If people are wanting to buy XCOM I recommend getting the complete pack since it includes Enemy Within which doesn't seem to be available on its own at a discounted price http://store.steampowered.com/sub/37429/ [editline]1st June 2015[/editline]
Enemy within is an amazing expansion but hold off on playing it till you've beaten the game at least once. Elite soldier pack was some pre-order cosmetics, pass Unless you want to give everyone Guile hair(all the soldiers in the very first xcom had Guile hair) Slingshot it pretty meh, you get a free middle range soldier and some earlier access to gear that typically can only be obtained super late-game, the missions are very hard though.
Eh I'd say EW slides in to vanilla easy enough that you don't need to do more than one game. Completing EW before LW is a must though
I wonder how they're going to handle recruiting in this? You can't really levy from nations anymore. I hope it's like some of the Metal Gear games where you can kidnap enemies and send them back to your base to convert them.
Trailer did have the XCOM operatives taking out of the enemy HUMAN soldiers out peacefully. So it is possible that you will be able to do that. Maybe ARC thrower v2
Also looting system, woo. Hope it comes with a full grid inventory. There's a screenshot of a jungle map, I'm sure it's not going to be just cities.
where are you getting this info

Wait fully moddable? If they have McCann as the guy doing the music, its gonna be sweet but I'd love to be able to create my own tracks. [editline]1st June 2015[/editline] Also I'm glad they went with UFO Afterlight sorta thing where while the Humans are able to beat them back or at least halt them, the damage done is so bad you end up with a mountain of refugees.
Personally it looks more like a re-doing of Xcom Apocalypse to me. The way you have the full-body scanners and very future-tech for civies screams of that unfinished diamond in the rough to me.
Trailer did have the XCOM operatives taking out of the enemy HUMAN soldiers out peacefully. So it is possible that you will be able to do that. Maybe ARC thrower v2
I'm hoping it's a form of mind control with those helmets they wear, remove the helmets break the link and they have free will to do as they please, otherwise if it's recruiting previous enemies to fight on your side just because they had a change of heart after you capture them seems stupid to me.
Quite frankly I think the Temple Ship was a test. Win or lose, we passed their test and in doing so lost. Hell, the Temple Ship only entered X-Com's awareness because they allowed it, why would they do that? It wouldn't make any sense unless they had an ulterior motive, by destroying it, humanity got the ethereals to jizz their robes and devote all their attention towards this single planet. Plus the Volunteer is still alive, he/she wouldn't have had the ability to save themselves from that blast, so it must have been some higher power within the alien hierarchy, or he somehow managed to teleport himself/herself to another place. Hell Vahlen even says that if the aliens weren't intent on giving XCOM "a fair chance", XCOM would have already lost, if the Ethereals actually invaded, it would have been a 2 Hour War, but they didn't want a 2 hour war, they wanted to test our species for Psionic capability.
The whole point is that regardless of how XCOM ends [sp]Invasion repelled OR council "converted"[/sp] it is obvious that both endings leads up to this "unification" where the Advent control the majority of Humanity. (That small community at the end of the trailer looked like they were separate from the Advent areas.) Either way I just hope we get new tech, new enemies (besides those already shown), more soldier customization, good base mechanic, varied combat zones (not just Advent cities, I'm talking about outland areas etc.) and a really fucking good game.
I hope we get to the point where we can field Titan suits again.
I just can't sell enough dota/tf2 items to get the xcom complete pack, I'm lacking 2 euros. Let's see what else can I scrap from my inventory.
I hope we get to the point where we can field Titan suits again.
Probably in the late game when the ship gets good enough manufacturing faculties to mechanize the operatives, though they'll probably be fielded only in more "open" missions where the environments are spacious and stealth is not a high priority.
The more I look at the screenshots the more I think XCOM won the initial invasion and were defeated by the greater threat the Etherials were worried about. The aliens are different, the technology looks different, the Avenger is an alien transport but it looks nothing like the ships used in the first game, and I highly doubt XCOM could survive for 20 years after being such a pain in the aliens' side. A greater threat who decimated Earth and defeated XCOM swiftly would be much more likely to ignore any remnants hiding in the desert.
Don't think so. In the trailer the statues are of Ethereals and such, implying that they are responsible for the whole "Unification" shit. At a guess, now that they've conquered Earth, they're bringing in troops from farther away/new acquisitions. And ADVENT was almost certainly founded by EXALT collaborating with the Alien invaders. (And with all the people going missing and gene therapy stuff, start expecting to see hybrids/mutant humans as the Ethereals experiment with humanity to unlock its full potential for their use)
Well there is hybrids for sure considering there was one in the trailer.
And ADVENT was almost certainly founded by EXALT collaborating with the Alien invaders.
What makes you say that?

