I love the XCOM games. But god damn I cannot play above Normal. I just get too angry.
I love the XCOM games. But god damn I cannot play above Normal. I just get too angry.
I've tried playing classic, I want to enjoy the challenge so much, but I just get so fucked. It's like I'm better than normal but not good enough for classic.
There really need to be an in-between. Something that only has half of the growth of alien stats would be nice enough. [editline]7th June 2015[/editline] Or just unshackle the AI without the stat growth.
That's probably my biggest complaint with most games ever. Increase in difficulty just means the stats are increased and the computer starts to cheat. Intelligence and counter moving is not increased. I mean, we're able to have a computer beat the the chess champions in the world, but I go from Normal to Classic and all I get is an increase in bullshit buffs to aliens and debuffs to my guys. [editline]6th June 2015[/editline] I remember when everyone was so happy when Bioshock Infinite was going to release with a '1998 Difficulty'.
but the AI does change with difficulty [editline]6th June 2015[/editline] it makes better decisions on impossible than it would on normal [editline]6th June 2015[/editline] nvm context
I came up with a massive lists of total conversions that I hoped to get, then I realized the folly of such a thing when I had listed about 20 things. I'm extremely pumped for a fully changeable X-com. The amount of fictional universes this game suits is phenomenal.
The game is also apparently self aware, I recall several moments where my sniper missed several perfect shots in a row, I got super pissed and made him shoot some enemy he couldn't possibly hit, and he nails it without even trying.

Have had the game register 100% hit chance only for a piece of the terrain that wasn't calculated to eat the shot.
Well, I have the game working and now...I've lost interest. God fucking damn.
Do you think they'll ever do the likes of a giveaway again? I failed to get a copy on two occasions because of strange issues when signing up for one.

Observe Vladimir, when holding rifle like peestol, you stronger than recoil for fear of hitting face.
Damage Roulette sure likes to give you the finger. I get behind of a Sectoid Commander with an Assault soldier, 100% hit and critical chance. Only one damage point. Every time. Only one time I got like 31 damage points and it felt really good.
I've tried playing classic, I want to enjoy the challenge so much, but I just get so fucked. It's like I'm better than normal but not good enough for classic.
I beat classic twice and yet I could not manage more than four missions in my save when I reinstalled let's just remind ourselves of how absolutely fucking ridiculous the outsider is on classic six health, enhanced plasma rifle that crits almost every fucking turn, is never fucking hit in full cover by anyone for more than a paltry 3 damage meanwhile, is capable of critting every single one of your men while THEY are in full cover and hunkered down, while every single soldier firing at him that turn misses spectacularly
Holy shit, I did the fishing village mission and have never been so tense for so long. tonight I will surely have chryssalid nightmares
Welcome to the club, did you lose anyone?
I have the most bad-ass team of infantry I could have ever hoped for, three men of invincible steel each with the ability to fire two shots per turn and enough bonuses to get a 70% chance to enemies in full cover. Not even three squads of Chryssalids, all coming at the same time, could take these three down, each could kill one per turn from almost any distance. Unfortunately I did a terror mission and 6 squads of Chryssalids coming at the same time can, and did, take them down. Rest in piece you magnificant bastards, we new game now. Seriously though am I the only one (playing long war) that finds terror missions basically impossible? And like I dont mean that from a "im a noob and dont actually know how to play" kind of impossible I mean the "im in tactically the best possible spot when suddenly every single enemy squad on the map decides to come at me at exactly the same time" kind of impossible.
Holy shit, I did the fishing village mission and have never been so tense for so long. tonight I will surely have chryssalid nightmares
First time I did that mission I felt like captain fucking Kirk. "Right gents, big mission coming up so I need an away team consisting of 5 of my best officers. Bones' in the infirmary with a sprained ankle so we'll take the latest rookie to shore up the numbers as well." He sacrificed himself valiantly(when I ordered him to).

