Their to-hit against a similiar vessel is like 30%... And that's before you apply enemy AMM fire or CIWS or turret fire. You have two missiles per salvo. Even counting a fleet of these things (let's say 5, so 10 missiles), and stacking up missiles at a waypoint then bringing them on in a wave... Barely any will hit, and will do little damage.
Then, by the Führer, help me make them better für das Reich.
Warhead strength and engine power look low, try researching those two then aiming for a missile that has 9 warhead strength (Not 9 MSP).
You can't be serious with a missile that huge. Standard anti-ship missiles are anywhere from size 5 to size 8, I prefer 6 as they're a decent combination between speed and firepower. Look here for tips on missiles: http://aurorawiki.pentarch.org/index.php?title=Missiles Here is the long-range missile I use, they've torn Precursors apart in a few volleys:

I haven't encountered any close-by aliens yet, which is nice. Trying to increase my shipyards buildrate so it doesn't take two years to construct survey ships. :v:
Will the universe collapse upon itself if I were to put 50% and 50% of both anti- and safe greenhouse gas? :v: But seriously, I have no idea what I'm doing here other than trying to get same amount of gases as in Earth and athmospheric pressure to 1.
Safe greenhouse gasses increase temperature without being lethal Anti-greenhouse gasses drop temperature while increasing pressure When you want neither and oxygen is at a good level, use nitrogen
Found a world with an atmosphere of 100% oxygen, I'm terribly concerned about an errant spark or someone lighting a match.
By the way Axiskiller, thanks for the guidance. This is the closest I managed to get, but now I have a clearer idea how to get the best out of them. Until I get improved Ion engines for missiles, this should do for a while.
Much better, though there's no reason to waste half a MSP. Tack it on to agility.
How do I create new Task Groups?
I cant open the goddamned F9 menu
How do I create new Task Groups?
F12 --> new
Just found a 110k ship orbiting a "ruined colony" in a neighbor system, how do I salvage it and reverse engineer? Shit, just discovered another alien race (race of hostile Wampa) and I don't even have a proper military industry, nor do I actually understand how to use the military.
I'm barely scratching the surface of this game, looks like it'll be a fun weekend!
I love this game, but I never have been able to keep a game going for longer than a few hours.

I don't suppose there's a technology that'll let my officers live longer? I've become quite attached to some of them. :(
By the way, you guys should download the race/flag packs, so you have less United Arab Emirate Space Koalas.
What's a good weapon to arm fighters with? I'm thinking lasers, or possibly railguns. Missiles might work, but I'd rather have the big ships chucking the missiles and the fighters taking out subsystems.
Lasers are good for maximizing effectiveness, although I must say you are not going to do a lot of damage with fighters. I recommend corvettes. With the proper techs you can mash 2 size 40 box launchers onto each while maintaining an incredibly low signature, especially if you do not go full speed.
I keep getting an error box when I try to enter the System view by clicking on the sun in the system map. How screwed am I? Can I still play the game without it?
I keep getting an error box when I try to enter the System view by clicking on the sun in the system map. How screwed am I? Damn research labs take ages to build.
I appear to be receiving a message from one of the systems I just explored. As far as I can tell the message is just "Years" repeated over and over. Curious.
What's a good weapon to arm fighters with? I'm thinking lasers, or possibly railguns. Mesons will penetrate shields whereas gauss cannons fire ridiculously fast and both are relatively lightweight. Let's see, how many people can I reply to in a single post! Smeismastger, no problem man. That's a perfectly decent missile design there, although you should never have a x.y size missile as that .5 MSP is just wasted, you'd still have to fire it out of a size-8 launcher, so you might as well use up that MSP for something. RearAdmiral, are you getting an error about missing a .dll? That menu is perfectly optional, though, so you'll be fine without it. About that "Years" message, blazingfly, I've never seen that before. Are you sure you just didn't accidentally tell one of your ships to do that? As for myself, currently duking it out with some [sp]Precursors[/sp] who can outrange me, but they're so close...and I discovered railguns make amazing point defense in a pinch.
Am I setting myself up for disaster if I've neglected the Energy Weapons Tech tree entirely, and instead focused heavily into Kinetics/Missiles and Defensive Systems? Currently the only tech trees I give any note for are the two mentioned above, and Construction/Production with the occasional Sensors and Fire Control.
Am I setting myself up for disaster if I've neglected the Energy Weapons Tech tree entirely, and instead focused heavily into Kinetics/Missiles and Defensive Systems?
Hell no. All of my ships are armed with gauss cannons, missiles, and railguns with the exception of my corvettes, who are armed with microwaves for cooking space popcorn (aka frying enemy sensors and FCs). The only energy weapons that are worthwhile if you take the ballistics route are meson cannons (shield penetration, like I said), plasma carronades (space shotguns, ridiculous close-range damage) and microwaves (fries electronics).
Great, while playing this game I had this song playing in the background, and now it's stuck inside my head on autoplay everytime I play this game. So much for GRIMDARK nazi tyranny empire control
Made a new game, this is the current status Doing pretty good, althought more research labs would be good. [editline]10th February 2012[/editline] Oh for fuck's sake

The other half delete your computer. :v: Turns out it was my own ships for some reason sending me fragmented reports on it's maintenance clock. I clued with it sent ".39" and then a month later "years" and checked the maint clock and it was 3.39 years. I have no idea why they did that. Stupid outdated geological ships.
