Is there some type of minimum distance requirement for Overwatch vs Mectoids? 3 times now I have set up an extensive Overwatch chain against a breaching Mectoid only to have it just not work at all, and being Ironman it's costing me some soldiers when it fails. My last chain included a Sectoid walking in with the Mectoid and the Sectoid somehow triggered only 1/6th of the chain, getting only one of the guys to fire on him and kill him even though he was clearly visible to everyone during his movement, but the Mectoid got no reaction despite being in LOS of the entire squad who could all shoot on him the next turn. Earlier on that mission I did trigger 2 Overwatches perfectly fine against him when he was walking up to my guys from 8ish tiles away, what's going on?

The overwatch triggers when your soldiers see the enemy move from 1 time in their vision to another tile in their vision.
So uh, I was doing Zhang's second mission and I found this, so I had to record it:
Is this vanilla or long war? How has this not been found before?
Is this vanilla or long war? How has this not been found before?
It's a vanilla thing. I mean you can still do it in Long war, cause it's just a map entity thing.

Wow this thing is glorious. Is it bad that I want want to have that brute under my control rather than have it killed? Shoot me.

i am officially diggin on the higher fidelity in 2 so much rn
I'm catching up on beagle rush vods on twitch. I'm an hour and a half into the base assault. I just know this is going to end terribly. It's really hard to continue when more and more aliens just show up and keep wrecking his shit. God this is like watching a car crash in slow motion. I'm not sure if I should just skip to the end or continue to watch the bodies pile up.
seeing those screens makes me hope we have more sophisticated camera control this time round [editline]22nd July 2015[/editline] and a way to disable the UI
That chainsaw gun instantly triggered my GoW memories. It's uncanny. They do look a lot weaker now though, he's just wearing some tight stuff instead of that insane power armor they had before.
I kinda hope they also add bayonets for XCOM soldiers. Why use stealth tactics when you can engage your enemies with bayonets fixed in a glorious charge.

man, that is incredible - I totally see what they mean by it being a throwback to the UFO defense design as well. that game had a great overall aesthetic, it was way more cartoony than anything in the modern games. for instance, the intro looked like some kind of incredibly violent version of the animated x-men series, where the mutons were basically purple apes jammed into skinsuits: fuck yeah, I love that intro so much. the guile-hair soldier's suit is even the spitting image of gambit's: I wouldn't even have been mad if they'd decided to go with a similar style for the reboot, though what they did come up with was fantastic
I like that you can see the tribal-style tattoos that the Research Logs talked about.
I fucking love the new muton design but I will miss them being round muscular giants with stumpy club feet. :vs:

fuck me that is terrifying and well designed at the same time
I fucking love the new muton design but I will miss them being round muscular giants with stumpy club feet. :vs:
The old Muton design looked a lot like a cartoony, more comical Strogg from Quake, this design actually looks far more original and intimidating to me

How do I stop being a savescumming shit Playing my first Classic playthrough and I just can't stop savescumming to prevent soldier deaths
How do I stop being a savescumming shit Playing my first Classic playthrough and I just can't stop savescumming to prevent soldier deaths
I'm save scumming only when I'm taking important shots like with a rocket or with a sniper, other than that, I accept most of my deaths.
How do I stop being a savescumming shit Playing my first Classic playthrough and I just can't stop savescumming to prevent soldier deaths
either enable ironman or play slower
either enable ironman or play slower
I was thinking of playing Ironman... Then encountered mission-breaking bugs on both Portent's second and third mission, and decided against risking it.
I don't save scum but i do restart a level if the game has broken itself just to fuck me, like getting overwatched through a wall with no possible sight line at all or moving to cover intending to take a shot only for the game to turn around and say you don't have an angle, even when you quiet clearly do and then that alien kills said soldier without moving. Beyond that, i take each death. Thankfully i don't often need to restart a level due to bullshit since EW.
Portent huh? Fuck Long War Gangplank more like it. I did this shit on Ironman Impossible, I had 6 smokes, rockets and bullets out the fucking ass, and battle injuries to show for it. I did the fucking impossible, I told Long War to go fuck itself: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/436072390877735948/F2EFCD720D1FBC38C2B70EBD63E8130E15CAF914/[/t] Look at these fuckers, all of them. ALRIGHT SO LET'S SEE THOSE JUICY REWAR-- [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/436072390877736844/C1C79E7728F42DE850956CFF1167B0D7BCCC0E78/[/t] ...94 Elerium and 95 Alloys? That's it? It takes me fucking 80 alloys to make an Alloy SHIV, and all I get out of a FUCKING BATTLESHIP CLASS UFO, IS 95. Yeah, sure ok, yeah, no, I'm not mad, not at all.
Johnny "Fair and Balanced" Lump
I can't view that xcom page about the new alien? It takes me to an age gate and then just redirects me to the main site with nothing about the new muton on it....