All right gents, got an updated FP Namelist for those of us who enjoy running certain individuals into the line of fire. Here ya go: http://pastebin.com/04cW50Lv And the link to Daiz's Namegenerator: http://daiz.io/xcom-namegen/
I think I'm gonna have to use my money I earn from my job to beef up my computer for both Fallout 4 and XCOM2
I'm already in November of the first year and I have yet to find a Psi Soldier. I had two but they died on the same mission, yet I kept going on because my last save was from over an hour ago, and because I had almost already killed everything in the UFO but the damn Etereal. Now I have to find a Psi soldier because I need him to continue the story.
Google Play says XCom isn't supported on my Asus Transformer tablet, but I'm pretty sure it's beefy enough. Are those store pages kept up to date, or...?
Since XCOM seems to be more proactive this time around, what I'd like to see is a more self-directed difficulty curve. As an example, imagine that instead of waiting for events to happen so you can address them, there's always a bunch of missions on the worldmap that you can do any any time--there's 12 minor missions, which rotate out every 1-5 days, 8 medium missions, which rotate out every 1-5 weeks, and 4 major missions, which rotate out every 1-5 months, maybe with 1 story mission that only changes when you beat it, and that's the state of affairs for the entire game. Starting out, if you try to take on any mission higher than minor, you're going to get swamped, but as you improve XCOM, you're going to naturally move up to the more difficult medium missions--and later major missions--which will offer greater rewards and advance XCOM's goals more dramatically. Naturally, the aliens are going to crack down harder on you as cause more trouble, but will lay off a bit if they think you're no longer a threat. So if it's getting too difficult, you can always lay low and build your strength back up by taking on more minor missions, but if it's too easy, you can always advance to the tougher missions.
Proactive XCOM is gonna make screw-ups hurt even more than before. Normally failures in missions feel like a fact of life. You can't just let the UFO/abduction/terror mission pass you by - you have to send some kind of team to keep a lid on things. So if a few rookies must be sent to their deaths, so be it. But now, if you can pick and choose where to strike, when to take risks, it will all be on your head. You didn't have to send your vets on that last disastrous mission - you could've sent some rookies to fill out the numbers. Or you could've not ordered the mission at all, and done something safer. But you didn't. You got cocky. You thought you could handle it. You were wrong. And now, there are 6 corpses on your head. 6 brave souls gone into the night, never to return. All because of you.
Is it bad that I've only done one out of three terror missions? The ones I didn't do were in Asia, India had already withdrawn so I thought fuck it, not risking my troops for a region that's already a quarter way down the shitter. I initially did try to hold onto China but with 2 interceptors it wasn't going to happen, so I just let it go. I still did normal abduction missions where they presented themselves purely for the resources but the terror missions I didn't see as worth it, wound/lose my best soldiers to slightly dampen the increase of panic that will happen regardless? Long War btw On an unrelated note, I didn't know you needed 10 sectoid corpses for Xenoneurology, and now I'm in August they're barely showing up.

Aw man, I have the council request for 4 ghost grenades - the one they pay you a thousand dollarydoos for - and I'm not going to be able to make it. I only have 12 Seeker corpses (about to go on a UFO raid with two Seekers) and need 16 to make it the order, it expires in a few days. Bummer.
I was surprised to see my name on the list! Too bad my full name doesn't fit though. Thinking of giving the game another whirl now with some fresh recruits. EDIT To spice things up, I'll finally give Long War a try as well; gives me more of a reason to replay!
Welcome to the club, did you lose anyone?
three edit: I only fielded six because we were still beat up from the base assault.
I love xcom but one thing I'd wish they'd improve on the the missing of shots. Like I don't care if a 60% shot misses but when the soldiers miss they miss by fucking meters. I had a soldier try to shoot a muton standing in the middle of a street and he shot 5 tiles wide and hit a car. Are they even trying or what? Firefights would be a lot more tense when you see shots barely miss and hit cover rather than plasma globs being fired several meters above their target
