Well there doesn't seem to be a beta patch out right now, and I deleted the ini in case there were bad edits
Well, how about just use whatever Steam's on? That's what I have. You can check the version number in the in-game main menu. It should say "v 1.2.37.0.0" I think (in dota right now)
All this talk about playing as a ghoul, and I'm just thinking, what's the point? The only gameplay difference it would really make is that now you're immune to radiation, which would make fighting children of atom quite a lark. Now, playing as a super mutant, or a Mister Handy, that would actually change gameplay substantially.

How is the lore on ghouls and eating? Do they need sustenance even to exist?
How is the lore on ghouls and eating? Do they need sustenance even to exist?
Never really clarified in any of the games. It's implied they still somehow need to eat and drink but to what extent is left unknown. Ever since the first game the exact physiology of ghouls have been very inconsistent and rarely ever explained. Even the symptoms vary from one game to the next, including between 3, NV and 4. The way ghouls work is also often disregarded for the sake of humor, so that's another thing to keep in mind.
Just found out that [sp]Owyn and Sarah Lyons are both dead canonically[/sp] Bad feels. ;---;
Well there's [sp]Billy, the kid who locked himself in a fridge for 200 years without eating/drinking.[/sp] [editline]14th December 2015[/editline]
Just found out that [sp]Owyn and Sarah Lyons are both dead canonically[/sp] Bad feels. ;---;
How can one disagree with this, it's on terminals in the Prydwen.
Well there's [sp]Billy, the kid who locked himself in a fridge for 200 years without eating/drinking.[/sp]
[sp]Billy's meant to be a joke about Lassie. Him surviving for 200 years is part of the joke, the fact he survived without eating or drinking is disregarded by the writers for the sake of humor.[/sp] It's kind of the deal deal as with Beatrix, you can fuck her and all it does is bring up a funny scene but the writers didn't bother about the part where your dick would fall off from all the radiation poisoning because it's just supposed to be a joke.

So ghouls are superiour human race.
On the subject of ghouls, I don't really like their redesign in Fallout 4. In 3/NV they weren't like the skin and bone ghouls of the earlier games but still looked like rotting zombies. Now they've got noticeably smoother skin (ironically) and their perfect perms are just jarring. Generally the aesthetic of Fallout 4 is a step up but regular ghouls have lost a bit of their character. I think they wear wigs.
I think the fact their skin no longer looks like rotten pasta and like actual decayed skin is a nice improvement. It's a bit closer to what ghouls looked like in Fallout 1 while still doing its own thing.
The guy making it's twitter is here, he streams the progress sometimes. He's also doing the riot armor variants too [editline]14th December 2015[/editline] [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CWJ_cA6U4AEsxja.jpg:large[/t] [editline]14th December 2015[/editline] Just noticed that he put BPD instead of LAPD, nice touch :v:
This looks fantastic but I knew at the back of my mind there as something off here. The helmet on top needs to be wider at the top, the colour is off and the mouth area needs to be pulled up and made narrower. Could also have to do with the nuclear yield around Boston compared to Washington D.C.? Because DC probably got way more fucked up by nuclear weapons, therefore more fucked up ghouls.
I said a bit, not that it was the exact same. Ghouls in Fallout 1 were practically just fantasy undead with a different name.
the point is that it isn't closer to what fallout 1's ghouls look like than fallout 3/new vegas

