I think we all know what the better choice is.
Not really. I can see both being fucking excellent. The former is good either for scouting or assassinating important enemy units with a blast from concealment, whereas the other lets you have more certainty that you'll kill the blighter when you charge, which is pretty damn good in it's own right. Pretty big trade off that can define a trooper's build.

I can't see myself using melee often. It seems like such gamble to get up close to an enemy, especially if you fail to kill the enemy. I never used the kinetic strike when it came to MECs.
Consider the fact that with promotions that it can chain or be done before other actions.
I'm not saying that melee won't prove to be powerful, but without having experience with the system first hand I don't feel inclined to use it yet.
I never used the kinetic strike when it came to MECs.
So, you basically ignored one of the flat out best weapons a MEC can have, huge damage, doesn't spend ammo, can be chained to cause more damage, speeds the MEC up...
only thing about ranger melee i can't see working is the fact that it means you'll end the turn out of cover most of the time [editline]1st August 2015[/editline] and since it's replacing run & gun that leaves less options
So, you basically ignored one of the flat out best weapons a MEC can have, huge damage, doesn't spend ammo, can be chained to cause more damage, speeds the MEC up...
Yes, I suppose I definitely did. I don't even like using MECs for that matter, they deal a lot of damage and get more health, but to me they're giant bullseyes. I'd say the same for a melee bringing soldiers out of cover. I'll obviously give the system a chance as I did MECs and if it turns out well for me than I'll be happy to be wrong.
you really missed out on a chance to say "ayy-er ups" shame on you
It's pronounced with a short e, though. Originated on Mexican paranormal sites as a coping mechanism when spooked. Don't ask.
I can already predict that black market is going to be very relevant.

SnakesCOM
God dammit. Reinstalled long War after a run of Normal mode and getting bored by the lack of variety etc, but now Long War is crashing on startup and "detecting user settings", none of the trouble shooting guides have worked. Any ideas? EDIT: The Offline mode seems to have fixed it, but it's a crappy fix.

Googled him and that is some [sp]extreme animation quality combined with some extremely disturbing source materials[/sp]. Is this guy some type of pro? Because that looks insanely high yield.

Those snake tits are too damn big [editline]2nd August 2015[/editline] But it's an artists own rendition so it's fine

Please don't send this thread back in that direction again. On topic, the kinetic strike module is viable because the mec has the health to take the risk and it's guaranteed to hit and deals enough damage to KO most targets. Ranger melee does not have that kind of security / reassurance which is why I'm not sold on it. Of course i'd have to play with it first to see how it works, but being invisible when the rest of the squad has gone loud opens up a whole different level of tactical opportunities which sound brilliant to me.

I honestly find it kinda funny that most XCOM 2 related material I see lately has the snake in it and a bunch of people making creepy comments. The Ranger guy hit the snake then held still out of cover for the rest of the turn, the only reason why he didn't get instagibbed was because it was all scripted. Unless the class has some type of perk to get better defense after a kill or something, the ranger's gonna die pretty much instantly after killing/damaging a guy in melee. Seems kind of bad. I can't really talk much since we haven't seen jackshit in terms of game footage, but it looks like scout ranger is the more viable alternative.

On its own, that ability allows you to dash out of cover, strike down an enemy, and dash back – effectively turning the Ranger’s sword into a ranged weapon (although exposing him to Overwatch cover fire).

If it gave you a full turn again upon the first kill allowing you to move and shoot / ow/ hunker down ect then maybe because that's a significant pay off for such a high risk. I'll wait and see though.
Idk why you guys are so worried that the melee part is gonna suck here. The fact is that this has been in the making of XCOM 2 for awhile now, which means the crew working on it have figured out a way to make it both fun/balanced/useful at the same time.

I'm actually happy melee is in the game. The one thing I wanted to do to aliens was beat the shit out of them. Also, melee kills are probably going to be brutal so it'll cause nearby aliens to panic I'm hoping they get a disarm type of ability for when you go up against something dangerous at range like a sectopod.
