The Firaxis stream starts at 11am PST, 2pm EST, 8pm CET. Get in if you don't want to miss Jake talking about all the strategy layer changes.

On stream, they just said that when a weapon is built, you have an infinite supply of that type of weapon. If you build a magnetic rifle, you have as many magnetic rifles as you want.
I love how they talk about the design process.
"So we did some stuff and thought 'Hey this might be cool' and we asked the guys and they just added it in"
This game will probably be replayable forever.
Oh god, why can't it be November yet? All these things just get me super excited for the game.
Also, didn't they want to reveal information on preorders and collectors edition this week?
Stream analysis:
-6 weapon upgrades - from what has been said, these appear to be classes of upgrade, with different qualities that drop within a class.
- Advanced warfare facility is available moderately into the game
- With luck and skill, more than one Dark Event is foilable
- Some scars and markings are applied automatically
- Demo Geoscape screen unusually sparse - it's usually a crazy forest of options
- Consumable resources can be acquired by digging out rooms - as well, power resources can be gained on the Geoscape somehow.
- Soldier stats are on different scales for each stat - some have small increments, others are less granular.
- Resistance headquarters may give leads on personnel
- Experiments in the Proving grounds are repeatable, if one has enough Elerium. As well, there are less experimental options in that room that give more predictable results.
-Troopers on a mission assemble in the armory
- Special customization options are gated at Sargent rank

I like that Avellone/Kojima game design philosophy. Reminds me of the good ol' days.

Hell. My only problem with this game so far is the 'new' Chrysalid design. All else is diamonds.
Have we got any system requirements yet?
I grow more and more terrified I won't be able to run this and I don't think I can upgrade for a couple years. :saddowns:

You forgot the most important thing:
- Tygan's name comes from Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Carl Sagan.

Couldn't finish the video. Had jaw surgery so I can't smile or laugh and I nearly lost it at about 35:20 when they talk about the council guy.

That sounds bizarrely coincidental, but interesting, nonetheless.
That sounds bizarrely coincidental
No, the designer straight up said that he decided on Tygan by combining the names of his two favourite scientists.

Jake Soloman, the lead designer, literally said that in the stream.
I like the image of carl sagan leading a violent resistance against alien invasion
Carl Sagan replacement mod, assuming anyone can be bothered splicing together a ton of lines from Cosmos.

Is this what the XCOM operators listen to while at the gym? :v:
I cannot understand why characters in xcom 2 (especially Mr. bald council guy) put a lot of trust in commander who failed to stop the ayy's 20 years ago. How sure or gullible these characters are to think that the same commander won't fail them again.
Playing Long War, somehow my shadow armor bugged out and gave my guy a perma-cloak. Even when fired upon the aliens couldn't fire back.
Pictured: Sectoid Commander in total disarray when his buddies were mysteriously killed by an unseen force.

Needless to say, the ayys never saw him coming.

Probably because there is no one else who could conceivably step up to take charge who has prior experience of managing an organisation like XCOM? Also I'm pretty certain it was implied that XCOM was "betrayed" by the Council shortly after the aliens attacked because it went all-out from the get-go instead of being drip-fed. I doubt the people who made up the Council in the first game are the same people relying on you to lead the resistance now.

My Understanding from the extended Gamescom trailer is that the aliens found and assaulted XCOMs HQ way early on. This would mean that the commander never "failed", nor that they were betrayed.

If that ever happened to me I'd probably just do the whole mission with a pistol for giggles.

If you can find another person who can micromanage a squad of soldiers' every action in the field through the power of pure thought, then I'd love to meet them.
But until then, The Great Commandy One is in charge.
Does the FP Long War rework work on B15F3?
Nah, I haven't updated it to F3, still F2. I'll update it when I get around to it.
[Edit]
Lol, nvm. The changelog is literally a new german voice and a CTD fix. It will work fine.
So I seem to have found an interesting little quirk on landed abductor maps. The aliens are very very dodgy about finding their way to the roof of the ship unless they can fly, even chryssalids. Currently having a game of "the ground is plasma" with some mutons and the chryssalids.
kid with the stick is for sure a ranger and the one looking the opposite way is obv sniper material
