http://ca.ign.com/articles/2015/06/03/xcom-2-reveal-trailer-rewind-theater?watch Analysis: -Tacticool stuff is more than trailer tactilol -Civies and scanners can indeed raise alarms -Gremlin can both can protect controller and shoot AoE stun. -Intimation that Grenadier gets MG option -Sniper weapon is indeed at least one tier up from 1. -Enemies can be so startled that they don't even dash. -Trailer probably mostly representative of gameplay outside of sectoid kill -Skyranger hovers when evacing. -Sectoid still first alien
It happened why
Through dick, unity
I kinda wanna see someone make a medieval/fantasy/dungeon crawling mod out of this next Xcom. Complete with needlessly sexy snake women.
Stargate mod too, imo XCOMesque gameplay suits Stargate quite well. I'd attempt it myself if I wasn't balls at 3D modelling.
I FUCKING CALLED IT.
You should have seen the other version of that picture. It turned out to be more than a smooch.
Also calling it now: Half-Life 2 total conversion when that degree of modding is possible.

Here's an unmodded gun to compare
We're likely still going to see Thin Men, just not in the way we currently know them. But they will still 10 shit crit your sergeants from 40 tiles away while he's in high cover and hunkered down
With the whole planet under their thumb and a believable human front it's really not necessary to have a crude inilftator skulking around the streets, even to act as a mole of some kind. That said since the aliens now have a more advanced understanding of human culture and genetics a modern thin man could outwardly be indistinguishable from an actual human. Perhaps modern thin men are absolutely amazing spies who you'll have to deduce from your agent pool by subtle tells. Stuff only a reptile person stuffed inside of man skin would want to do, like wanting to fuck a giant snake woman. Actually wait...

In EU and EW they look more comically huge than beefy. The standard assault rifle looks like a god damn Bolter. [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] Also, Long War is awesome and I should have started on it earlier on. Battle Rifles stomp the everloving shit out of everything.
Really don't like the new art direction in this one. I liked EU's comic-book aesthetic way better. This just looks like more of the same generic over-cluttered sci-fi style that I can find in a dozen other games. Edit: I'm still gonna buy it, of course. I'm just sad to see another game jump to a "realistic" style that it really didn't need.
Nothing about the game looks "realistic" to me. For one thing, the snakepeople have tits.
So long as you don't include Samantha Carter or whatever her fucking name was, I'd be for this as well.
Hey, are you the guy who had an issue with SG-1 in the ME thread too? Seriously, what is the problem with them?
the style you're referencing is just firaxis' style so i doubt you'll be disappointed [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] replying to Alpha not gonna go back and quote on a phone

Neat.

I just felt like the big, chunky style looked better. It was a lot cleaner, a lot more immediately legible, and it made the units feel a bit like tabletop miniatures, which I really liked. Plus, it helped make XCOM's faintly ridiculous fiction more agreeable, like a sly wink from the artists saying, "yeah, this is all a bit silly. A giant robot-man just punched a bright green body-builder alien across a suburban carpark. We know that's silly, and so do you. Let's just have some fun, eh?" The new game... eh. It feels like it's trying to be a lot more serious, which just makes stuff like the snake-alien and the giant machete-sword look out of place to me. Like, if you had shown me a screenshot of the four XCOM soldiers in the trailer lined up in the alley, and told me it was from the upcoming Deus Ex game, I would have believed you completely. They've got the same overly-detailed outfits and weapons going on, they're all roughly the same proportions, and their robot drone is just some floating piece of tech that's not particularly evocative of anything, unlike the SHIVs of EU that looked like little armoured buggies. I hate to be so negative about a game that hasn't even been released yet, especially about a feature that can't possibly be changed this late in development. But the trend of modern art direction towards cramming in as much detail as possible in the name of "realism" is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I adored EU and EW for bucking that trend and doing something different.
Long War is pretty fun, I'm enjoying having lots of new items and equipment. I'm not enjoying that Terror Missions are 9 Floaters and 4 Chrysallids and all the Civvies are up the other end of the map however, that's a shame. EDIT: Just beat Newfoundland, lost one Lance Corporal and one SHIV. The heroic Droid gave its life to active the ships translocator, god bless you Thunder 1.
Nothing about the game looks "realistic" to me. For one thing, the snakepeople have tits.
It's an alien. For all we know, it's some kind of alien therapsid or pangolin.
Swords? No really, swords on back? I love xcom, but why swords when you have assault rifles grenade launchers, plasma canons? Can't you carry a pistol? The trailer didn't hype me. The idea is somewhat nice, but the trailer is cluttered, the style is uneven, the combat was strange. Like out of a cartoon. Expected more. Hope they don't dumb down the gameplay too much.
the dangerous thing about the Viper is she doesn't need to find you. She can reach out with her tongue and pull her to you.
It's like they're catering to that fetish
*Drunk Russian*
Did you somehow miss the whole Guerrilla theme? The fact that XCOM are the underdogs? There's nothing wrong with the trailer nor with the artstyle, still looks alot like EU/EW which is fine by me. And why the hell are you acting like the game is a flop when we haven't even seen any gameplay yet?
I personally liked the fact one of the soldiers carried a machete, while playing XCOM I thought it'd be interesting if all the soldiers had something spare besides their pistol, like an ability to use in panic situations where they'd whip out a knife and stab at an alien. Now that the XCOM project and it's soldiers are now resistance, carrying improvised or old weapons makes sense given that resources might be scarce, plus blades are silent.
I hope there's more melee weapons than just machetes though.
It would be cool if you could mod in voice clips, I would totally make an HECU squad or make all the Advent troopers sound like metrocops
Hell. That machete we see in the trailer could've been useful in EU/EW as well. God damn Chryssalids...
To be fair on one point MuffinZerg is not wrong about the backsheath for the machete making no sense but I'm all for rule of cool at the end of the day Its too difficult really to explain with words and unfortunately Skallagrim removed his 10 minute video where he went over it so I can't link that, but its apparently just very difficult to draw it over the shoulder due to collisions involving the weapon, the sheath and your back as you draw it. I think the fact the guy in the trailer draws it so slowly is a subtle nod to that.
Bought Enemy Within, reached enemy base, hear a sound down, jumps to check what is it, I see this: [img_thumb]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/546406144349562399/62B507C0BD9CADF3412315B76544B625E0C69ADE/[/img_thumb]