EXALT weren't really friendly with the aliens, they were just using them and their invasion as a means to an end.
I don't think ADVENT is related to EXALT. I'm pretty sure faced with an occupation they would modify their goals, because this way they still seize power (even if they are doing so under the alien overlords) Two reasons suggest it, beyond the above. EXALT and ADVENT are both terms with religious connotations, and both capitalised, suggesting a connection. Secondly, the focus on genetic modification, which is what EXALT was ALL about.
Well there is hybrids for sure considering there was one in the trailer.
Was there?
The Uber Ethereal mentions how they were cast out from their people. I'm guessing that this means the group on the temple ship were just a small group of outcasts. They were destroyed, but the main group caught wind of what was going on, and decided to come by and occupy earth. Obviously it's ethereals behind this, because of the ethereal propaganda in the trailer. [editline]1st June 2015[/editline]
Was there?
There's the "evolved" sectoid, which seems to be a hybrid for all intents and purposes.
Was there?
Not really, there was the cloaking alien hiding in the shadows. It could be a hybrid, or simply a new alien species. The ADVENT Troopers are just humans, I think. (Maybe Gene-modded? Who knows at this stage)
Not really, there was the cloaking alien hiding in the shadows. It could be a hybrid, or simply a new alien species.
IGN quotes it as an "evolved" Sectoid. Apart from the fact it now glows, is now seven foot tall, and is pink, yep, that's a sectoid. Not likely to be a hybrid, more likely to be selective gene splicing now that they have a foothold and need more powerful (but easily concealed) grunts to command their human lackeys.

(Pink-ish cast is just like Sectoid Commanders of old) If it even is a hybrid, I mean.
I do believe we'll see some Human-Sectoid hybrids (Apocalypse, ho!) but yeah I think the evolved sectoid is just that, an "evolved" (likely forced through gene therapy and splicing, or yeah, could be more of an ethereal-sectoid hybrid) version of the sectoid we all know and love. We'll get the good old fashioned Human-Sectoids as people to save and use as squaddies if we get them at all, hopefully. I'm interested to see how they'd make them look now that we're in the golden age of not pixelated sprites.
I hope the barracks section of the base gets its own advisor character like Shen or Vahlen. It could be cool to have a character that's a grizzled old veteran from the original incarnation of Xcom being tasked with training up rookie freedom fighters.
Exalt didnt really look like they wanted to work WITH the aliens though to me. It would be way cooler if they were working in a different way but not with the aliens but I really doubt it to be completely honest.

Can't say I'd object.
van doorn was a fucking pussie "Not fair if I have all the fun" my ass, you didn't do shit even your army guy didn't do anything, and he said he'd get us back to our aircraft
van doorn was a fucking pussie "Not fair if I have all the fun" my ass, you didn't do shit even your army guy didn't do anything, and he said he'd get us back to our aircraft
You just saw him after after his group was defeated. I imagine they made a surprisingly good showing of themselves after the thin men hit them but they got overrun none the less.
Problem with van doorn, Zhang and the [del]french girl[/del] Annette. All of them can die. Not saying they could not be the barracks go between but if we're having our actions carry over then it does present a bit of a retcon if a who we had die gets resurected.
