What I loved in the very original XCOM in case of successful late campaign was making my way onto the roof of an UFO in hover suits and blasting my way through the very top of an UFO and descending from the top of the bottom in case of multi levelled ones, it oddly enough seemed to somehow confuse the aliens, or it was the layout of where they usually patrolled, but it worked great.
I can't wait until XCOM 2 comes out. I want to level city blocks while attempting to root out the faceless.
Firaxiscon XCOM panel is getting streamed on GameSpot in about 20-30 mins
So there's something called the Archon that in gameplay appears to be a floater with the sectopod's barrage ability.

It ended a few minutes ago
Unlucky. Anything interesting come up?
They showed some concept art to start off, including some of the advent website teaser things, but also some new things, most notably some art work of an abandoned town. They also went into a bit of detail about the evolution of the art style. After that they went on to talk about some more technical things, for example how the new overwatch works and how they get the cinematic shots like that. They also revealed Steam Workshop support and went into a bit of detail concerning the mod tools. The mod tools will ship with a visual studio shell (like the civ mod tools), as well as the UDK for XCOM 2 and 50GB(!) worth of art assets. Lastly they revealed two new enemies: The Advent Shieldbarer, a unit that can create energy shields for his allies and the Archon, the evolution of the floater.

Oh god the Archon has abs and everything. Equal oppurtunity fan service. Gotta say its angelic design is really strabge compared to everyone elses though, wonder if theyre meant to be like royal guard.

Strangely enough, the strongest "boss" heavy floater in Long War is called the Archon. Coincidence? Most likely.

Now I realized I have to make a disheveled PVT. Friendly with a five o'clock shadow.
its like you guys dont even CARE about workshop support
its like you guys dont even CARE about workshop support
I'm all about the idea of workshop support, but I don't expect high quality stuff on day one or anytime soon after release.
has there ever been a game where the workshop is better than whatever third party mod sites
if it means i never have to use texmod ever again idgaf
The amount of modding we'd be able to do sounds spectacular. Seriously need to get my hands on those bad boy tools.
Hope of being able to re-add MEC troopers rising.
Hope of being able to re-add MEC troopers rising.
First thing I'd wanna do is re-add SHIVs. And give them Borderlands 2 Loader Voice Packs.
so the fifth class is still a mystery
so the fifth class is still a mystery
It's Van Doorn, you fool!
What really gets me going about the modding suite is that we're getting 50GB of art assets. According to the art director that is basically everything from units to world clutter.
has there ever been a game where the workshop is better than whatever third party mod sites
Workshop is good for single assets and quickfixes, a lot of the top-notch mods end up on third party sites because the installation is convoluted and just doesn't work with Workshop.
Have they revealed if XCOM 2 is on Unreal Engine 3 or 4?
I'm pretty sure they are using a heavily modified Unreal Engine 3. I think I read something about that when they announced XCOM 2.
"Van Doorn, we'll getcha back!" Now I realized I have to make a disheveled PVT. Friendly with a five o'clock shadow.
The thing I notice was that Van Doorn's voice and attitude customizations were greyed out, Maybe he's got his own voice pack and of course, the famous bravado as his attitude.
