Picked EW up again yesterday after a long while not playing it. Man did I forgot how much fun it can be to suffer! Started up a new game with most second wave options and on impossible, but I think I'll have to go Long War again soon, vanilla feels too easy after playing it. [editline]22nd December 2015[/editline] Also holy shit what a fucking amazing OP.
Man, I hope they release more info on the steelbook edition soon. As in, being able to ship to the uk. I really want it.

I'll just put together my own deluxe edition, game, reinforcement pack, and t-shirt.
I recently finished XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within, and I'm still craving for more XCOM. I might finish my current Xenonauts playthrough where I rename all of my soldiers to people that I'm friends with (again) then move to XCOM: TFTD. If you ask me, I do this so it makes the game more interesting and makes the loss a lot harder to bear. I've been holding those off for a while, especially TFTD. I get discouraged every time a terror mission or ship attack occurs and those Gillman and Deep Ones kill every civilian on the first turn. Then they proceed to destroy my SWP and troops in the next turn.
So what are the odds/hopes we're getting a demo soon? EU got one shortly before launch.
Will I want to off myself playing my first run of EW on Ironman? I'll feel compelled to savescum if I don't but I don't want there to be zero real struggle, you know? I'm still gonna play on normal, I've never been 10/10 at turn based strategy.

Some bugs still exist that can cause your games to be unusable and not playable anymore. Ironman mode just leads to you losing everything if the game bugs out due to only one save.

Okey dokey, thanks.

Man the Base Defense is kicking my ass so hard. I am doing Impossible and everything was going nicely so I ended up with only 1 character not wearing default armor and nobody has weapons better than default. I regret everything. Although I am almost done with it and nobody died so far this is truly hellish.
ironman is for people who have no self-control tbh
ironman is for people who have no self-control tbh
Ironman is for masochists
ironman is for people who have no self-control tbh
I wish Ironman wasn't required for achievements. Can't bear the thought of doing a Ironman Impossible run and then just getting my save fucked by some voodoo computatronic shit.
Do I need to restart my save if I buy some DLC after starting or will I just get to use it? I'm pretty early-game, just tazed the outsider
Do I need to restart my save if I buy some DLC after starting or will I just get to use it? I'm pretty early-game, just tazed the outsider
If it's the Elite Soldier Pack DLC, no, it's just customizable options. If it's the Slingshot DLC, yes, when you start a new campaign, you will see a Tick Box to enable it. If it's the Enemy Within DLC, yes, when you start the game you will have to choose Enemy Within, not Enemy Unknown, and you can't transfer saves from Unknown to Within.
I've never lost a save on Ironman, ever. I think there were bugs with it on launch, but they've been patched out a long time ago.

