Undercover vending machine MEC, I've been saying this forever
The 5th class is clearly SHIV 2.0.
The Avenger is the 5th class, and you can call it to fly in and tactically squash a square mile of land
i'm assuming the specialist is gonna be XCOM 2's heavy so i really have no idea what the 5th class is gonna be

combat veterinarian?
bard
They will probably reintroduce something akin to MECs with a bigass DLC like with EW.

Please don't make fun of me, but what I think would be incredibly cool, is ability to actually get some aliens to fight on your side with varying degree of diplomacy or just modifying them for it.
Think about it, the game is meant to be about getting a rise out of people, and after all, the Ethereals are the only "ruling class" alien, the others are basically vassal species at best, tools stripped of free will at worst. Imagine if you could capture a thin mint and convince them to fight for your cause with promise of thin mints getting all their freedom if they help you beet the Ethereals, or just stunning some jetpackers and reprogramming their heavily cybernetic brains.
Chrysalid squad go
I imagine Chrysalids are the one species impossible to really get on with. On that note tho I think it would be hella cool if they also sometimes turned on the aliens.
I am really unsure if we will see Chrysalids in XCOM2 though, they are really hard to justify as a peacekeeping unit or anything like that :v:
i'm not so sure thin men are the best candidates for recruitment either
You're only bringing this up because you want to horde all the sneks for yourself and indoctrinate them.
You can't fool us, Xenolover.

In maps outside of cities it'd be neat to meet wild Chrysalids
that wuld b siq
i have a hunch that chrysalids will be back. too unique from a gameplay perspective to drop them entirely.
at worst i think we'll see something equivalent

Evolved sectoids can apparently control corpses with their psychic powers now, which is stealing abilities from chrysalids a bit. As annoying as they can be sometimes I hope they're back too though.

Look, LW, I'm all for difficulty. But spam isn't difficulty, it's fucking boring. I literally couldn't kill them all in the turns provided, and near the last one, they all scooty-bootied above my head and started magic flanking everything. fml
(I know it was a fluke. On a mission reset, now they're all scattered and it's an uphill fight, but at least it's fucking plausible.)
Cryssalids are definitely possible for XCOM 2. There's jungle environments, snow environments, desert environments, plenty of places away from their cities. More importantly, they talked about rebel encampments, which would be perfect targets for cryssalid attacks. It would be totally awesome if they had a Nova Prospekt style assault on ADVENT, where you release the cryssalids on an ADVENT base and guide them through by opening doors, all while staying hidden yourself so you don't get eaten by the swarm.
Hmm. I can kinda imagine the cryssalids controlable in a similar way to antlion guardians being controled in half life (admit it. It'd be fucking cool) or perhaps you could somehow create a device that mimics the way cryssashits communicate, gaining control of all of them.
Things that would seriously, seriously be cool
- Capturing enemy robots and reprograming them.
- Being able to field MECS when you've conquered some amount of territory. It shouldn't be an early game thing like enemy unknown.
Geneticaly modifiying your soldiers. I loved the stuff you could do with them (though mimetic skin was too powerful and costed too much. Ideally, the effect should have been weaker and the cost less severe) My favorite was muscle fiber for the superjump, though I did love using the 'nope' psi effects too. never really got the effects of the chest augs though.
TBH only scenario where I could see Chryssalids in XCOM2 would either be in attacks against XCOM (as mentioned above) or late game when the aliens don't give a fuck about collateral damage.

As for outland missions, my bet is on the Floaters. They'd fit really well as wasteland scouts IMO, alongside with Seekers and maybe some kind of ADVENT scout forces.
Someone in this thread suggested that the aliens could use chryssalids for terror attacks on the humans not living in the megacities to force them to move. Worked once so maybe it'll work again?
What i'm really afraid of is what modifications they have done to the chryssalid. In EU it mentions that they were little more than insects before they were uplifted, so what has 30 years done to them?
Have they announced that MECs aren't in the game at all or just that XCOM won't start out with them? I'd be retarded for them to get rid of them entirely, they're super fun.
It would be nice if there were encampments or even cities that XCOM could establish or reclaim for bonus resources/funds, but by establishing them they are vulnerable to being targeted by the ADVENT.
I want exalt to be in Xcom 2
As genuine terrorists who's blame all happens to go to you.
The use of Chryssalids would probably be a pretty poor choice for an alien front attempting to masquerade as a mostly benevolent government considering the things are halfway to being wild animals (or wild insects?). They'd probably be just as likely to try to impregneat a nearby civ as they would an XCOM fugitive, and I don't imagine most civs have good memories of the things from the terror attacks 20 years ago (if XCOM even lasted until terror attacks).
My guess is that the more grotesque aliens will only be seen in the wastelands and alien bases, up until a possible point where XCOM gains enough sway to be a credible threat and the aliens get desperate enough to let things like Chryssalids into cities.
I imagine there will come a point in which you have enough popular support and manpower to start becoming a serious threat to the alien regime. At that point, it is entirely reasonable that the kid gloves will come off and the aliens will start deploying everything they've got, including 'lids.
I'm all for the procedural generation of the cities, its a really neat concept to keep the game interesting for longer, but at this point I'd much rather see the other landscapes that were promised. Hopefully they'll use the same system?
What if Chrysalids were used like attack dogs?
As opposed to fire-and-forget terror units.
Armies have been known to use attack dogs, I could see an alien army using trained attack bugs.

Maybe the alien government has started using them like the Combine uses Headcrabs, shelling remote areas to completely fuck up any resistance and spread the fear of zombification for resisting.
