From what I got out of the IGN article, it sounds like XCOM flat out never got anywhere. Sounds like more of a sequel to the premise of XCOM than the actual following events.
Considering there's a lot of stealthing involved, genemods and MEC upgrades will probably be more along the lines of Shadowrun and Deus Ex territory. Subtle enhancements and augmentations. But if the lategame is anything along the lines of fullscale revolution, we'll probably see heavier MEC trooper stuff returning to wreck shit
Not sure, what twitch channel was it on?
It was supposed to be firaxis games own channel but they're just hosting beagle now.
Seems like MEC soldiers haven't been revealed or are not returning... shame I liked those.
10ft tall stompy robots aren't very stealthy, they'll probably get changed a lot if they're still in.
And when you win the game, the aliens, realizing their loss of earth and it's threat, totally destroy the entire planet.
I for one bow to our alien overlords.
Next game: take over the alien planets.
They better not remove MEC's.
Fuck stealth when you can spew fire and dakka at anything that moves.
Speaking of fire. I hope we get flamethrowers that regular dudes can use.
I don't see why they'd remove MEC's entirely, TBH it's more likely that we'll be able to get MEC-pieces and shit through special raids.

I do like the idea that early game you have to use stealth and espoinage to finish missions... but once you get some momentum going and get those tech levels up then you start being more overt and deploying the cyborg supersoldiers armed with "Fuck you" cannons and "Scew your cover" packs
MECs would make sense for hit-and-run imo, especially with the jump jets. They'd likely be ill-suited for targets that require slipping past defences first before striking, or where you can't get away via rip and tear.

Exactly what I was thinking, starting point your choices of being a powerhouse have narrowed down but as you develop new tech and convert people you'll probably have more powerful means to take down the aliens. It's actually more interesting that way than the previous because you were already overt at the start, you just got more options at end game and it felt boring.
yeah, building popular support will probably mean XCOM can go full revolution lategame with access to all the heavy duty gear like titan armor and maybe even heavier military gear if entire countries are liberated / defected, Terminator Salvation style
imagine having to obtain each mec suit via high risk misisons and then you have to guard it in battle as a valuable as fuck asset
The full on modding.
I just realized there was a squad based TBS of the exact same vein of Enemy Unknown but set in the 40K universe.
SPACE MARINE MOD.

As long as they can absolutely RIP AND TEAR proper dreadnought style:

They can be the most sacred relics for all I care.
You shouldn't have stopped right there, because it gets better:
I said I paused, not stopped. :v:
Wait so what I'm picking up from the article, storywise, XCOM 2 takes part in an alternate timeline, where XCOM fails to stop the invasion. If that's the case, that's a bit lame, considering there was all this talk of [sp]the Volunteer[/sp] and what not. I mean hell, a second wave after we [sp]destroy the ship in XCOM:EU/EW[/sp] would have been better.
I get why they're doing it since even if we got fucked up and lost our tech we'd still have all of our laser, plasma etc research.
But what if [sp]the Volunteer[/sp] got sent to this alt universe and that's why they said it?
Now there's a thought...
Well I hope, that would be quite the saving factor right there.

So Fringe?
But instead of Walter Bishop going over, its the Volunteer.
Is it me, or wasn't there supposed to be a stream from Firaxis themselves tonight?
Is it me, or wasn't there supposed to be a stream from Firaxis themselves tonight?
There was, scheduled for two hours ago, but they're streaming Beaglerush instead.
It's up in the air if we're actually going to see any XCOM 2 today.

I can dig that, I mean [sp]blowing up that fuckhuge ship did cause some kind wormhole-thingy[/sp] so it's definietly a possible scenario.
[sp]Volunteer leads the new XCOM?[/sp]
What if you [sp]create the volunteer when starting a new game?[/sp]
What if you [sp]create the volunteer when starting a new game?[/sp]
i hope you will be able to import in some way

It would be really cool if they separated hair and hat/helmet customization. I wanted to make a Duke Nukem-esque sunglasses dude but they kept sunglasses combined with hats so i couldn't get the flattop/shades combo I wanted.
[editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
Also some of the hats made the wearer look bald
For some reason, elite units with extremely advanced technology don't strike me as the types to wear crazy-clothes, even if they're fighting a guerrilla war.
I really hope that they add more variation in the voices. The voice acting itself was good, but whats the point of 6 variations of American accents?
A bit of humor.

I would love to have a C&C Commando esque character
"I gotta present for ya!"
"That was left handed!"
"Keep em' comin'!"
"Come on!"