Ironman letting you restart a mission at the cost of the soldier with the most kills
what the fuck dudes ironman is just one of several fun ways to play XCOM, jeez
I just use ironman 'cause it's easier. I already just use a singular save file outside of ironman, so I figured I might as well enable it to keep the saves neater and gain free posterity.
My save folder is a graveyard of aborted ironman attempts.
BTW, vesmolol has three more chapters in his fanfic: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10974108/1/Alive-and-Impossible
Speaking of fanfiction, me and my roommate a few weeks ago were trying to avoid studying and discussed an XCOM tv series. I think we decided on 3-4 seasons. This is long. The first season would be a short "pilot" season, it'd go from the first mission to the first terror mission. The major goals of this season to establish some characters for our squad in addition to the Council, Vahlen, Shen, and Bradford, and basic elements like UFO interception, recovery, and abductions. The commander may mentioned in passing but is not shown or named. The major arc for the season would be whether the XCOM project would continue. We wouldn't show off too many main characters, in fact we'd probably kill a lot of people to show the early challenges of the war. Though we'll see a lot of them seem young and rookie like. Probably lose a country or two, we really want to show that this effort is grim, and possibly futile. Towards the end of the season we'd start hearing about new tech developments like carapace armor and laser weaponry, but they aren't quite finished yet. The season finale would be the first terror mission, which is successful (and the squad survivors will be main characters in later seasons). The success of the mission assures that continuation of the XCOM project. The second season picks up where we left off. It'll certainly be a bit more optimistic, since XCOM isn't quite fighting for its own survival anymore. We'd get deeper into XCOM's efforts to understand the aliens, going over autopsies, UFO types, MELD, the aliens themselves and their technology. Outside of our main squad members, we'd be rotating secondary characters in the squad, people we can get to know, promote, and kill off later. The major arc here would be attempting to capture aliens, and interrogate them. Throughout the season, we'd start peppering in new technology like laser weaponry and better armor. Discuss the possibility of MECs and gene modding. Our main characters will be progressively better in combat. Not necessarily talking deliberate abilities, but see them just be more effective and confident. We'll see escalation of the alien's efforts, introducing abductor ships, new aliens like the Muton and Cyberdisc. We also may start peppering subtle EXALT references, silhouettes in the background, maybe a logo drop somewhere. Portent will be a big hint and take place this season, as well as Friends in Low Places. Consequently Zhang comes on as a secondary character. This season wraps up with the second to last episode as the base assault, and the last episode would pick up a few days after, and be a cliffhanger as the first half of the base defense.* The third season picks up by finishing the base defense mission. An important character is severely wounded, but will be brought back as a MEC. Though they'll have internal conflict with this forced transformation. Possibly have another character volunteer for augmentation, alternate the two in the squad, gives intra-squad conflict. EXALT becomes an official threat, though they will be mentioned solely in passing after their introduction**. We can take this opportunity to swap out a main character who may become a covert operative. Major plot points this season include extreme escalation of the conflict, introducing heavy floaters, elite mutons and sectoid commanders as regular enemies. The threat of a battleship is an issue throughout, perhaps shoot down some satellites. Psionics become a subject, we get one gifted soldier but they have significant trouble developing their abilities. Gene modding also becomes actually applied to some soldiers though not all. Deluge will take place early on, bringing on Annette as a main squad member and mentor to our gifted soldier (Though she will not develop mind control). Confounding Light and Gangplank will come as a two part episode, eliminating our battleship problem. The firestorm is finished, and turns the war in XCOM's favor. The final episode will be intercepting the overseer ship, recovering the ethereal device, and Annette dying. The fourth season is largely spent wrapping things up. Our gifted soldier will start developing their abilities up to Annette's abilities and beyond, including mind control. XCOM is pretty much done with tech developments, so psi armor and the ethereal device will be the only tech subjects this season. The threat of ethereals on the field will also lead to the mind shield being an important development. The EXALT base assault will be mentioned somewhere, though not an episode itself (Perhaps taking place between seasons). Furies occurs during this season, one of them will be brought on as a secondary character. We discover temple ship, perhaps fail at shooting it down from the outside. The ethereal device is finally researched and the gollop chamber is developed, our gifted soldier becoming the volunteer. Newfoundland occurs somewhere as well. Obviously we wrap up with the temple ship assault. The most beloved original character dies during this mission. Obviously we win, yay, show ends. I know this one is kinda boring, it could maybe even be merged into season 3, making that season longer. * If there was an XCOM 2 show, it could pick up here. Or the second part could be a flashback later on. ** Since we didn't want to shift the focus of the show over to EXALT, we decided that they would be handled in a spin-off show; XCOM: Covert Ops. The spin-off show would focus on EXALT, and a handful of covert operatives. We'd get to see what the operatives do, and extraction missions are handled here too. It'd just be one season, ending with the base assault, pulling the regular XCOM squad over for the finale. One episode would revisit a regular XCOM episode, but from the perspective of a EXALT operatives working in the background. Whoever is focused on in this episode, would be seen in the finale, and die. tldr: XCOM could make a neat TV series.
I would watch the FUCK out of that. Just don't pitch it to Fox or they'll give it one season that runs at 2am then cancel it at the second-last episode. I think it'd work great as being slightly longer than Band of Brothers. Maybe twelve hour-long episodes, divided into four chapters. About the same length as the uncut LotR trilogy (which is a lot of bloody time to build lore)
Xcom Enemy known. Seriously are they gonna spoil all the baddies before launch?? Sure seems like it. I hope there are still some surprises in there.
Plot twist: There's 30 more unannounced enemy types.
Plot twist: There's 30 more unannounced enemy types.
Double plot twist: We play as the aliens and xcom is the enemy.
So i'm about Half-way through the XCOM 2 Novel, it's pretty good so far. I'm wondering though, is there anything anything about the game/lore it'll spoil if i continue? So far the only thing has been that [sp] ADVENT Soldiers aren't entirely Human [/sp]

Any longer and I honestly think the show would start to drag on a bit the way the game can. Probably would go the animated route, since live action against cgi chryssalids would not be pretty. Clone Wars looks pretty good and that's 3D rendered, and Valve's recent trailers look really good too.
