Wow, The modifications undertaken for mec troopers are extreme. Yeah, sure, she 'volunteered' for that. And to think our doctor limited what genetic mods she did for ethical reasons.
I never make MEC troopers, I feel terrible basically ruining their lives by removing arms and legs with cybernetic ones. At least with gene mods they keep looking normal in some degree, other than those auras around them, but at least they can feel with the arms and legs.

There lives were ruined the moment they joined xcom

No, you see, joining XCom it's just a simple case of "change of live". Becoming a MEC Trooper is just plain Frankenstein stuff.
Edit: To be honest I started to be scared of this doctor with his "A chop here, a chop there." dialog. I don't know how much I can trust him, I won't be surprised if he turns to be one of the bad guys in XCOM 2.

All it takes is one thin man
Nah, I think the psionic abilities and genetic modifications would enhance your life outside of xcom (assuming you don't get brain tumors, cancers, degeneration and so on)
It's just the mec troopers who are fucked.
I mean, true, they're fucked if they done so while being entirely healthy. But assuming that by plot, this was only done to the troopers close to death, I can see it a worthy sacrifice.
Anyone else think it would be cool if you could take the alien DNA and mix them with your soldiers? As an example the snakes traits?

Your question immediately brought this comic to mind:

I only make critically injured troops into MECs. Of course, if they don't get themselves hurt, i'll have to arrange an...accident to ensure their cooperation.
THE 600 MELD MAN
WE CAN REBUILD HIM, WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY
Welp it was only a matter of time, I knew the 'fan art' would start but ive been informed of the first "original character" of the snake woman.
We are closing on triple herecy

wait
XCOM 2 being all low-tech and stuff doesn't make any sense
they have a flying aircraft carrier
but they can't build anything like a MEC
i don't understand
The XCOM website says that the Avenger is a repurposed supply ship stolen from the aliens.

Weren't naga scalies already a thing long ago?
I had to reaload a save after my whole squad got wipped with a bullshit psistorm after entering the last room.
[sp2]Turns out Ethereal big baddies are weak to critical headshots from plasma snipers. Kinda anticlimatic from what happened the previous time.
At least I got to see my little Carlton save the world. Godspeed you bastard[/sp2]
Weren't naga scalies already a thing long ago?
They've been a thing since forever, theyre in Hindu mythology.
I mean this as in, someone has made a "character" that's them using other peoples 'fanart' of the xcom naga.
Stick something into a game and theres always gonna be someone
The only Humane thing to do is put them out of there, and our collective misery.
Those who consort with XENO FILTH deserve no mercy.
Imagine an old Dr. Vahlen, graduating from expressing horror at how willing EXALT were to play with their troops' DNA, to a commissar-like figure itching for genocide.
I honestly hope that we can use hybrids in XCOM 2. Why?
So they can soak up all of the plasma instead of human soldiers, of course. Operation snek shield is authorized...
I might just go down the same path as I did in EW/LW.
Which is that, when it comes down to Psychic freaks, I only had one in my XCOM.. No one else but the bitch who broke free from a shipping container in that cut-scene.
Gene-mutations basically the same story, as in just one person dedicated for them, but it was mostly because I was favoring the MECH research and development among others.
So, come XCOM 2, and I will most likely have myself a one lonely, hopefully a Muton, as a single-purpose (and often single-service) "shock trooper" if possible :v:

I think it's stopped being ironic at this point.
2 pages of snaketits and snake people in XCOM discussion and seems like nobody interested that the mod tools for XCOM 2 will be the fucking UDK with all game script and assets in it. I predict we WILL get a third-person shooter out of this, one day we will. I also expect to see a lot of ported models from other games. The potential is enormours holy shit Firaxis.

Enforcer remake, HERE WE GO!
I hope they expand the soldier recruitment so that you can actually have an XCOM that is made up mostly out of Islamist insurgents or their successors. They'll never complain about a lack of morale or the level of danger a mission has, I tell you. :v:

Nah, I'm excited about that, but I don't know shit about it and will just be seeing what other people make with it.
it would be amazing to have a tps/rts hybrid wherein you can issue commands then assume control of one of your squadmates
a.k.a what everybody was expecting The Bureau: XCOM Declassified to be? Not saying it's that bad or anything, I personally liked it but didn't finish, but now people can make their own vision of TPS/FPS XCOM and maybe Firaxis will even learn a thing or two from what people want and take it further in a couple of years?

The only greater and more honorable sacrifice being death in combat.
What do you guys think the Fifth class will be?
Cyborgs, Psi, aliens or Officers?
I'd love me some kind of officers that function as badass teamleaders.
I'd love me some kind of officers that function as badass teamleaders.
True but it think that could function better passively like it did in X-com rather than its own class.
True but it think that could function better passively like it did in X-com rather than its own class.
Yeah, or a two tier system of class and role, so you have guys who are support/sniper/assault psion/officer/MEC or whatever.
it would be amazing to have a tps/rts hybrid wherein you can issue commands then assume control of one of your squadmates
Like the old Dungeon Keeper possession feature. Issue general orders, then take control of a specific dude when something requires a personal touch, or the AI is too thick to notice a wonderful opportunity.
