red Dead Redemption takes place in the southern border states of 1911 America, in the middle of the "taming" of the Western American Frontier, also known as the Old West or Wild West.
John Marston is a partially reformed outlaw trying to start life anew. When federal agents threaten his family, Marston is sent across the country to bring the Wild West to justice. He must kill or capture his former gang members, or his family will pay the ultimate price. [sp]die[/sp]

The gameplay of Red Dead Redemption is unique, yet at its core very similar to the style of Rockstar's popular Grand Theft Auto series, namely the fourth installation. Though exploration is a main part of the story, gunplay lies at the heart of the game. There are numerous weapons a player can wield, from ball-and-cap Civil War-era revolvers to high powered, modern bolt-action rifles. Ammunition and other useful items can be acquired from stores across the landscape. Prices for items vary from settlement to settlement.
Of course, you can't just walk into a story and get guns for free (unless you want to), you need money. There are numerous ways to make money in the game. The most common way is through completing story missions, which assign amounts of cash depending on the difficulty and importance of the mission [sp]Herding cattle<Toppling the a corrupt government[/sp]. Players can also accept bounties to capture or kill escaped criminals, play games of chance such as poker or blackjack, or even search for above-ground buried treasure (Eyepatch not necessary). Hunting for animal pelts is another popular activity. There are many animals available to hunt ranging from boar, bears, wolves, coyotes, and numerous others.(read: not cougars)
Although there are many respectable ways to pile up your dosh, nobody bought a Western game to be a shining white knight. Players are unavoidably going to come into contact with the asscrack of the law, and in turn the shit-stained asshole, otherwise known as the bounty system. As players commit crimes, their bounty increases. Certain crimes raise the bounty more than others: murder, for instance, will cost you a higher bounty than stealing a horse. Players with high bounties will be tracked down by high-ranking officers and bounty hunters. Players can surrender themselves to law officers at which point they will enter jail, where they will be forced to pay their bounty and spend several days behind bars. If players cannot pay the bounty, they will be sent on a bounty hunter mission. If a player can get close enough to a law officer who is currently in pursuit of them, they can bribe the officer. This will stop all officers from chasing you and in most cases will eliminate your bounty, at the expense of your golden reputation. Players can also get rid of their bounty by going to telegraph offices and paying off their bounty piece by piece. Another option that can be used is to hand over a pardon letter, which eliminates all of a player’s bounty. Pardon letters are few and far between, though, so don't go throwing them around for your two dollar kidnapping prices.

Multiplayer in Red Dead Redemption consists of multiple game modes, and allows players to play *co-operatively or competitively through an online connection.
Red Dead Redemption multiplayer does not have a traditional "game lobby": instead, it starts out in Free Roam mode, a familiar term to most GTAIV players. In Free Roam, the entire singleplayer game area is open for exploration, with populated towns, settlements, and gang hideouts. There are also Hunting Grounds and other opportunities for the player to take advantage of. The law system is still active in MP, though with a large change: you cannot eliminate a bounty once you have earned it, and law officers will not detain you; it's shoot to kill. Getting a bounty of over one thousand dollars makes you a Public Enemy, and causes your location and bounty to be broadcast to all other players, who can hunt you down.
Players can establish parties with other players, called Posses, or choose to participate in various game modes via the in-game menu or various entry points around the game world. Game modes include point and objective based games like Grab the Bag (CTF), or simple deathmatch games (Shootouts). Each game begins with a Mexican Standoff, where all players grouped in a circle (in Gang matches, there are two sides and players face eachother). A notification will appear, after which all players must draw their guns and shoot down their opponents. The player or posse left standing earns extra points and has more time on the battlefield to collect weapons or items.
Redemption Multiplayer supports a basic experience system, where you can level up based on how much experience you've gained ($$$$$$). Experience can be gained by doing pretty much anything, from clearing out gang hideouts to hunting bears to shooting defenseless women in the back (hueh). Free Roam challenges can also be completed for extra XP, which entails things like "kill x amount of y" or "do x activity y amount of times". As experience and levels are gained, you can unlock loads of stuff like character models, titles, or different horses and weapons to use. There are fifty levels in Multiplayer, after which the player can pass into Legend and completely start over. (Prestige mode for codfags)

*
Rockstar has released several DLC for Red Dead Redemption, that appeal to pretty much every activity in the game.

In the first of Redemption's DLC's, players are grouped together in posses of up to four, and thrust into several different cooperative missions, each with their own objectives and gameplay techniques.

This DLC allows access to several new multiplayer areas based off currently avaliable Free Roam areas. Additionally, a new set of player models is added to the Outfitter, allowing players to relive the glory days of 2004 as eight of the main characters from Redemption's "prequel", Red Dead Revolver. As an added bonus, a Native American Tomahawk is thrown into the mix as a throwable weapon, closely resembling the Throwing Knife.

For players more privy to the activities of singleplayer, Horse Races, Poker, and Liar's Dice are added as multiplayer games. The DLC also adds the stars of Redemption as Outfitter player models.

In the days of pre-release, Rockstar offered three outfits as pre-order content, all of them with different traits and styles. A contest was held to decide the best, won by the Deadly Assassin outfit, which was given as a pre-order bonus. This DLC adds the losing outfits to the game, along with two new challenges and a mythical creature, the Jackalope, that players can hunt.

As a big old "fuck you" to pre-orderers, Rockstar has released this outfit as a DLC for less than half the preorder price. Also serves as a reminder that the game is pretty much dead. Bought it anyway.

Too hard to explain in one line, this DLC gets it's own section as it's nearly an entire game by itself.
**will update and revise with descriptive words/more concise writing
***todo: UN section, banner images for each category
****gameplay videos for each section, y/n decide later
And what a bitter taste it was.
I really like that, but the fade on John looks a bit crap to be honest.
Yeah maybe
So Undead Nightmare doesn't have free roam? Awwww :(

[editline]12th September 2011[/editline]
Stay tuned for the free DLC next week 13th.
Damn it, I think I'm gonna have to buy a new disc because the sound keeps cutting off for this game only.
Anyway, I hope they add free roam to undead nightmare at some point.
I hated Undead Overrun as when it entered sudden death, you would just blow the fuck up, I thought this was random until I learned it was the Retchers spitting explosive spit in sudden death in Undead Overrun.
I am glad R* is removing explosive spit in Undead Overrun when it enters sudden death.

GOTY Edition is just another nail in RDR's coffin.
I don't like how they always add characters that should already have been playable from the start.
The pack is out now and-
Wowzers.
Had hoped that they'd port it to PC by the time it made it to the GOTY phase. But it seems that, while LA Noire is going in that direction, RDR will be left behind in the dust. :smith:
I don't find any of these new playable characters interesting. I'll stick with Colonel Allende / Shep Thomas / Melissa Rose.
I wish they'd add singleplayer DLC.
I picked up my pre-order of this game on launch day and remember playing this during the hours I should have been studying for finals. To this day I still regularly play in possies of at least 4. Epic times. RDR has some of the more memorable glitches I've ever encountered too, like this random one I ran into a few weeks ago
