It seems my break from playing has completely degraded my skill with the game, I'm getting my ass kicked early on in vanilla enemy within. I better get good again before the new one comes out
Holy shit I wasn't expecting this. Just loaded up the new thread and see a new trailer, oh god this is awesome. I don't even like turn-based strategy games, and the only exception is XCOM, which I just love and I have no idea why. I hope there's a larger variety of aliens this time around. Sure there were a good number in EU and EW but I'd like to see more, so I don't just see like two types on one map. I like the idea of lots of human grunts though, augmented by alien troopers in their ranks. Humans are versatile, and the aliens will probably pack a punch.
What if the giant helicarrier at the end of the trailer is a precursor to something new? What if we can do massive assaults with upwards of 12 or more troops on strongholds to take back earth???? Also what if mecs return?

I would assume that enemy within would be built from enemy within, and would therefor have big power armour. Then again, those graphics tell me that my Pc might die. I'm not entirely convinced Xcom needs better graphics. They need a style that conveys information to the player easily, and realism isn't good for that.
I'm interested to see how the procedurally generated maps will work, considering that they tried it with Enemy Unknown and apparently it didn't work very well.
I kinda don't like that. Handcrafted maps are always more fun to play on, even if variety suffers.
So what if the randomly-generated maps are created from hand crafted segments, hmm?
So what if the randomly-generated maps are created from hand crafted segments, hmm?
This is probably exactly what they'll have. Also, here's hoping that one of the possible game setting is unlocking tile limitations, so I can end up on a map consisting entirely of roads.
You know seeing how XCOM is now a guerrilla force and they have to take every advantage possible through propaganda, convert people to their cause and character customization will most likely have changeable colors I plan to create... The Brotherhood of Nod. I can almost imagine how I would cause terror to the city, convince the majority population to arm themselves in order to fight Advent, utilize hit and run tactics. Peace Through Power.
Far-fetched idea, but what if other races, like ours, have small pockets of resistance to what is assumed to be an empire? What if we not only need human help, but alien aswell? Again, its a longshot. I'm just really fucking excited to see how this turns out.
I saw that the soldiers still have their country's badge on their back, I wonder if that's just to remind them of where they came from and what they've lost, or if they are secretly backed by the remnants of the old governments?
Could be both, could be either, could vary from operative to operative.
Human population could be radically shifted around the planet, what with tides of refugees apperantly not being uncommon. Maybe some kind of periodic forced relocation to get the population from ever getting comfortable with one another. Xcom Guerrillas might wear their flags as both a sign of personal identity as well as being ivocative of the image of old Xcom.

Has anyone considered recycled uniforms?
I wonder if I'm the only one who's hoping for some sort of co-op gameplay. It should be completely optional of course, but I've been longing to share the XCOM experience side-by-side with a friend.
I always thought the aliens in EU were like some sort of rebel group the way they talked in the end. You know, [sp]all that shit about uplifting humans and testing and preparing them. I get that the Ethereals obviously wanted to use them as hosts, but I thought it was that they could use the humans as a weapon to defeat a much larger force chasing them. But when XCOM blasted the ethereal leaders away, they ruined their chances (even though they'd have been subjugated under Ethereal rule) of surviving a much bigger and much worse invasion.[/sp]
I'm all excited. Now I wanna play the EW and rename all my troops after the troops in SST and give them the grey uniforms. Their nicknames just being corny references to other movies.
(Julian Gollop developed the original XCOM and Apocalypse, and he wasn't a big fan of the Thin Men in the reboot.)
Let's be honest, I don't think anyone was a big fan of the Thin Men after the antics they come out with.
Let's be honest, I don't think anyone was a big fan of the Thin Men after the antics they come out with.
Fuck Thin Men.
anyone know how to restore the sleeves for all the stupid looking but powerful armors in LW?
The safest way it the Conga Line. Move everyone in a straight line for one action and overwatch with everyone.
But then one wee little sectoid triggers everyone on overwatch, and then the rest of the enemies beat the shit out of you :c
Let's be honest, I don't think anyone was a big fan of the Thin Men after the antics they come out with.
After reinstalling XCOM and loading my last save I'm slightly less perturbed by the Thin Men and more perturbed by the fact that of the 5 squaddies and 6 rookies I have left, none of them are capable of hitting a Seeker strangling a teammate the next tile over I've never seen such a quick series of code blacks through the rite of "my men cannot fucking hit dick" in all my time of XCOM lmao
anyone know how to restore the sleeves for all the stupid looking but powerful armors in LW?
Here you go. http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/411/? Also, did anyone else notice that the advent security helmets are pretty much identical to muton elite helmets?
