The Moon OST is the best music to play this game to and I will fight anyone that says otherwise. [editline]12th November 2012[/editline] Also Operation Revenge-Against-Alien-Scumbags is in effect. Earth's industrial sector has kicked into overdrive increasing the tonnage of shipyards and manufacturing missiles. The Terran Defence Fleet will NOT GO UNAVENGED [editline]12th November 2012[/editline] In other less Jingoistic news I've colonized my first world that isn't in the Sol solar system. A desert world with an almost breathable atmosphere and surface temperatures of roughly 53 degrees celsius, as well as oceans of liquid water. And minerals. A fuckload of minerals. Called it Pandora.
The Moon OST is the best music to play this game to and I will fight anyone that says otherwise.
Nothing beats the songs of the Red Army Choir you son of a corrupt fatcat and the blight of the patriarch, this is a fact and you can't do nothing about it without me fighting you to the death and burying you into a unmarked grave far away. Report from the Politburo of the Soviet Union; After exploring the suspicious jumpgate of unknown origin and the system beyond it without discovering any intellegient life, a sensor outpost was established in the "Wolf" system. Geological survey revealed the system bodies to be notably rich in gallicite, which is crucial mineral to the ordinance industry and manufacturing of sensor components used in our ships.
The maximum fuel efficiency for commercial engines is 0.50, and the minimum size is 25.
Oooohhh, so its no longer an option, its just if the engine is in those areas it is considered one.. Ok, thank you.
Is there anywhere that says what the effects of the different government types are? I'm a little interested in Fascism if only so I can make an empire of space Nazis.
I'm afraid to install this game. Last time it didn't work and some menus of windows 7 (not in-game) turned into yellow text and blue background which was really weird. Are there still pc-eating bugs in it? Also, why does it even had those bugs :v:

One of my leading weapons scientists is called Luke Perry

Select "Empire" from the main toolbar, and from the dropdown list select "View Race Detail" which looks something like this.
does changing your government do anything for the player or is it only used by the NPC governments?
does changing your government do anything for the player or is it only used by the NPC governments?
It changes how much stuff costs, industry-, diplomacy-, ship construction-, and ground unit training efficiency.
This game is just too much for me. I learned how to play Dwarf Fortress in a day and this game makes Dwarf Fortress look like Call of Duty.
This game is just too much for me. I learned how to play Dwarf Fortress in a day and this game makes Dwarf Fortress look like Call of Duty.
What? Designing technologies, and components based on technologies which are put into ships with certain amount of fuels and deployment time for crews is too much for you to handle? You saying you can't comprehend this picture here?
When should I be looking at upgrading my ship designs? My researchers have started researching upgrades for my technology but obviously before I can apply it I need to start research projects to design new ship components and what have you. I had the game pick a load of starting technologies and ship designs for me and I'm still using those, but as the year 2050 draws closer I'm beginning to wonder if I should start upgrading. I don't want a repeat of the first contact incident when I put operation DESTROY ALL ALIENS into effect

I recommend refitting your ships everytime new propulsion technology comes around.

After my Queensland Destroyers got hilariously humiliated I've been upgrading my meson focal strength as well as a few other things. I'm guessing designing guns that are roughly the same size that incorporate the new technologis the way to go?
You saying you can't comprehend this picture here?
That picture is talking about a military ship class with a missile, jump drive, and a Gauss cannon and the times for hangar reload.
I generally time my refits to when I hit the next level of engine tech designs. Missiles when I've gone up a tier in each component tech, or all but one.
That picture is talking about a military ship class with a missile, jump drive, and a Gauss cannon and the times for hangar reload.
You missed the important parts, which are: crew deployment time, maintainance supplies, maintainance life, annual failure rate, fuel, crew, radar range, and overall thermal signature. [editline]12th November 2012[/editline] Protip; design "warehouses" with hangars to cover enought tonnage for specific classes, then land ships of that class into them to save in minerals and maintainance.
Wow fire delay is a bitch. I sent a whole bunch of missile cruisers over to blow the shit out of some alien scum and weapon delay saw them get smashed apart before they could even fire the first volley.
Wow fire delay is a bitch. I sent a whole bunch of missile cruisers over to blow the shit out of some alien scum and weapon delay saw them get smashed apart before they could even fire the first volley.
And this is why task force training is vital
Are Gauss cannons any good? I'm thinking of building some gunships that just use massive kinetic weapons but I'm not sure as to the difference between rail guns and gauss cannons.
Are Gauss cannons any good? I'm thinking of building some gunships that just use massive kinetic weapons but I'm not sure as to the difference between rail guns and gauss cannons.
Gauss Cannons have the maximum range of 60,000 kilometers, they are point defence weapons that have high rate of fire and no power requirement. I use them as last line of defence weapons if the enemy manages to get close and personal throught my missiles and railgun fire.
Though since they don't require a power plant and can be miniaturized nicely they're not unsuited to fighter use
Do ruins give off a thermal signature? I found a ruined outpost and I honestly don't know if the thermal signature was a ship or if it was the outpost.
The ruins don't. Listening posts with a deep space tracking station will though. They also usually have robot troops there so, proper precautions
The ruins don't. Listening posts with a deep space tracking station will though. If we get sent a distorted audio message full of screaming I guess that'll answer my question.
And then they build ships to come after you They're coming
And then they build ships to come after you They're coming
Oh shit where's the spreadsheet that calls Commander Shepard
