Having the enemy progress tech wise alongside XCOM is a nice touch. I'm talking besides just HP stacking.
oh god
xcom 2 is just long war.....with balance

Now there's an oxymoron if I ever saw one.
Now you too can imagine yourself being in an episode of L&I!

That book is like those 90s-Early 2000s adaptations of games and movies into books isn't it?
Alright well, there's 3 more months to go until XCOM 2 comes out, and I need a way to fill up that time, so I decided to start looking into some Long War editing again, and I'm talking beyond just a few .ini changes here and there, I started looking into how to edit the game core itself. For all the bad stuff Long War suffers from, it has a lot of nice additions that you can't just simply skip out on. So no matter how vain this attempt is gonna be, I'm gonna do my damndest to make Long War... Fun.
So, no matter how many chuckles that last statement made aside, here is what I got so far:
I've removed the 4th supra-class so now there's a total of 6 Classes: (Recon) Sniper, Assault ; (Support) Gunner, Engineer ; (Tactical) Infantry, Medic. One of the issues I always thought Long War had was the amount of classes. While I do understand that since Long War adds a lot of new factors to the customization of your soldiers, I thought it went a bit overboard with having 8 classes to fill it in. So mainly accept that I've merged the Scout with Assault and the Rocketeer with Engineer.
The number of soldiers you start with is now 20 and I think that will be a fine balance, since I'm also cutting fatigue and wound time by about 40%. Once I start doing some play-tests, I'll see if this needs to be increased. Maybe 25, not too sure.
Alongside cutting the 4th supra-class, I've also started reworking all the perk trees. Just like the class amount, while I think having 18 perks you can choose from is nice (3 from each 6 tiers) it also feels a bit Overkill, so I'm going with about 14 perk choices per class. That way it's a nice mix of choosing between 3 perks on a rank, or 2, or even just having 1 perk assigned on rank up. Currently I'm about 1/3 done with the perk tree reworks. As funny as it may sound, I found a form of balance with a sniper having suppression as it's unique ability.
By default, long war has at least 3 builds you can make out of every class, usually the perks are properly aligned in a column so you can easily make like a Tank/Crit/Operative Assault, and you can still do that. The system I'm doing right now is that the middle column has a gap from time to time which happens because you are given 2 perks to choose from. I'm crafting this in a way so that while the left perk may not benefit the right-side build and vice versa, they will always somehow benefit the middle build.
So yeah, that's what I got so far. I still need to look into fixing the airgame and see how to tweak alien progression, but other than that, I'd love to see what you guys think of this so far, and if you have any ideas do share, cause I really wanna make this as fun as possible.

Better yet, they could sell the proper fixed one and you can tear/burn it yourself. Same results for twice the fun.

Damn it Rookie, that's heresy if I ever heard one!
Nooononononono, see, it's just a phase! First you go through the "yeaaaah! aliens are here we're all saved from ourselves fuck da government!" phase, which is where you burn/trample/use the flag as toilet paper, then you go through the "ohhhhh shit, these aliens are pretty fucking mean" phase, where you hang the tattered, shitty flag up and go "xcom pls help".

Please look into tweaking alien spawns on smaller maps. This just happened to me today:

Yeah that's a common theme with Long War; Tight maps with light activity. Not sure if I can do anything about that, but I can try and look into it.
I renember talking about this with a bud earlier; wouldn't a WH40K mod for this be the raddest thing?
It'd be reasonably easy to make since you can always rip assets from DoW1, DoW2 and Space Marine. The players could be the Space Marines and the aliens could be Tyranids/Orks. You have several SM 'classes' to choose from aswell, Tactical, Devastator, Assault, Apothecary, Librarian, Vanguard/Sternguard Veterans, etc, so you're never going to be out of ideas for abilities and class perks.

Yeah, a 40K mod is often talked about, along with claims of heresy and such. It's neat because the mod almost makes itself, you just need to make it reasonably balanced but other than that the 40K universe pretty much gives you the classes and some perks on a silver platter. Also a ton of different aliens to shoot at.

A Half-Life 2 mod is also very possible with this story too
Mass Effect pls
So I know I might be a bit late to this but XCOM:EU is really damn detailed, down to the ketchup bottles on the table outside the pizzeria but I couldn't help but notice one little thing. There are no bathrooms in any of the maps, it's such a small thing but now I really want XCOM2 to have bathrooms so I can find a way to lure ADVENT soldiers into them to kill them. Anyone else notice this or just me?
I got the XCOM2 book. So far I can't honestly say I like it yet. Though I've just started part 2 so there's plenty of book yet to change my mind.

The construction maps have porta-toilets
I'm making a DOOM mod (depending on how hard it is to make mods quality may vary) so really I think most franchise conversions have their bases covered. All that needs to happen afterwards is someone to unite all the mod makers so there'd be one crazy ass modpack where you'd have Combine fighting with Orks and other wacky shit like that.
I'm curious just how open ended the modding will be. My own personal fantasy is to see some sort of Fire Emblem content in the engine

A new alien appears. The Andromedon.
Big daddies on the horizon.
Looks like the new Mechtoid, pretty sure I see the silhouette of something that looks like a Sectoid-Hybrid in there.
The head looks very elongated, almost as if it has a snout.

my theory: it the breather pack on the face of floater aliens

Damn, I love the design of the Andromedon. It's got a cool retro sci-fi throwback feel while not being goofy and still incorporating more modern elements.
the art & design in X2 is just fuckin :ok:
