If you're right and they're not having another fuckup like the Muton, Imma gonna be more livid than a drenched berserker.

Eh. I'm not fond of saying possessives when speaking of my troops. Feels a bit disrespectful to the digits.

I for one love the new Muton design. Feels MiB, as I've said before.
The new Chrysalid, however, felt like a lazy reskin. I was expecting the classic design to return as a "hybridized" look.

I was referring to the early release of the Muton Data on the XCOM 2 website then it being subsequently taken down then reuploaded - I like both the new muton and the new chryssalid.
shame EXALT doesn't get MECs

The classic look was bland as hell. You've got a rapidly reproducing creature that implants its offspring in corpses, which rip out to immediately breed more, and you go with a humanoid robot? Making them insectoid gives them far more character and fits what they do a hell of a lot more. Any move towards more human designs is going to look more like bland, homogenized shlock. The berserker is far more interesting in XCOM 2 because it is an enormous tank that looks more varied from human designs than XCOM EU. The Muton, while being "merged with human DNA" looks interesting because its head is much less human-shaped than in EU. Making the chryssalid more humanoid would be eliminating the visual aspects of it that made it interesting to begin with.

Oh, I literally meant my Gauss Sniper Rifle. See, in my run, the commander comes from a parallel dimension which is also about 78 days ahead of this one. Also, he used to be a top ranking sniper, before getting sucked into an Ethereal's Rift, which instead of killing him, sent him on a trip through limbo and ended up here. So it's perfectly okay to say "my" in this specific case!

It doesn't have to be a robot.
The poison and fast headcrabs in Half-Life 2 were an example of Valve being good on their word of headcrabs getting homogenized by the Combine, and I was hoping the same would happen with ADVENT in this one, especially when Firaxis came out with the word that the enemies would change up a lot.
Like I said, they could just make it so it looks like the previous design. A homage, rather than changing it all up.
It doesn't look like its 'evolved' much, like the promotions say. It just has some extra frills on it.

deangelis said "evolved" as in 'the chryssalid's gameplay mechanics have been altered for XCOM 2.' the sentence you're quoting that from has a context that makes that pretty clear.

also, and i'm just saying this for clarification, homogeneous doesn't mean what you think it does
I wonder if seekers will be back and wither or not they will be so bloody tedious and annoying to fight, just not fun at all.
I wonder if seekers will be back and wither or not they will be so bloody tedious and annoying to fight, just not fun at all.
That reminds me of one game.
So it's around mid tier, got carapace on the four of the squad while the rookie had the bare minimum (As usual) We go to a abduction mission over in the US or Canada (Can't remember) It was the highway map.
Clear out every aryy but one seeker. So I spread everyone over the map but keep them close enough to take it out after it comes out of cloak to strangle someone in search of this flying toaster, it was not till several turns later that he finally shows up.
Pops up and just one shots the rookie, not strangling him but goes out of cloak behind him and melts his face off with it's plasma gun.
Needless to say, it was annoying but atleast he got some justice as the rest of the squad turn it into scrap metal.
It's essentially guaranteed damage in the early game. your squad does not have the accuracy or the damage to kill 1 during overwatch. What usually happens is i set up all 4 guys next to each other and overwatch, one seeker takes the bait drawing 3 overwatch shots, 2 of which always miss and the 3rd deals 1/2/3/4 damage never enough to kill it. The 4th overwatch is not set off by a seeker because that squad member is the target. So they get strangled taking 2 health off them.
On the next turn, you have 3 squad members standing next to the seeker with 45/55% shots. 2 guys miss and the 3rd kills it releasing your 4th so you can overwatch with them. And then during that turn the next seeker turns up to repeat the process and due to all the misses you have no ammo left to do anything to the damn thing. It's normally around this time that a wandering pod of floaters or sectoids rock up so they get a whole turn to fuck you over without retaliation / prep.
It's never caused any deaths to me but even so it's bloody annoying knowing you'll take damage and you can't stop it, unless you tile scan of course.
When you get lasers it makes it a lot less frustrating but then they become totally pointless enemies.
I will say that while I really do like the new Chryssalid design, I don't know if it merges so well with how they actually work in gameplay. Visually, they look much more menacing, powerful, and tanky. In gameplay, however, they're a lot squishier than in EU, with their threat being in their numbers. They're less threatening singularly, with faster breeding. Having an enemy that looks more tanky, but is actually less tanky doesn't strike me as particularly good design.
To be honest, old Cryssalid looks like a crab, more than an insect, and Fallout's Mirelurk design probably owes it quite a bit. However, I think there is one way it could make sense - instead of instant cocoon, anyone killed by a Cryssalid, would after some turn, bloating and changing to have carapace, ending up with a Zombie which looks like the classic Lid. However, after some time, the standard lids would jump out of the Lid zombie.
But then, arguably, I just miss the Lid zombies and their ridiculous health.
I just think it would be properly horrifying to see a monstrous, crablike, humanoid creature jut out of the flesh of its stoic, bloated occupant.
You know, like The Thing.
Still predicting XCOM 2 on thursday:

Dr. Tygan. Don't know his first name, but I like Shen's daughter more than him already.
what if the fifth class is a Heavy Weapons Platform
What if the fifth class is gleepmorp?
Sounds like Richy wants to volunteer for the new suicide mission! Let us know what you think of the 'Lids when they start crawling out from the ground beneath you.
imo lids don't really look terrifying at all, sure they're a menace in gameplay but they don't really look like ferocious string-people-limb-from-limb type of guys
they look like the dudes who would do autopsies for aliens and run away when you invade an alien base or something
i agree, basically, that they could have gone some Giger-esque xenomoprh direction with it and it would have really been cool but it's just XCOM, it's still got a faint b-movie laxity to it, and i don't really expect or need that kind of artistic statement from it like i do from other games

Guys full name is Dr Richard Tygan. He's former Advent, turned XCOM.
Our new engineer is Lilly Shen, she's Shens daughter.
Tomorrow I'm on the Firaxis stream, I'm pretty excited to talk about XCOM 2 and the strategy layer. Then back to my dark cave.
Anyone looking forward to today's twitch?
Oh god yes, I've been wanting to hear Jake talk about XCOM2 for ages. Garth does a good job but Jake's the main man and I wanna know where a lot of ideas came from.

Well that certainly made the Large Scout 20 times scarier than it used to be.

For those who saw the leaked footage, this is the same thing, but with the cut-scene of the Avenger getting shot down at the end.
