Two helpful tips I've discovered for the beginning of the game, for those who haven't discovered them.
There's a root cellar behind one of the northern-most houses in santurary that contains a bunch of food and a few gold bars, worth about 400 caps a pop, and there's a guaranteed snubnosed .44 magnum spawn on a skeleton a short ways southeast of sanctuary, on top of a wooded hill with molerats on it.
You can also have Dogmeat fetch the Cryolater through the locked case. It's sort of pointless early though since you don't run into cryo ammo often.

you don't run into cryolater ammo at all. You have to buy it. And it's hella expensive.
Same goes for cannonballs. Only two places in the game give you them.
And gamma rounds are rare, even if you loot Child of Atom folk.
I don't like how (railroad/institute quest spoilers) [sp]Underground Undercover requires you to go DEEP into the institute questline to finish (like literally you gotta do all the quests up until the point of having to choose between working with the railroad or the institute
I wanted more points to sabotage the institute, or be able to flip the switch at any time when the stuff they ask me to go and do gets too much (like before the attack at bunker hill) - all I'm doing is working FOR them and then just turning around and flipping them the bird, it feels unsatisfying[/sp]

I highly highly HIGHLY recommend picking this up right away if you plan to use pistols in any capacity. The snub barrel is awesome if you use a mouse and have decent aim.
Get the magnum, sell your 10mm ASAP to buy more .44 ammo (and/or trade in those gold bars), and pick the gunslinger perk for your first level up. You'll rip right through the very early game if you can make every bullet count.
Have any of you guys ever ran into legendary Combat Rifles or Pipe pistol/rifles(non-revolver)? So far I never ran into one, is it because they're the most abundant wasteland weapon?

It just makes the railroad quest line seem halfassed. Like the railroad wasn't added till a few months before the game finished development.

I did actually come across a few when I had the cryolater in my inventory.
I think the game gives out the ammo piecemeal on the weapons you have. I THINK, because I was looting cryo rounds from gunners and super mutants.
it bothered me how there were normal ass humans just living in the crater at ground zero

If you bring Danse to certain places where the Children of Atom are he'll say that the BoS have done tests on them and for some unknown reason they have gained a high resistance to radiation.
That's the thing, I've done all this already. I have mods that don't add loose files that work fine, but anytime loose files get used like custom meshes, I get a crash to desktop
Check your Fallout 4 folder, the one where the .exe is, see if there's a fallout4 folder with an INI inside it, if there is, delete that. Then go into Data, you might have had the issue I had of a fallout4.ini somehow appearing in there. Deleting that fixed it for me.
I always thought the Children of Atom were dumb, and I was really excited to find out what was in the center of the Glowing Sea...
And then it was just those fucks.
I appreciate them for the clever take on the whole difficult to prove or disprove but fairly insane "every atom contains a universe within it" theory. Wish they weren't insta-hostile enemies outside the Glowing Sea though, at least not without an explanation. I like to think they're trying to "divide" people with their Gamma Guns, but I haven't seen that actually said ingame.

I'd assume that this is the result of natural selection over several generations. Huge group of people live in and around a radioactive area, most die, the ones who don't die or become sterile reproduce, most of THEM die, and it keeps going until you have maybe ten left whose bodies are very highly resistant to radiation.
Why do the Children of the Atom near Salem attack you anyway? What if someone just wants to join their crazy ass cult?

I get legendary pipe weapons all the time, nearly as often as useless legendary leather armour or legendary melee weapons. I got one legendary combat rifle that got stronger at night and weaker during the day.

Or it's just another positive mutation due to radiation, sort of like some Psykers you meet throughout the various games.

Found an ini inside the data folder and deleted it. Fixed my mod problems, and I think some other issues where some settings weren't saving. 1000 thanks bro!

They attack you with radiation, maybe it is obscure invitation test?

I got a "Freezing" Flamer that has a chance of freezing enemies as you burn them which I promptly replaced my cryolater with.
It's funny how that many gamma guns pointed at you can be either a very legitimate threat, or laughably inconsequential, depending on whether you're wearing power armor or not.
Hope you guys won't mind me posting it again but I've added four new Paint jobs to my mod, this time Spitfire inspired.
I also made all the paints standalone since the last time.
It's a shame that the legs and arms use the same texture just mirrored for the opposite side, doesn't work well with camo.

Or a hazmat suit
Or a hazmat suit
The direct hit damage (which is ~11 points of explosive damage) can still chip away at your health surprisingly quickly even if you're wearing that, especially if you're fighting a lot of CoA.
In power armor though, that's almost entirely absorbed by your extremely high DR, so gamma guns do basically nothing to you at all.
So I completed the Curtain Call, with Danse because I thought I might just need an extra walking tank, beside myself. It's not like I expected anything groundbreaking, but [sp]literally zero acknowledgement of the fact that we're all of a sudden following a supermutant, for absolutely no reason and zero proper explanation given, or of the fact that Rex is an retard[/sp] managed to catch me by surprise. What the fuck, Bethesda?
on the topic of ghouls just what the hell happened to this Hancock

it looks so much better and more unique why would they ever scrap it
They attack you with radiation, maybe it is obscure invitation test?
That's actually a pretty cool explanation, to be one of them you must survive the power of the atom (now in handy pistol form), and the glowing sea ones don't attack you since the test is getting to the center of the crater without dying.

Also I miss the tesla cannon, now it would be even better without weapon condition. Maybe to compensate you could have it use the gauss rifle ammo (even if it doesn't make a lot of sense) or fusion cores (1 per 100-50 shots).
Man, creation kit can't come soon enough.

I found one pretty early on.
I usually love revolvers, but the .44 in fo4 felt really innaccurate to me, and the ammo was super uncommon and i didnt want to blow on my cash for bullets for a gun that couldnt shoot straight, so i just kinda saved it for infrequent use against bosses due to the high dmg.
Kinda late to the mutant discussion, but what happened to the supermutant's mouth straps? They don't have a constant grin anymore.

Firemen Protectrons drop Cryolator ammo.

Only the master's army wore straps because their lips were too big (or something? also to look intimidating I guess), vault 87 mutants just straight up didn't have lips, and evidently commonwealth supermutants just have normal lips.

Since I'm here, how about an update on my Starlight settlement from a few pages back? Ignoring my potato graphics

Bethesda doesn't believe in lip straps or whatever one calls them. It makes some sense since East Coast muties are not the same as their West Coast brethren, but I still don't like Betmutants. Generic and uninspired.
