Yeah they are quite nasty. I'd kinda understand hitting more often, but they seemed to have hit through anything, from any range. why. Then again I'm still not sure what the armor stat means. Some have 3, some have -3, some have 0.
That's defense. AKA: 3 Defense means -3 Aim on attackers who shoot that soldier, -2 Defense, +2 aim for attackers.

But hey i love that map still because of this.

I stuck 2 squad sight snipers in the first tower, it was fucking hilarious. Though for me nothing makes me laugh more than having every single unit on overwatch and a single enemy pops up and they all shot and hit it.

50+ damage, even the damn base staff hit. And lastly just for fun all my soldiers are following the same theme. I'm having to get creative with the nicknames.

I just wished Xcom had real mod support, X-com would be absolutely perfect for a mod on this subject.

It's the second Slingshot mission.
Speaking of missions, apparently Portent goes from really fuckin' easy to really fuckin' bullshit if you get it too early . . . got it before the first council report in my current game, and, uh, let's just say it made me glad I wasn't playing on Ironman.
Fuck the convoy mission in Long War. I might have said this before so I'll say it again: fuck LW thin men SO much. Cheating little bastards
At this point, fuck Long War in general.
the dev of it is a dick
Someone needs to make a Short War mod that fixes all of Long War's bullshit while keeping the major additions.
the dev of it is a dick
So is the guy that made the XCOM namelist generator. Does this happen to every modder who gets popular?
So is the guy that made the XCOM namelist generator. Does this happen to every modder who gets popular?
wait how was he a dick
Why does most of the Xcom subreddit have such a circle-jerk for Long War? From what I've seen here (and Beagle's stream chat) a lot of people hate it.
wait how was he a dick
Reasons completely unrelated to XCOM. Maxumym pointed out that it was this guy. Stubborn tool who is good at video encoding but terrible at translating anime. He can compress videos to such a small size that your CPU hits 100% just trying to play them. List of stuff here, give or take a few. Honestly, I don't see the big issue with long war balancing, most of it you can adjust yourself. Also the reason why beagle's Ironman Impossible run looks like an unwinnable mess is because he spent way too long to progress, he could've ended it a few in game years earlier. Which means at this point alien tech and resources are at an absurd level.

It's the fact that Beags has to deal with 20 fucking enemies at the same time, along with a boss cyberdisk, in a base assault. That is unbalanced and unfair.

It's not Beagle's fault, he played it the best you possibly could in Impossible Ironman mode. Long War's tech progression is cool, the new weapon tiers are also pretty awesome, the classes and equipment are fun to play with but ultimately the whole thing falls apart because the Aliens just get a shitload of HP and DR and regen/repair perks making them stupid hard to kill. No berserker should have as much HP as those three did in that base defense. It's absurd.
I agree that base defense is broken simply because of the randomly selected troopers. Beagle could've done that np had he been given the right troops at the start. And again, the only reason the aliens have such an absurd DR and HP is because his campaign has been delayed for so long. This is also something you can tweak in the .ini file.

I really like all the stuff LW adds to the game but the moment when I just researched phalanx armour, and the game suddenly drops 15 chyssalids, 2 cyberdisks and 4 seekers within 1 turn on a terror mission is pretty much where I just want to whop out the console and cheat :v: I mean I like a challenge buy LW tends to turn to complete bs at times.
If it could fuck off with health buffs or number buffs, it'd be fine.
long war is ok yeah it's a bunch of bullshit that makes you roll your eyes but if you've already beaten the game or played it for days on end then you're probably down with all the bullshit it throws at you, and it manages to give you a lot of extra reasons of its own to do so. there are also second wave options that address a lot of the issues that are being leveled at it. it asks too much, basically, but knowing that going in it's harder for me to get mad at it
If it could fuck off with health buffs or number buffs, it'd be fine.
Good thing you can change that then eh?
Good thing you can change that then eh?
Where? I've Googled and asked in the thread (no one answered), but all I get are reddit posts complaining about LW.
-snip- DefaultGameCore.ini You can change almost everything here. Here's a guide to editing the .ini http://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/2s5zrb/lw_beginners_guide_to_editing_the_ini_files/ [editline]19th July 2015[/editline] Terribly sorry, I just realised I linked to the EU version :v: Long War Enemy within is here: Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\XComGame\Config [editline]19th July 2015[/editline] After taking a look through the .ini I found you can actually adjust p much anything. Increase Heat Effectiveness for yourself and aliens. You can reduce bonus hp as well as robotic enemies' DR just to mention a few. Couple that with the second war option to reduce alien pods overall.

I do complain about LW's balance nonstop but I gotta admit, I have as much skill as the dev himself in balancing things and would probably come out with something way too easy.
Someone needs to make a Short War mod that fixes all of Long War's bullshit while keeping the major additions.
Omg... The Long War dev himself has said and encouraged everyone to tweak LW to their liking. AKA, making it easier. Or harder. Or anything. Plus he made all of this easier with tons of new Second Wave options. Plus slightly editing some stuff in the DefaultGameCore.ini (iirc) file isn't hard either. You can have a relatively relaxed and easy-time going through Long War if you want, without making it shorter either.

Granted a lot of stuff from the second wave options can make it easy, but some make it TOO easy. Like the major buff of aim to your ground and air game. Ini changes are good as well, you can customize a lot, but not everything. You can't adjust the airgame aim or interception time for example, that's all hardcoded. I do complain about LW's balance nonstop but I gotta admit, I have as much skill as the dev himself in balancing things and would probably come out with something way too easy.
I'm working on my own mod adjustment atm, if you can wait like a day or so of testing, I'd be happy to share it. Major changes I've done is adjusting the alien progression stats, lowering the tankiness of a lot of the alien leaders early on, also toned-down damage some enemies like thinmen and sectoids can get late-game. Mind you they still get pretty strong, but not as fast. Instead of getting major DR from the start and no increase overtime, I made it so that they start with low DR and it increases overtime properly. Also I've adjusted a lot of the Will power on some aliens. That changed that happened a long time ago that switched items giving +5 or +10 aim/crit to +4 or +8, gone. I made it go back to +5 / +10, which makes Pulse useful again (I think...). Starting number of soldiers is 30 now. Soldiers and SHIVs get +5 Aim, so the base aim for soldiers now is 70 and SHIVs get 75. Also, I think SHIVs don't get enough love, so I gave them a 4th slot and just a tiny bit of more HP. With that I also made it so lasers give +5 bonus aim now. Air-game wise, I made it so that the usual repair time is now at about 66% of the original, so repair time is not as ridiculous. Mounting guns is also a few days faster, unfortunately I can't tweak the aim or time.
