Thanks to that list of stuff that XCOM operatives are not allowed to do which was posted a few pages back I will now dedicate an entire playthrough of XCOM2 to Commanderism. [editline]10th July 2015[/editline] The great Commandy One provides.
how again is one meant to do the Zhang mission in long war? The one where on end of alien round 1 you find yourself staring into the snide lizard eyes of about 8 thin mints, two of them automatically on both your flanks on a spot you can't sprint to in advance even if you try?
Overwatch, full cover.

Thin Mints do not deserve cover, they deserve exterminatus.
Do they ever stop spawning? Is there a pattern to when and how many times they spawn?
how again is one meant to do the Zhang mission in long war?
by ticking the DLC boxes off when you start your campaign
Do they ever stop spawning? Is there a pattern to when and how many times they spawn?
A certain amount spawns depending on how far up you move Zhang. Keep him in heavy cover out of LOS in the back and overwatch anything that spawns. Fight from cover and such until shit stops spawning. Then move everyone up and repeat. Keep doing this until you win.
I'd absolutely love if someone made a mod for XCOM2 that turned it into Valkyria Chronicles with Lmaos.
I think you'd have an easier time modding Valkyria into XCOM.

That shit drove me wild, guy can actually deal 3 damage with a shitty civilian grade weapon while XCOM flails to get one sectoid down with specialized assault rifles*. *if you have Damage Roulette on

Have they said anything about armor options? I'd love it if there were different armor slots on soldiers instead of one big suit.
Speaking of Zhang, how come he discards his gun after shooting and killing a moving sectoid? That shit drove me wild
He's gotta call self defense, so he's planting the gun on the sectoid.

Is it actually bad to have full satellite coverage over one country? You know, since you don't get abduction missions for them and all that. Wouldn't panic just go up and up nonstop until the country blows up?
He's gotta call self defense, so he's planting the gun on the sectoid.
Smart man. I see now he's preparing for the not too far off future of complete alien domination over Earth. Now they won't be able to pin that one dead sectoid on him when Advent rules everyone.

I assume you mean continent though, as full coverage in one country is one satellite.

Wouldn't panic just go up and up nonstop until the country blows up?
Panic only rises in a nation if you lose a mission on their turf, If you win all the missions panic stays manageable indefinably. I myself normally leave a country with a less useful perk to it without satellites to get abduction missions or rather the bonuses they bring, hopefully ranked soldiers rather than cash or staff. It's the only way to get high ranked recruits and that can be very handy when you can't afford to take rookies out to get ranked and considering abduction missions are pretty easy in the end it means panic never raises too high.

Newbie here. Encountered my first Sectopod during my last play session; boy oh boy was that a wakeup call.
Have to say the tidbits of advice this thread has posted has really helped me. I'm definitely getting better at this game, my EW run has been a lot smoother than my first playthrough [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/111996868/2015-2/Games/2015-07-10_00003.jpg[/t]
Alright so, I'm going for a no-tech run of XCOM:EW. Obviously you gotta research specific things which are objective related: Make Arc Thrower - Capture Xeno - Capture Outsider - Research shard - Research Relay - Firestorm. Those are the only techs I'm researching since you need them to progress the story, so I'm only using things you can afford to do from the beginning without researching anything: Such as grenades, medkits, officer training school, and absolutely no better guns or armor. And I just finished the XCOM Base Defense and fuckin' hell. I lost 1 of my normal guys and 6 blue shirts. Shooting Mectoids with ballistic weapons is a nightmare. Thankfully the overall contingent of enemies is lighter the sooner you get the mission. I haven't even met EXALT yet. Also I'm doing this on Classic Ironman.
