Plan your base as effectively as possible. Ideally, you want satellites and power both in a 2 x2 grid. Base building is the key to winning the game. Don't ignore it in favour of bigger weapons The medkit is the best item. When you've got a choice between countries, always pick the one with the highest panic level. Always pick squadsight for snipers. Always. The left side of support is also largely superior, since medics are better than smoke throwers. The heavy and assault have pretty even sides. You can largely ignore most autopsies. Get the sectoid one for energy weapons though. Then, later on, put two satalites on south america for 'we have ways' which will let you do all of them instantly. You can't capture every type of enemy. If they don't get the blue ring around them when you select a guy with the arc thrower, don't try. It's normaly an awful idea to rush into dark areas when a soldier is alone. Especially if he's one of the last to go on the turn.
Well you say good times. I'm imagining at the time of it's occurrence many words of the cursing variety were thrown around. :v:
I'm pretty sure I defined new words that day.
20,000:1 odds of that happening incredible
20,000:1 odds of that happening incredible
Yeah, that's one way of calling it. More incredibly it had to happen on a Terror mission of all places too. Also I'm fairly sure the odds of that happening are somewhere from about 10000-50000 : 1.
How the heck do you prevent everyone from panicing? I do the missions by the book with 0 dudes dead but around the second month there's always a shitstorm even if I launch one or two satellites.
One country always leaves in the beginning in LW for some reason I think ,lol Also I think one of those major shitstorms brewing on the worldmap is only cool. Scary but cool. Plus if it's come cool country like the USA, you can try to capture that country back later by doing base assault. IIRC you have to build/buy some single-use item from somewhere in Engineering to go attempt at a base capture to get the country back. [editline]1st July 2015[/editline] I did this one save, and with the USA especially. T'was cool.
I never play Ironman Mode in games because inevitably there are bugs, and losing because of bugs is not fun. In my first Alien Base assault one of my soldiers went into bleedout and promptly teleported to the other side of the map where I could not even hope to get a medic to.
Yesterday I discovered OpenXcom and the android port of it and it rocks. Gives me the perfect excuse to finally play the original. The controls can be a little wonky at times, but that is just because I don't have tiny fingers. Any cool mods to get for a sort of "vanilla+" experience? I got the Equal Terms mod (I like it because it sorta makes the game like EW what with adding more ballistic gun types. More realistic too to have them and I like the ufopedia lore the guy wrote up for the guns) and HQ sounds mod. Also any tips for a classic Xcom beginner?

Used to enter "Alien Bases" once those are destroyed the country comes back and starts funding you again.
It's a shame really, I would have LIKED to capture everything. -Cryssalid; Use the functioning hormones/pheromones of the live creatures to discover Hl2's BUGBAIT. -Drone/cyberdisk/seeker Say hello to my new toy (also, their weapons.) -Mechtoid MECtoid. Seriously. There was many a cool tech they had. The psi shield, the twin plasma guns.

Last night a friend and I played a match against each other in Enemy Within. 6v6, Sectoids only. He blasted through most of my squad pretty quick, where it was just my 1 vs his last 3. Two of his were mind-linked, and the one who did the link was behind full cover. My turn comes around, I take a gamble. 25% chance to hit the mind-linked one and kill both. Nailed the shot. Of course his last one still managed to kill me when I had high ground but oh well, I put up a good fight :v:
This is getting crazy Atleast fawn over something with legs that won't snek you to death
You know, considering the other femAlien alternative, at least Snek has it's perks.
Imagine that beserker muton trying to give a blowjob.
Imagine that beserker muton trying to give a blowjob.
Can we please not...

And that bleedout bug is (hot)fixed by immediately saving&quitting and loading in again.
Imagine that beserker muton trying to give a blowjob.
please stop posting shit like this [editline]1st July 2015[/editline] like im here to read about XCOM, not your journey through puberty
I've yet to start puberty, and have the manly build of an ethereal. but someday I shall start puberty, and emerge a muton.

Solution! Block him and stop quoting him because he is trying to be annoying.
I'm pretty sure I defined new words that day.
Casual reminder last time you named a soldier after me, it got promoted to a heavy, a sniper missed his shot and later on the heavy panicked and managed to crit head-shot said sniper stone dead from across the map.
I swear to shit, every time. This place needs to be napalmed hard.
Imagine that beserker muton trying to give a blowjob.
I don't think you've quite got enough of a grasp of how we deal with xenos around here.
You know youre going to lose those psi powers right?
That's how puberty works though. Before puberty you are weak but wise. After puberty you are strong but stupid, and you as a muton are susceptible to being completely controlled by the previous, psionic form of man/alien(children) Sectoids and ethereals have big heads and little bodies. You know what else has big heads and little bodies? Children! This is not a coincidence.
