Don't even get me on how the smoke doesn't include everything inside the red zone.
iirc this is a vanilla thing where the area affected by smoke is actually just selecting a hidden set of discreet tiles and the circle is a bad approximation of what is affected
eg, where blue is the smoke overlay, red are the tiles affected, and green is where your squad gets no buff despite being apparently in the aoe

Huh, didn't notice it in vanilla. Then again in vanilla you don't really bunch up 5-6 soldiers in 1 spot so I guess it's not that noticeable.
Completed the X-COM Base Defense mission and I only lost one soldier, that being one of the low health base defenders

I dunno that sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
I am playing pussymode Long War with Bronze Man (can only do full restarts of missions, no other way of reverting) with stuff like no breakdowns and Quick and Dirty (small ufos have 6-7 instead of 10 aliens).
Everything has been going good and dandy until this fucking Exalt introduction mission where a military convoy got ambushed by exalt, and lmaos rolled in. You have to cross the map, cleaning up limited number of lmaos but once you pick up the exalt survivor, thin mints start raining from the sky like some nightmare Tictac commercial.
I have already restarted like 6 times and I just can't finish it no matter what. The layout is just so shit and it's real pain in ass against thin mints who can hop to roofs and gas the little relevant cover there is. Also apparently the survivor has like 0 def because reaction shots snipe him reliably from all the way across the map.
I hate that mission in Long War. My suggestion would be to leave 3 people on the first roof after you've swept the map and are ready for the survivor. That way when the thin mints start raining you can kill a bunch of them while they land around you.
You need to kill all xrays after you evac the survivor, so make sure you try and keep your team at full health because you'll have to sweep up a couple of thin mints you left behind by the second building.

Yeah. Do this. Especially if you have any Assault soldiers in your squad.
You could also make the EXALT survivor pass the APC's instead of going through the buildings along with one or two squad members to give him some backup.

I got disapointed with that one because one of the base defenders leveled up twice and I couldn't keep her.
My game crashes with "Steam servers could not handle your request" every time I receive a facebook message. Someone tell me I'm not the only one that this happens to
Huh? That makes no sense. Anyway why don't you just turn facebook off?

Because I was doing the battleship power conduit mission and it crashed right after I heard the fb ping. Asked my friend to send me a few more messages after I restarted the game and I pretty confirmed this shit was happpening to me.
And of course, no friends are gonna interrupt saving humanity from now on.

I've had that mission crash on me a fair number of times. I don't have Facebook though.
Alright, I'm just gonna go on a little rant here, cause I really wanna vent right about now.
I reached a point where I got fed up with Long War's BS. I'm still in June, barely got Laser rifles out cause I had to relocate my resources on fighting 5 raiders in 1 month on Japan and still failed to protect my satellite after all that nonsense, and relocated to North America. And throughout, for some reason, all the enemies have way more health than I've remembered in previous Long War runs, just shelling me with 9 HP Thinmen/Floaters and 15 HP Mutons.
My lastest mission was a "Moderate" abduction. And that word was as full of holes as swiss cheese. Since when does Moderate mean 7 floaters, 3 mutons and 4 thinmen? And I didn't even bring an engineer or a Rocketeer on that mission, cause I wasn't excepting a SWARMING mission.
I want a proper challenge of a mod, really. Vanilla becomes easy when you learn the ropes, but Long War just straight up lies to you on everything. The mod itself doesn't even function within it's own rules.

I remember watching the thread which made this in real time.
What difficulty are you playing on?
Impossible, but that's what I've played on until this point. I've never had such early high health enemies though. The only problem I've had in previous versions is the Base Defense and that's it. The rest is fine.

Like I said, the modders behind the game are giant dipshits who use the 'gitgud' moniker as a shield and anyone who challenges it ends up getting the same treatment as little boys and being manly, you don't like it? You're not "MANLY ENOUGH".
That's like the thing I hate most about mods that try to rebalance the game, they only end up overtuning the fuck out of everything. It's not just XCOM too, check Skyrim or something and you'll see the modding scene overextend like crazy whenever trying to tweak difficulty.
I understand and apprecciate the idea of making the game more realistic by tweaking how alien abductions and equipment works, but giving all of your soldiers ridiculously low aim and making the aliens have insane fucking stats doesn't really work well no matter what difficulty you play on. I don't think I'm ever going to play Long War or its equivalent in XCOM 2 just because of how ridiculous it seems
What difficulty are you playing it on?
Normal, I'm not even a year in, struggling with laser weapons and thin men + seekers have like 15 HP
[editline]a[/editline]
Like my problem with long war breaks down to 'too many missions too quickly with too low a reward to make them worth it'. I don't want to fight 30 aliens in 1 mission struggles where half the squad is almost wiped out, there's no variety between 'easy' missions and 'hard' missions. I get that some people might like that struggle, but if I'm playing on the lowest difficulty Long War goes to and I'm making smart, tactical decisions then I shouldn't be punished so much.
I just want to remove the dumb HP scaling Long War has so I can have a fighting chance on Normal difficulty.
Bosses having more HP and perks is fine, but your average thinmint grunt shouldn't turn from 'weak piece of shit' to 'literally tougher than my most veteran troops' in 2 months.

This sounds like Terraria balancing. Just when everyone thought "man this way too fucking hard" we get this. You don't even have to play Terraria to understand this is some hardass bullshit.
"1.3.0.3: The Moon Lord's leeching effect has been massively buffed, and he applies a debuff that prevents any healing from weapons.
1.3.0.2: The Moon Lord's hands were both buffed to 25000 HP from previous 15000, and the head from 15000 to 45000"
This sounds like Terraria balancing. Just when everyone thought "man this way too fucking hard" we get this. As much awesome stuff the Long War devs have done for EW, they're only one perspective. Having a bunch of other people's takes at rebalancing and expanding on XCOM 2 will probably make it so that there's a lot more mods that would appeal to a lot more people.
I'm looking forward to the total conversions with series' where you don't advance from ballistic weapons, even though the enemy are all using energy weapons (stargate, Halo, W40k or whatever) Because in those there's this interesting note where the ballistic weapons are more accurate and harder to dodge. It'd probably be much easier to balance.

ayy new comic
So they said they would have a sort of campaign mod building tool right? If so, I'm pretty stoked. I love dicking around with map editors and the like, so being able to do something like that with XCOM is awesome. Especially since, unlike many other map editors, you wouldn't need to mess around with hundreds of triggers since that's just not how XCOM rolls.
If you feel like the missions in Long War end up with too many lmaos, try the Quick and Dirty second wave option, it's meant to reduce the amount of procedural lmaos by 40%. I think you should be able to turn it on even midway through campaign.

I ended up starting a new campaign, getting pods of 6 cloaking lmaos and 3 berserking / impossible to hit for some reason lmaos made it not possible to complete missions anymore.
Why do people refer to aliens as lmaos?
