dude this game is tons of fun, glad i bought this
I bought this game 48 hours ago. I've racked up 14 hours already. [editline]14th June 2015[/editline] After a squad of six rookies were fucking faceraped by a small scout filled with Mutons and three commanders, my Champ Team attacked a different UFO and captured two commanders in the last turn. That is satisfying revenge. The probing tables have turned, assholes.
For anyone playing Long War they might wanna take a look at this so that your rookies don't end up completely useless http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/569/?
I hope they add standardized uniforms in XCOM 2 so you can favorite a certain combination and have all your new soldiers wear it by default.
It taunts me, that you can kill some units such as cyberdisks, drones and mechs, and it will tell you that their weapon was destroyed. You can't get their weapon, why would you tell me this? Unless maybe we were supposed to get their weapon and the feature was later canceled.

Every unit that has a ranged attack has its own weapon, however you can only obtain the weapon of organic enemies since they are the only ones that can be Stunned and you can detach their weapon without it self-destroying.

I'm pretty sure you can use recovered plasma grenades without research though, but there's a foundry project that converts all default frags into plasma later on.
I don't see the point in that. Plasma grenades are common enough, why spend valuable funds on upgrading them? Is it so that rookies can use them when [sp] aliens attack[/sp]? Tea guy. Knew that. But I was talking about the awesome weapons you can't get. Notably the yellow firing energy weapons used by the drone/cyberdisk, and the plasma cannons attached to the mechtoid. Is it because that would circumvent the extreme prices of late game items? (plasma rifles are easy to get. A plasma sniper is looking at over 200 cash for me now, and advanced armours are brutal things too.
recovered plasma weapons are linked to research so as not to ruin the pacing of the game and also to provide an additional incentive to capturing aliens aside from autopsies and interrogation it should be fairly obvious that buying your own weapons is preferable in multiple ways to capturing them [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] idk why you cant have mechtoid guns. why is the sky blue?
idk why you cant have mechtoid guns. why is the sky blue?
Because of solar radiation being diffused by the sky and because of the atmospheric water absorption band?
I've had the most devastating thing happen, and it's entirely my fault. I was playing classic ironman, my run was going well, I go to quit a game mid fight cause I was done playing. I accidentally hit abort mission instead because I wasn't thinking/quit is usually at the bottom in other games. Rest in peace my best soldiers, your skyranger just left you to die for no reason. well then, time to start over!
i just picked up XCOM on the steam sale my first mission is a landed supply barge my first activation is a six-outsider pod quit and restart campagin
Why are you playing Long War? Have you played vanilla?
i'm playing long war because i'm way more familiar with it from the beaglerush videos. even if the vanilla game is easier, i feel like it'd be almost too foreign to me. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] if that is actively a terrible idea, i'm open to advice

[editline]13th June 2015[/editline] if that is actively a terrible idea, i'm open to advice
Its actively a terrible idea, I would strongly recommend you do one playthrough, or hell, at least half a playthrough of vanilla before you try the basket of bullshit and difficulty that is Long War
Its actively a terrible idea, I would strongly recommend you do one playthrough, or hell, at least half a playthrough of vanilla before you try the basket of bullshit and difficulty that is Long War
even on lower difficulties?
even on lower difficulties?
YES!

[editline]13th June 2015[/editline] if that is actively a terrible idea, i'm open to advice
Remember, Beaglerushes job is literally to play XCOM, he eats, sleeps and breathes the shit. He's been playing it for the last 3 years, beating vanilla Impossible Ironman, gone through every version of Long War, and is only now just about to finish an Ironman Impossible Long War campaign on camera. Even Solomon said that XCOM EW is a tutorial for Long War.
i'll uninstall LW and give that a try then. thanks
Because of solar radiation being diffused by the sky and because of the atmospheric water absorption band?
wrong it's because blue is the lightest kind of air and thus floats to the top of the sky
i'll uninstall LW and give that a try then. thanks
Yeah, Long War is not a fucking joke. Even on the lowest difficulty setting I get my ass handed to me sometimes. Hell, in one of my Normal Long War campaign, I lost within a couple hours. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] Especially the Thin Men in Long War. Fuck LW Thin Men.
There's a reason why even I, a lady who willingly plays TFTD, stay away from LW.
The Devs are idiots when it comes to balance, and that fact is what keeps me away from LW, because despite the majority of the changes they make being great, they can't balance for shit.

I'd punch my computer screen. And the excuse of 'Its XCOM' is the worst 'git gud' excuse I've ever heard.
I don't think its horribly unbalanced(outside of the air game and Thin Mints), you just need to go into games with a different mindset, like grenades are never a bad idea no matter what Vahlen says in LW, you need to plan out skill trees as opposed to taking them as they come, always make sure to be looking out for your rookies(which that last mod I posted helps with) and you need to prepare more in general like thinking if you need to bring your A-Team on a downed scout as opposed to something else.

It takes 4 interceptors to shoot down 1 small UFO...
Those moments where your last character goes into dash territory, and uncovers four chryssalids, a cyber disk and all it's drones. Just beautiful. The free turn that they get when you discover them is a real bitch.
There are two kinds of X-COM players Those who have dashed and revealed a group, and fucking liars
There are two kinds of X-COM players Those who have dashed and revealed a group, and fucking liars
Note to self- get the whole group in position before opening a shield door. Because shield doors are actually sight blocks and will keep you safe
Also, i Seem to be getting murphy's law with plasma rifles. I'm trying to capture them since buying them outright is horribly expensive. Can capture mutton at no risk to allies? Light plasma rifle. Mutton carrying the standard plasma rifle? It is risky and would sacrifice multiple lives. Also, it doesn't help that my soldiers often pick the wrong route. THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO DO THIS: 1- Go around the room filled with enemies, out of view from any overwatch or enemy activations 2- Run straight through, killing yourself or ruining everything. It's the damn shield doors I tell you. Who thought it'd be a good idea to use doors that disappear when touched. They might as well be curtains.
Common XCOM Lingo Translated: 100% Chance to Hit -> 100% Chance to Hit 95% Chance to Hit -> 50% Chance to Hit 50% Chance to Hit -> 0% Chance to Hit 25% Chance to Hit -> 75% Chance to Hit 2% Chance to Hit -> 100% Chance to Hit Alien on Overwatch -> Prepare for Damage Human on Overwatch -> 50% Chance to Hit Alien Plasma Pistol -> Alien Long Range Plasma Sniper Rifle Alien Plasma Carbine -> Alien Super Long Range Plasma Sniper Rifle Exact Damage You Need -> 1 Damage Less Than You Need Tall Men -> Obnoxious Organic Area Denial Mines And that's all that comes to mind. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but 50% never feels like 50% in this game.