I wish there was unique ghoul hair like there used to be because now they're either bald or fabulous. As far as I know there's only one male ghoul with hair in the entire game. More wearable wigs would be neat too, I get the feeling that the pompadour wig was just included for the sake of Deacon.
I said a bit, not that it was the exact same. If anything they turned from "generic zombies" (i strongly disagree to this statement) to aliens in Fallout 4 anyway. The reasoning behind the black eyes is still beyond me and it was literally the first thing I modded out of the game, it's such a weird decision. Set's scalp is devoid of skin, at least that's how I always understood his portrait.
I personally like the way they look, at least compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas ghouls; at first FO3 ghouls looked like decaying corpses, but over time I grew to see only weird potato heads with screwy textures. I wish they'd kept the piecemeal hair and widely varying skintones, though. The black eyes don't bug me much either, they could maybe be a bit more pale and milky, but they remind me of the cow eyeballs I dissected once, which is probably how they should be.
Pretty sure it's the same reason why the super mutants went back to green skin in fallout 4, the weird melting skin texture with really strong normal maps didn't work out at all.
That's the version I'm on
Okay, kind of a late reply here, but as far as I remember; I'm not on main "gaming" pc right now, but all the changes I ever made is as following: 1) in Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 you find Fallout4Prefs.ini, and add bEnableFileSelection=1 right below the [Launcher] part. Save&Close. 2) in same location, you find Fallout4Custom.ini (OR Fallout4.ini) and add this: [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= First check if there is [Archive] section already, and/or the sResourceDataDirsFinal= already, but if there isn't, add all of them. And yes, the "sResourceDataDirsFinal=" is supposed to be blank (before, people were instructed to add bunch of things after the = part, but no longer.) and 3) whenever you install a mod (which I hope you know how to do), you also have to go to 'C:/Users/[YourUsername]/AppData/Local' and find plugins.txt Then add the name of the mod (mod name.esp) on the list. Remember, you have to set it as [ ] Read Only when you edit the list, then back to [X] Read Only, so that FO4 Launcher doesn't swipe it clean, preventing any mod from loading. Then I believe there is another way, by launching it from Fallout4.exe and not the launcher, but this is how I roll. Also explained here. Also, I guess all this info isn't really final, just one workaround the patch.
If you use VATS it will always fire 100% charged shots. AP usage is far lower than it should be if charging each shot fully before firing, so this may be bugged one way or another.
I was under the impression it would always fire the lowest charge, like the laser musket always only loads 1 shot

I have mods that don't add loose files that work fine, but anytime loose files get used like custom meshes, I get a crash to desktop
It's kind of the deal deal as with Beatrix, you can fuck her and all it does is bring up a funny scene but the writers didn't bother about the part where your dick would fall off from all the radiation poisoning because it's just supposed to be a joke.
I don't think non-feral ghouls give off radiation in the same way ferals do, maybe becoming too saturated with radiation, to the point where they literally give it off, is part of what causes ghouls to become feral (i always thought there would have to be a drawback to excessive use of radiation as a source of healing) . plus i feel ghoul bigots would comment on "those fucking zombies give u cancer" if that was the case. Also i don't think banging ghouls is supposed to just be funny, beatrix has some serious BDSM vibes going on, so she probably genuinely was put there for people who are into kink. she even hints at one point that her longevity has driven her to sadomasochism because after 200 years "normal" sex has become dull to her. Plus you can hook up with hancock and bang constantly if you want , my girlfriend romanced him and her character never suffered any ill effects when they slept together. Maybe some people are genuinely just into ghouls. [sp] haha what wierdo people haha who um even does that haha[/sp]
I think the fact their skin no longer looks like rotten pasta and like actual decayed skin is a nice improvement. It's a bit closer to what ghouls looked like in Fallout 1 while still doing its own thing.
I really like the ghoul redesign (aside from them all having full heads of hair because ffs even atom cultists have hair-loss) because they don't look like they would leave the entirety of their remaining flesh inside a sweatshirt if they took it off. If some ghouls are supposed to have been around for hundreds of years, bumping into stuff, showering, getting dressed, undressed, fucking , fighting, rolling over in bed etc; then id rather they had a tough leathery texture to their skin instead of looking like they would disintegrate like a dropped bee-hive if they fell over. It's nothing like fallout one tho, if anything it's a step further from the more random, patchwork, gnarled look they had back then, but it's a design change i happen to like.
Molecular Level spoilers, tagging just in case. [sp]Why does virgil want to cure his mutation? He says the institute won't take him back, he spends most of his time in isolation anyway so it's not like he has to worry about people shooting at him. He lives in the glowing sea, an area where radiation immunity would be immeasurably beneficial. Unless there's a line about him eventually losing his intellect that I missed somewhere, it doesn't make sense to me. Maybe he shares the institute's obsession with "pure" humanity or whatever.[/sp]
