They should have gave Exalt SHIVS. Possibly (maybe) mecs.
Also, do outsiders disappear forever?
Is there any way to get Chilong Chang? I just got the Council Mission for the China man, but I wanted to roll the time just a bit before entering mission, but I fucking missed it.
So, is there any way to get him back? He's the best infantry out there and FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

This is so fucking painful.

If you fail to take the first council mission for that dlc you don't get another chance to do it again or unlock the others, sorry man.
lol wtf at Zhang's escort mission in LW
It's early game and you expect me to kill 20 thin mints while they constantly skydrop behind me and 1 shot my escort? or 1 shot my escort from the entire map distance away?
I've been trying to avoid save-scumming and only full-restarting missions, but I have a feeling this is going to be a fun mission to rig.
it's overlooked a lot but the dlc for XCOM were terrible
probably my favorite aspect of long war after increased squad size is that it adds those maps to the regular rotation tho

I can't remember but did the mission have chrysalids? Because last time I played it in LW, just when I thought nothing could go wrong, chrysalids showed up.
It's still doable without big issues, though, what you want to do is basically spread everyone out to the width of the map but progress very tightly forwards, inch by inch, and as soon as there's a single contact HALT EVERYTHING until the map is clear again, then go back to very slow crawl where ideally EVERYONE is on overwatch.
Remember, you get overwatch shots as soon as the alien drops down, which is often into open space.
Head down and almost 20 tiles away, he's been one-shotted on 8 different occasions now. This is fun.

This is physically impossible as there are about 9 thin mints, 2 squids, and 1 chrysalid on the map with 1-3 thin mints spawning every single turn. I've tried a few slow-crawl approaches and I can't keep up with the reinforcement spam. (They're infinite, right?)
I've tried hugging a side, and I've tried a bee-line down the middle. If I'm a single inch out of line they one-shot the escort and gg no re.

Bunker down, take the high ground, let them come to you, liberal use of explosives to remove enemy cover. Its how i got through that mission with just one gravely wounded.

Huh? Are you sure they spawn indefinitely every turn?
I could have sworn they spawned like, every third, or only when I moved far enough or something?
I definitely did beat it crawling, but it WAS pain in the ass for sure.
The rain of Thin Mints has stopped. Mission Successful.
RIP: XENOFUCKER-2, you shall be rebuilt in glory anew.
How well equipped do I need to be for the Alien Base? I've got Titan Armor and all the plasma stuff researched but I've only produced one of each.

TBH, Alien Base isn't that hard. You can get through it with a bunch of level-1 Shivs.
Weird thing about alien base is that it actually becomes harder if you grind for a while beforehand. After a certain number of months pass it switches out the map for one where you have less cover and lower ground. ofc if you grind hard enough you'll stomp through it anyway.

I have never heard about this before. So there are two base maps?
I have never heard about this before. So there are two base maps?
Actually looking at the wiki now, it's apparently randomly chosen, so I guess it's not based on the time you take to do the mission after all. There are two base maps, however. You can tell which one you're getting by looking at the map graphic on the loading screen, as one of the layouts is in an L-shape, while the other is not.

That's interesting, I've never seen an L shaped base,
I feel like I've gotten some kind of problem. I've got all the satellites, the fighters, a full base, the entirety of research ( still some foundry left). All the high tier weapons. I've fallen behind on psi soldiers (I do have a potential volunteer though) and I've not realy explored the mec troopers (I don't have the meld for a third level one. Mimetic skin took too much)
But the thing is... I kinda wish there were more. Weapons beyond plasma weapons. Ships beyond Firestorms, armour beyond psi... Y'know how dragonball z has this issue where everything keeps upping it's power level with no reasonably upper limit? That.

Well, you can always try Long War after you finish Vanilla. It has 5 weapon techs and more armor types.

I've read about this as well but, I've never in my life gotten this "L-Shape" base. It's always been the straight line one. You start off at the pods, move onto the canisters of food, surgeries and then the final room.

That's what makes Long War great. It takes the two tiers of EGGSALT weapons and pushes them to the lowest tier, the early ones becoming the normal ballistic weapons, the upper ones becoming beam lasers, old lasers becoming pulse lasers, and old original XCOM ballistic weapons becoming gauss. You can also upgrade SHIVs with stuff and things like that, so there's lot more stuff to research and explore (and far less resources you can spare for doing so because jesus christ the satellite is gone again and if that SHIV isn't repaired by the next terror mission EVERYONE GONNA DIE)
So I tried the fishing village level...

[sp] I tried to wait for the chrysalids to stop spawning for a turn.[/sp]
Didn't know you can rename SHIVs - in EU when I tried to find how I couldn't, it doesn't have any customisation options at all.
It might be LW thing as you can actually also give them various upgrades and replace their weapons.
Reminder, XCOM 2 gameplay reveal at IGN, 11:30pm (GMT), today.
Oooh man, these are gonna be some really long 6 hours.
After 31 hours of grueling RNG tears and distilled fuckyou, I've finished my first game of xcom on normal without expansion. Here are some highlights.

Rest in fragments Bettini and Okamoto, you glorious violent bitches. Really wish they survived until psi training, they died recovering the device.

Shit, that's past midnight for me I have exams next two days in a row. That's unfair.
i remember the first time i beat vanilla, my sniper 1 shot that main ethereal and that beat the game and i was confused for a bit as the cut scene started playing
ayy...lmao?
also are the upgraded fusion rocket lauchers on heavies the best way to take out those robot walkers? (not the ones with the greys, but the other ones)

Huh, maybe the wiki's wrong, maybe it's not random, and you only get the L base if you rush Base Assault.

actually the best way at destroying these is screaming loudly and shooting them with everything and anything at your disposal
Just got XCOM with all the DLC and stuff after playing for a while through my friend's account (family sharing). I decided to mod up my game because it seems like that's what all the cool kids are doing and 8 hours into my Long War campaign, I've only lost 2 rookies and accidentally built my officer training school over the steam vent instead of a thermo generator. Combat's not that bad if you just abuse overwatch.
