Burrowing Chryssalids that can spawn babies from poison... :suicide: It's like the devs saw all the difficulty tweaks of Long War and said "Yea, we can do better!"
I hope that in addition to sneaking there can also be missions where you go incognito, such as sending in an operative to gather intelligence and whatnot. You'd be out in the open and visible, but nobody would know you were XCOM until your cover was blown. It would be more dangerous for veteran units to go in because of the recognition, so this would be a big use for rookies.
Burrowing Chryssalids that can spawn babies from poison... :suicide: It's like the devs saw all the difficulty tweaks of Long War and said "Yea, we can do better!"
"difficulty tweaks" in long war consist of enemy spam, unreasonable amounts of health, and unreasonable amounts of damage reduction. i sure as hell hope the xcom devs can do better im excited for the new abilities, lots of new strategies you gotta watch out for.
If the balance if off, a mod can always fix it.
If the balance if off, a mod can always fix it.
Yeah I too like when developers release untested games. Luckily, we aren't talking about Bethesda or something, so that's hardly going to happen anyway.
That new Lid is FUCKING TERRIFYING! I hope modding a mission type is easy, if there isn't one already one in the base game I want to make a mission where you have to clear out an infested area.
:snip:
If you happen to die while that chryssalid poison attack is active, then the soldier that died, or the civilian, can then enter this gestation period, and they will become a cocoon.

I'm thinking Combine headcrab canisters, not fired out of a missile but being used where rebels are. Though it would be interesting to see lids getting deployed an attacking Advent and Xcom indiscriminantly.
Imagine that the second one was true, and not only that, curing 'lid poison was a very limited and/or hard to get ability. The three of those working in conjunction could give rise to some delicious gameplay choices--you could cure your soldier of 'lid poison, but that's an expensive resource right there; you could wait for him to turn into a cocoon and blow to cocoon apart then, but then you're down a soldier for nothing; or you could have your doomed soldier run off towards a group of enemies, turn into a cocoon, and spawn three chrysalids to sow havoc among them.
I wonder how the new tech is going to be. Maybe instead of going ballistic>laser>plasma, they each have their own perks and can be researched further. Like ballistic weapons get upgraded into rail or coil guns, lasers get different wavelengths, plasma gets something else and they all have some benefit to armor types. Like researching lasers and optics means you can get invisibility armor

Maybe a less accurate hard hitter, and more accurate soft hitter, and an average. Then there's the possibility of weapon type resistance, but that might be punishing players for specializing.

I really like the idea of going against the aliens using nothing but your down-to-Earth ballistic weapons but there's so little variety that the appeal is lost and they're so weak that it's not really worth it. I do know that one of our dearest posters managed to complete the game in Classic? Ironman with nothing but conventional weaponry, but that's more of a feat of strength than something he did because he liked shooty tooties. I don't really know how you'd scale up firearms to the level of plasma/laser guns without magic, but maybe going "alien tech lets us fire all these high calibers on our assault rifles with no problems!" would be enough.
BEAGLE'S LOST HIS FUCKING MIND

Lasers and plasma can be more liberal with the "how" since they're already fictional.

Pikachu is dead. All is lost.

I can't really see how they gonna fit into the story in that shape, I don't like how they play in vanilla nor long war.
Maybe irrelevant but I'd be more scared of getting hit by a bullet than a laser or bolt of plasma [editline]28th July 2015[/editline] Also what did beagle do

He then proceeded to make pikachu, and he died the next match with 0 kills.

The chryssalids can easily just have hives in them like animals
there's supposed to be jungle environments in old world cities. The chryssalids can easily just have hives in them like animals
I think it'd be fun to implement some of the EU prefabs (kinda wrecked though) like supermarkets and gas stations for use in some of the non-city environments.
Jungle warfare against ADVENT scouts with feral Chryssalids attacking both sides would be sick.
Could anyone outline the rough milestones of EW? Alien Base assault seems like a quarter of the way through the game, at least to me?
Could anyone outline the rough milestones of EW? Alien Base assault seems like a quarter of the way through the game, at least to me?
Well, if that's what you are focusing on, yeah you can rush Alien Base in like, late April or so. I usually focus on first getting MECs, then Guns, then Armor. Usually I have plasma/titan/mec-3s by the time I go for the Alien base which is at about August.
Could anyone outline the rough milestones of EW? Alien Base assault seems like a quarter of the way through the game, at least to me?
Actually, I think the Base assault in vanilla marks the rough halfway-point of the campaign.

Those are some damn good aviators considering the scale we'll typically see them at. Really shows how much more detailed the game is compared to EU.
I really hope we get more things to capture/research. If we get cyberdisks/sectopods/mechtoids filled with tech that we can't capture, It will be disapointing. And more opertunities to use outdated tech, like lasers when you've got plasma. Give those lasers to seconday teams that sometimes need to function whilst another team is out on a skyranger, give those lasers to base security, give those lasers to supporting countries. Give your laser research to every allied nation when you feel up for it.
