So I decided to try out this Art of War mod. In short, not worth trying. If I'm like 80% against Long War, I'm about 70% against this one. ...And if you want a wall of text, hold on to your butt: Seeing so many varying perks on items helps freshen up the game from the start. I always found early game a bit annoying until your soldiers started getting perks, so having different perks from just your armor/weapon/item combination feels really good. Even for enemies it feels oddly nice. On my first mission I had Sectoids with Concealments. At first I was shocked at how I'm about to get violated, but no, it was actually fun. It felt weirdly nice having to fight enemies that have this perk and not just XCOM. But: In just a few weeks, each enemy gets full of perks. Like, 8+ perks. Most of which can really screw you over. Especially Thin men with Aggression, Reactive Sensors, Bring 'Em On, Automated Threat Assessment and then give em a few Medal perks, which grant them more Aim/Defense/Will and let's not forget a few genemods here and there, you can roll real bad on Enemy RNG and get an enemy with 50 Defense while in High Cover with about 85 Aim. And another thing, why in the fuck are some perks renamed? They serve the same function as the ones in Vanilla/Long War, but for some reason they have some edgy name like Slayer (Bring 'Em On), Killing Field (Damn Good Ground) or Death Dealer (In The Zone). I already know all perks by heart, I don't need to learn new aliases. ----- Having 8 soldiers from start is a bit too much, but with the perk diversity feels nicer than usual. At least number wise, enemies don't do insane amounts of damage and your soldiers can actually survive a few hits. I'll give the mod that much. But: Having a lot of soldiers can easily turn against you, cause about 1 in 4 enemies gets Bring 'Em On with Aggression. AKA more Crit damage the more enemies in view. So you get Sectoids that do 2-4 Damage to do about 10 Crit Damage cause "get bent". And later on you upgrade to 10 soldiers, I don't know where to place them, it's just too much. It turns into a game of "Kill them in 1 turn, ASAP, otherwise your ass is getting grilled."

The one that is in place of Impossible. Oh yeah, and I think the mod would have been fine with just 6 classes. The Commander and Sleeper classes just feel so out of place.
arguably judging a mod being too hard while playing on the hardest difficulty is dumb
I'm judging it by not having a proper difficulty escalation. One example being is that the mod has the mechanic of giving you a lot of aim per every few first ranks and then declines to giving you lesser stats as you reach the maximum rank. Two problems occur out of this: - To make it harder for the player the mod just flushes you with enemies that passively have a large amount of defense. - Rookies have little to no chance of hitting anything compared to someone who is about 2 ranks up. It can easily have a difference of 15 to 20 aim. This is not a problem relating to a specific difficulty, this is just the mod itself.
The eyesight on these thinmints sure is something: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/384287337109298962/9B9501A362D5006A667375B88C6AE0CA1945C73F/[/t] He is shooting at the guy that you can barely see in the bottom right. That's like what, 30-32 tiles? I thought they only got partial squadsight.
Why even bother running the contest if you're not going to let the Japanese submit snake tits
i just hope someone submit special forces tattoos, even if they're against SF regulation IRL.
Even if people's tattoo design don't make it in (or can't, cause only 'Murica), it can easily be done as a mod, I'm sure.
Even if people's tattoo design doesn't make it in (or can't, cause only 'Murica), it can easily be done as a mod, I'm sure.
oh yeah i know, maybe this will get me into texture modding.
So, major over-fatigue spiral, only 3 out of 36 soldiers are ready to go and just barely, cause they are fatigued themselves and nobody is coming out the medbay any time soon. And then Zhang's mission. God damn it. Thinking that I really wanted Zhang, I just had to desperately try to fight off 20 or so enemies with just 2 snipers and a commander medic. And then I somehow pulled this shit off: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/384287337110669812/538BB945B9EE1609B261A5692606F9ABD3F049B4/[/t] [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/384287337110670408/DCACE647565A816CED0A9DE55E568DBE53D606D3/[/t] This had no right to go so well, I should have lost. Hell don't even look at those injuries, that's not health damage, that's just over-fatigue. I'm actually sort of ticked that I won that one without a hitch. So now, 36 out of 37 soldiers in the medbay, and little ol' Zhang, waiting on a clutch mission.

Are the advent troopers human? It would be neat if we could capture them and persuade them to fight for us like in MGSV
Are the advent troopers human? It would be neat if we could capture them and persuade them to fight for us like in MGSV
TBH, Fultoning people out would be such a needed upgrade to recover corpses/items/civilians, I' say it should be a thing.
i have a feeling they're a bit like the combine overwatch so y/n like we've seen that they bleed alien goop but they look human
The book preview describes them as not speaking english or any human language and no one seems to willingly join them so I think they may be weird modified clones.
i have a feeling they're a bit like the combine overwatch so y/n like we've seen that they bleed alien goop but they look human
I think the devs did mention that them bleeding Alien Goop was actually a bug, but I suppose they could have been telling lies. They speak an Alien language, definitely, but that can be taught, and may well be the new lingua franca of the ADVENT regime. The Combine Overwatch comparison is probably accurate, in that they're probably augmented (Genetically/Cybernetically) servants of the ADVENT and probably have no free will, either. Whether they joined of their own free will or not, who knows?
The text in the newscast from the reveal trailer was in alien script, so it seems likely that it's widely used by humans under their control
So, the only X-Com EU/EW mod I ever hear about is Long War, are there any other ones worth taking a looking at? Maybe even simpler stuff, like changing up the customization options, letting you use any of the armor deco's regardless of what actual suit they're wearing, anything?

Most mods are for long war since modding for EU is a very arduous process.
I hope that in XCOM2, there is an option to have all your team fire at once at the end of your turn if you're concealed so you don't blow your cover in the first shot and lose the bonuses

im losing my long war campaign so fucking hard [editline]7th October 2015[/editline] i lost all of asia in like 2 months [editline]7th October 2015[/editline] also, i'd just like you all to reflect, commiserate with me on the following image. consider the arrow slit line of sight, absorb the ingenuity with which it confounded my battle scanners, condole with me over the civilian that prevented me from rocketing the wall away, abandon yourself to the very slight elevation bonus this secotopod enjoys [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/deDOD9.jpg[/t]
Apparently my Covert Operative is a pro CS 1.6 player. Again, why does this mod have to rename perks?
The moment XCOM 2 comes out, I am gonna look into how to mod the moment I finish the campaign.
This. I cannot agree hard enough. If the tools are as diverse and powerful as we are led to believe. Many many hours of my life will be lost with them. Got to put my 3D skills to use somehow. :v:
