ISISCOM aside, the idea is probably that you don't actually change the soldiers, but just the way they look like to you, The Commander.
http://www.themarysue.com/interview-garth-deangelis-xcom-2-diversity/ Some data on XCOM 2 character design: -Female versions of ADVENT units confirmed - those with a keen ear might have noticed that one of the ADVENT troopers in the demo had a female voice - it was a blink and miss thing though -Viper apparently enhanced with human genetics - choice of female design was inspired by the sexual dimorphism of Terran snakes. I hope that they take a more novel approach to levels like with the crystlsis whale mission it really broke up monotony
lol what the hell. So I'm playing classic mode for the first time (wow this is hard) and I've gotten quite far, anyway I decided to go on a very difficult mission because the countries panic level was at full (like about 4 others). But yeah, there were 3 cyberdisks. I got lucky with 1, destroying it and its drones before it could do any damage on my turn. The second one flew the opposite direction. The third one, came out on their turn, and when it came to my turn I couldn't take it down. So when it came to the aliens turn again it moved towards me and just flat out fucking blew up. [t]http://i.imgur.com/yALmmVo.jpg[/t] It was going this way and as soon as it cleared the gap it just blew up in mid air and dropped off the edge. Save.

Most maps are fully fleshed out in a square or rectangle, but that map is a weird L shape that has no ground on the bottom right of it, so it's like a void. Anything passing through it just dies on the spot. And since only flying units can go there, well, you can make the connection.
Aliens are no match for our secret highway-based death beam system.

If you don't have any near you at the start it's nion impossible to get to any without putting one of your squad right in the jaws of death and just hoping for the best. you either have too many chrysalids to shoot or you're too busy reloading to move up, and god forbid the cyberdick just dropping in at any time normally up in the top left below the broken bridge.

Snipers have sightlines on everything immediately after spawning. Just send somebody forward, and snipe everything.
Gotta be honest, i don't like the look of the MEC's in EW. The look like jellybeans with a head and robotic limbs bolted onto the side. I'd much rather more conventional mechs where the occupant either sit's in side or just has power Armour around them. The small head even with the biggest helmet on just never looks right.
Y'know, if Firaxis said we're not getting MECs since not only is X-COM backwards in terms of tech, but it'd be considered too morally questionable. What if we get MECHs, instead? With conventional cockpits and the ability to be piloted by specifically skilled soldiers, like a recon vehicle? Stuff like this and xeno-recruits are stuff I hope to see at least modded into the game, if they don't appear on release or in later expansions.
Ok I think I'll settle for this. If anyone knows how to make better text or thinks it looks bad please tell me. Despite all my love for lore, I'd be willing to trash it if it meant keeping the variety that MECs and gene mods brought to the game. It was a pretty big hit, atleast for me, to have all those sweet fuckin' options available. Think of the potential too. If MECs and modded operatives were such a good thing in XCOM:EW, how good could they be in an XCOM 2 where they know what felt right with the playerbase? They weren't big game changers, but they were tons of fun to use. MECs punching things are still the best thing in XCOM.
I think the MECs look fine as long as you give them a full helmet, my personal favorite is this one: [t]http://i.imgur.com/2mMPGGR.jpg[/t] Sucks that the targeting hologram thing clips with the helmets though.
[t]http://images.cgames.de/images/idgwpgsgp/bdb/2451535/944x531.jpg[/t] This is the best helmet! Except I only assign it for men, unconditionally. And this helmet I assign for women Or this one for any exceptionally bad-ass women, only the chosen few. And of course, nobody gets a helmet until I have developed new armors to go with them. Otherwise they get simple beans, berets, normal combat helmets, or no hat at all.
I love the berets and beans and baseball hats, especially with headphones, they look 'operators operating operationally' as fuck :v:
I always give my snipers the "Baseball cap and headset" setup because A.) The cap seems like it'd reduce glare on the scope or some shit and B.) The headset makes more sense in my headcanon than the rest of the squad shouting Ayy positions across the map.
That incredibly unpleasant feeling when none of your regular squad members have the Gift. What the fuck do I do now, level Annette?
That incredibly unpleasant feeling when none of your regular squad members have the Gift. What the fuck do I do now, level Annette?
The one who breaks free from a construction container, in a cut-scene? Anyway yea, you should do just that. Personally I only had 1 psychic freak, as well as 1 gene modified freak. Two in total. Other one being Annette iirc.
Never just use your best men all the time. If you've got six colonels and a bunch of squadies, you're doing shit wrong. Related: I was playing a game of payday with pubs. A player with the name 'xcom' was with us. He blew up our objective (that we were defending) and I died in a bathroom. We totaly failed within the first minute. What came to mind was the phrase 'That's XCOM, baby!'
I just beat the game on the first turn against the Turbo Ethereal by shooting him once with a sniper and hitting him for 25. RIP in pizza [sp]the Volunteer aka Rad Dude[/sp]

Just have it act as a vehicle you can customize, and have certain skilled soldiers be able to pilot them separately. This allows X-COM to still be able to punch ayys, and not look evil for mutilating their soldiers a bit. With this, you could have less human-looking mechs, as well. Chicken-legs, and all.
There's nothing in the lore that prevents XCOM from developing MECs in XCOM 2. If they have enough research ability to develop lasers, they have enough research ability to develop MECs, and if they have enough resources to re-purpose an alien cargo ship, they have enough resources to build a couple of MECs. MEC-1s weren't resource or research intensive at all.

A bit too dark for the Men in Black to do, I guess. They seem to be amping up the contrast between "us" and "them", this time. What with ADVENT being pinned as senselessly abusive, and careless in the mutilation of their troopers, while X-COM is represented as careful, trusting, and purely ethical saints. One side abducts without notice, while the other happily accepts recruits. Black and White, Night and Day, Good and Evil, respectively. So just cause they said MECs aren't returning, doesn't mean they can't give us a suspiciously similar substitute like they did with Thin Men and their new equivalent, Vipers. And who could honestly say no to Mecha? Really?
I hope we can equip the sword-wielding class with a chainsaw blade. On that note I hope one of themes the game gives us is trying to tread between benevolent freedom fighters or ISIScom
Maybe late game Power Armor/Exo-Skeleton?
Or just mecha. Why do you refuse mecha?
The Devs certainly have not stated that MECs won't be returning, or implied it in any way. Perhaps you're referring to that garbage article that assumed MECs wouldn't be back because XCOM isn't starting out with the same tech? I honestly can't imagine that they'd animate and balance new ADVENT MECs without giving XCOM some, considering they were one of the most fun parts of EU. Where did you get the impression that XCOM was supposed to be careful, trusting, purely ethical saints? From what I saw, they're terrorists, destroying public works, killing law enforcement, endangering civilians, and causing chaos. The aliens have brought people security and peace. XCOM is effectively trying to destabilize global civilization, and will doubtlessly cause the indirect deaths of many people. They're fighting to liberate people and bring them back into control of their own lives, but they sure as hell aren't "morally pure saints". This is a much more morally questionable premise them XCOM 1, where they were completely in the right to kill off the invading force that has been experimenting on innocent civilians. Here, people have a new life under the alien regime, and don't necessarily want to see it change. In regards to MECs in particular, I've seen nothing at all suggesting that XCOM would be opposed to using gene mod or MEC tech in XCOM 2. They're fighting EXALT taking away people's freedom and kidnapping/experimenting on people, they're not fighting because they're morally opposed to gene modding.
