Yeah, a Psionic standalone class wouldn't really work. It's gotta be a subclass, with your class' default abilities available plus a new subset of psi-skills that you level up as you use them in missions. I do want more psi skills, since there's lots of cool stuff you could do with them that XCOM didn't really explore. I still want a superheavy infantry unit to be the 5th class. It'd be a very tech-influenced thing, so it'd show up at the halfway point or later as a result of your research and it'd compliment the base 4 classes, similar to how MECs worked in EW.
might be kinda cool if, when you level up a soldier's psi to max, you get the opportunity to choose to make them into a kind of ethereal-like soldier. No weapons, but really strong psi abilities to compensate. Functions as a bit of a mid-ground between making psi a class vs subclass
That would be a really bad move IMO if they treat Psi as it's own class, instead of it being a subclass like EU/EW. Also it wouldn't make any sense, how exactly are you to train a psionic in this new fashion like the other rookies? What would mean everyone is gifted, but EU/EW stated that only some soldiers with a high Will are gifted.
I did a bit of brainstorming on this - Psi would be like hacking - depending on the stats of the trooper, all classes would have access, but one would be especially good at PSI combat, like the Specialist is for hacking.
Fifth class is probably Sectoid hybrids.
what about an enforcer?
I just want mec trooper back
Fifth class is probably Sectoid hybrids.
I'd be pretty pissed too if I was turned into part Sectoid/Human (whichever lifeform was spliced into the other)
What if we actually get to make our own commander this time? Instead of just being some all knowing force, we can actually become a playable unit. Of course this means that dying on the battle field would probably cause an instant game over.

You have been picked for this position with good reason, to oversee how research is handled and how your troops fulfill their duties in combat. Everybody in xcom has been picked with a good reason, and that's your role.

Engineers increasing material yields and scientists getting "field data" to speed research. Armed with a pistol at the most.
I'd bet my left bullock that you'll use your scientists and engis in base defense missions.
I'd be down for needing to hide/protect them from incoming aliens/ADVENT. As cool as EU base defense was, I'm still bummed it was another hard coded map. But, with the procedural map system maybe Avenger defense could be procedurally made to resemble your ship (It's a shame the "ant farm" design would make this really weird and maybe even unfun to play). Then having some rooms damaged may entail needing to repair them, you could lose engineers and scientists in the attacks...

I knew the Ethereals had to be high considering all the weird decisions they made.

His music was so good and this is now a bad game; cancelling preorder as we speak. I was really looking forward to more of his combat tracks. They fit right into the mood of the game and never got old, no matter how many hours you spent ingame.
While it's a bummer McCann won't be contributing, I'm sure (hoping) he might've at least left some pointers. I'm sure there will be some quotations of McCann somewhere, they can really invoke feeling when you're familiar with the quoted piece. I literally cried when I heard the JP theme quoted in JW. As for less prominent UFOs, it's a bummer since the air game was kinda one of XCOM's features, but I guess given the probable lack of interceptor capacity on the Avenger, it's reasonable lore wise. Hopefully we'll be getting some kind of alternative.
McCann is probably busy with Deus Ex.

(apologies for the crappy quality, best I can find from Gamescom) Judging from the music here, Tim's doing pretty well with it.
Don't jump the gun too much. We might not know the whole story on the strat layer.
I'm not saying there isn't going to be an intercept-like feature, it just might not be interception necessarily as we know it, interceptor vs. UFO. We might intercept ADVENT transports or perhaps get calls for help from outlying free towns. [editline]7th August 2015[/editline] Also judging from the second staff option in the Advanced Warfare Center, it looks like injured soldiers can lose abilities.
Also judging from the second staff option in the Advanced Warfare Center, it looks like injured soldiers can lose abilities.
Does that mean that we can literally beat our soldiers stupid and have them be re-purposed for different skills?
I love randomly generated names, playing OpenXCOM, UFO defense to take a break from terror from the deep, and one of my starting eight rookies was a "John Price" This man must survive, if he dies, I'm deleting the save, campaign over.
