I can't wait until we start seeing some documentation and videos of the mod tools in action. It's been some time since I've heard of a AAA title bragging about this much freedom.

But they all brag heavily about player choice and freedom.
Never imagined mutons to look anything like that. (Even though this is a more modified version). Weren't they described as pretty featureless under that armour and all looking identical?
Maybe the alien government has started using them like the Combine uses Headcrabs, shelling remote areas to completely fuck up any resistance and spread the fear of zombification for resisting.
This seems like the best comparison, although the fact that 'lids can breed so much faster if left unchecked (at least from what I've seen in HL) I honestly think they'd be used pretty sparingly. The Newfoundland mission has honestly convinced me that if left unchecked Chryssalids could potentially overrun an entire planet or at least any landlocked continent. The damn things need a genetic failsafe built into them or something because JESUS CHRIST THEY WERE INCUBATING IN A WHALE.
But they all brag heavily about player choice and freedom.
I think he's talking about mod development.
As for the Chrysalid argument, I'd be interested in seeing the ecological impact of an outbreak. In Newfoundland they mention [sp]The whale hive could devastate humanity[/sp] so I'd be interested in seeing what impact this has on the biosphere, particularly on the survival of outlying human settlements.
[editline]18th June 2015[/editline]
I would honestly read a study of the environmental impact of chrysalids as an invasive species, hell I'd do it for any fictional alien.

They say berserkers share the "same structure" as normal mutons. That could be interpreted as general anatomic similarities, with specific features like how their face or skin looks being different. Most of their body is covered in armor/helmet after all, we can't see much of them. I'd say that the look of the new berserker is fairly reasonable given the extensive genetic changes.

This brings up another valid question: what does a berserker toothbrush look like?

Like you.
I wonder if they'll give us like multiple ways of handling how the public sees XCOM, like you can either do the 'good-guy' way and focus on saving people while spreading the truth or you could go full ISISCOM and just hijack old nuke silos and bomb the crap out of the ADVENT with disregard for the public opinion.
[editline]19th June 2015[/editline]
I also hope we'll have at least one mission were you venture into the old XCOM base.
Did anyone else find it weird how Berzerker punches were really, REALLY quiet? Like they'd let out a big roar and charge one of your soldiers, do a biiiiig ass windup and smash with all their might... And only made a small thump noise when they obliterated your dudes

Maybe that'll be the "Doom Counter" for this one? If you become too monstrous in the populace's eyes, they eventually report all your operative cells to Advent.
I want exalt to be in Xcom 2
As genuine terrorists who's blame all happens to go to you.
I'd like to team up with them at least in an enemy of my enemy style. They fought against the aliens as well, don't see why they would have given up. And seeing as they were funded by civilians, not governments, you'd imagine they'd be able to hide better in the post-takeover world than XCOM.
So is there any news on if we get MEC's again or not.
Better not remove my fucking cyber-soldier-dude-robot-with-big-guns
Are the humans being uplifted an entirely bad thing? We've got potential. Being weaker than thin men(snakes) and mutons, but much smarter than the two (actualy, thin men aren't mutton level stupid and might be human equal, but they can't psi) and as capable as sectoids and with some modification ethereals in the brain/psi department.
for example the clear blood might make us biologically better. It might grant us some kind of advantage. (and they're taking steps to preserve our good looks, Hurray) and maybe everyone will get psi powers and become jedi. Hurrah.
Then again, they did fuck up the muton's face considerably in 30 years (and it was bad the first time they were encountered) so maybe they'l fuck the human appearance up when they're all firmly within grasp.

And honestly, that's good.

But what about my kickass robot dude with a flamethrower strapped to his arm? :(
Eh. We get some new toys so I guess it's allright.

So I assume no gene modding as well?
[editline]19th June 2015[/editline]
This is gonna make beaglerush pretty sad :(
Wait, The developer didn't actually say that (or did he. Source?) just that you got beat hard, haven't researched shit, and that you won't be starting with alien technology. It seems like the author of that article is jumping the gun. (unless of course he genuinely outright said there'd be no MECs or meld.)
That's a huge bummer for me, MECs are my most favourite part of the recent XCOM.
Maybe you will be able to do some bit more conservative level of mechanization, like normal-sized body implants ala Deus Ex.
There's always the inevitable possibility of it coming with DLC again...
Why is that whenever I try to download Long War 15d from nexus the file I get is named 14d?

I'm assuming those quoted bits are from Garth himself, but he did already mentioned how XCOM didn't progress much at all, if any to begin with. Which means that XCOM couldn't get past ballistics, then there is 0 hope for MECs and Meld.
Well it's not like you start with meld or MECs in XCOM either. It's possible it's stuff you don't get at start, but get as you play, again.
I'm wondering if, as part of customisation or maybe just a 'oh god I've abused my colonel', we can give robotic parts to our soldiers without turning them to mecs. Maybe a robotic arm, a cybernetic eye. Perhaps later we can go give that arm hidden machineguns, death lasers and rocket launchers (which are obtainable to healthy troops, they're just not as stylish and have to be implemented through means like goggles or a sidearm.
Alright, the cool features are wishful thinking and something for modders to do. But the amputation part could be interesting, I mean, the enemies have fucking plasma cannons. You're not keeping an arm from something that makes heavy caliber weapons look silly.

As long as I can do this and rename my main dude Jaron Namir and my sprinter Yelena Federova, I'll be happy.

They oopsed.
No MECs, No Meld

That journalist is completely bullshitting, the devs don't say that anywhere. By their logic there's no laser weapons, or plasma weapons, and the whole game is with ballistic weapons. Obviously the devs were saying that XCOM hadn't developed anything beyond conventional weapons before XCOM 2 started. They've said nothing about what tech gets developed after that.
They oopsed.
So where can I find the actual 15d download?
Wait... Did people not like MECs and meld? They were cool!
While I also like MECs and gene modding, I can understand why they would remove them. I see no realistic way to build MECs on a mobile base, let alone store all the materials needed to build the damn things. Same goes for the genetics. I don't see any way they could pull off something this big without the support of the entire planet to finance and provide materials for XCOM.
just my 2 cents on the matter
