You still need those for weapon repair kits dude.
I have a tonne of weapon repair kits back at my Novac house that I haven't used, and have multiple of all the weapons I need to repair them all. So I don't really think there's much point currently.
You still need those for weapon repair kits dude.
Weapon repair kits pretty much become obsolete after you get Jury Rigging, you'll be finding enough weapons to use as spare parts on most enemies till the cows come home.
I love Courtenay Taylor's voice acting. Especially her drunken lines. Reason why I always drink alcohol whenever I visit towns.
what if I want to do the main quest because my character wants to secure him or herself a maximum amount of personal power and wealth in the wasteland, but I'm forced to go through several "searching for kid" quests to advance the story at all even if I don't care about the little vagina turd
You can write it off as your character wanting to find the institute (which if you're going after personal power seems like a GREAT place to start) also you can play the "i wanna find my kid :((" character and still have your character change over the course of the story. like, that's the character I was playing but after they visited the institute I found it very hard to justify staying with them even considering what my character's goal was.
Can't wait to be able to continue the story :| I still crash when entering the CIT ruins
Anyone else hitting 100% disk usage in "system" when fallout 4 is running? It makes my whole PC freeze hard, and it's starting to happen more and more often. I don't think it's a disk speed problem since it's an ssd and I don't have that problem with any other game. Help?
It is very limiting, because it just breaks your character if you get an intro where he loves the hell out of his kid and 5 minutes later when unfrozen from the vault "oh I dun't care anymore, I'm gunna be a leather wearing badboy as far as the game lets me". New Vegas gave you this blank character who was shot by some guy. Once you're out, you can go find out what that was all about, kill him or spare his life eventually, or do not even care, etc. It was much more personal because of this than Fallout 4's main quest.
it makes a little more sense than fallout 3's at least
Playing through New Vegas is really showing me that most of the systems that were removed in 4 are actually better off not being there. .
Uh, no? Karma was bugged in NV so sure, better not having it than having a broken version. The Weapon Condition is personal, i liked it. All the rest though? Removing skills, traits, meaningful perks and character builds, most of the unique and fun weapons, companion wheel, good writing and much, much more? No, they were not "better off not being there"
EVEN Fallout 3 allows for more role-playing than Fallout 4.
I mean the main quest is still "I love my dad I gots ta find him", but unlike in fallout 3 it makes more sense for your sole survivor to come out and be able to be a badass (because they had military training... or were a lawyer...) rather than being a fresh-faced vault kid who has never seen the sun before
I experienced an interesting bug recently...
It's incredibly easy to dodge around any form of characterization and it's been the case since fallout 1.
Every time you talk about a game that isn't Fallout 3 you make an even stronger impression that you never played them
I was wondering, its kinda strange that theres no entrance to The Institute from the surface, you'd think you could go from the basement of the C.I.T through tons of abandoned, archaic institute laboratories heavily guarded by synths and assaultrons and other things of the type to the modern day institute. It would make for a pretty cool alternative to [sp]the molecular level quest[/sp]

- maybe I was wrong? -
No need for automatic when you can 1-2 shot almost every enemy.
I'd still rather have it be automatic. There are plenty of other slow firing weapons so I'll take any automatic I can.
[sp]there is one[/sp]
[sp]where?[/sp]
[sp]there is one[/sp]
Sorta, you do blow a 5 meter hole in the ground to do it.
I think honestly, there was nothing Bethesda could really do to 'fix' the problem with the protag's family other than just rewriting the entire game's plot. Considering [sp]how pivotal Shaun is to the PC's motivation to join each faction and to the plot in general (at least early on)[/sp], it would have had to have been something different. You can't have a game where you're desperately trying to find your child [sp]and avenge your dead spouse[/sp] without them being important in the intro. I don't really have a problem with it because I've always separated any roleplaying I'm doing from the actual story, but I can understand why people are frustrated. I think perhaps it might have been better if it had been someone else from your neighbourhood who'd [sp]been kidnapped by the Institute[/sp], then there'd be a lot more room for your character to be like 'eh I don't give a fuck I just want that sweet wasteland power'. And even though I've only just finished the mission where [sp]you explore Kellogg's mind[/sp], I still think the story could have done with a bit more personal choice. I think the factions are good too, but I still feel they should be fleshed out more. Even though the BoS in Fallout 3 felt a bit too goody-goody, having them basically be the Western chapter again in the sequel just feels like a bit of a letdown. I would have preferred it if they'd approached the topic of synths as something more like 'they're an abuse of technology by the Institute used to harm humanity rather than help it, we must eliminate them if they cannot be used to help us' than 'THEY'RE AN ABORTION OF SCIENCE, DESTROY EVERYTHING AND KILL THE GOOD ONES TOO, WE HATE NON-HUMAN THINKING THINGS'.
Actually he only really cares if you specifically interact with Nora and insist on mentioning your wife's death during conversations. You're frequently given the ability to pretty much not give a single fuck about Nora's death and focus on Shaun, or the ability to not even mention either of them. The game lets you go through the first half of the main quest either to save your child, avenge your spouse, or both. You can just ignore the main quest entirely if you feel like the motivations behind it aren't fitting for your character, same deal as in New Vegas where it's made clear there is no rational reason behind you even following benny - it's either a matter of revenge (when you could just as easily not go for it and take the second chance to do literally anything else) or a matter of completing a very menial task for a pathetic amount of caps even though there is practically no drawbacks to considering the job over and wrapped up.
Nah that's not true at all, my character has emotional outbursts over nora/shaun no matter what i do at several points in the game, with the only choice i have in the matter being "am i angry over my wifes death, or sad?". It's not just the main quest either, for example im currently building a settlement for ghouls around an old swimming pool and this ghoul woman starts hitting on my character- i decide that, considering non-feral ghouls now look like severe burns victims instead of flaking corpses, i am totally going to bang this undead chick. My options were "Im still grieving over the death of my wife" "maybe someday, but im still grieving over the loss of my wife" and "I just lost my wife you disgusting zombie!!!!!". it's worth noting this was after i had already banged 3 other people, so it made zero sense even within the fairly extensive limits of the established personality of the sole survivor. In regards to what you said about the courier having no reason to follow benny other than petty revenge, that's not strictly true. There's a note on your character at the start of the game that outlines the details of the platinum chip contract. Failure to deliver the item specified in the contract, whether through theft on your own part or failure to protect the package, means you are obligated to pay the full value of the item plus double your agreed fee. So failure to deliver the chip has potential for some some dire repercussions on the couriers end. Perhaps your character can't afford to replace the chip? Maybe your character is incredibly wealthy outside of vegas, but has no wish to chance being tracked down by bounty hunters on route to his caps stash? Maybe you are just a proud son of a bitch who has never fucked up a delivery and doesn't plan on starting today? Maybe being a courier is all you know how to do and you can't take the hit to your reputation and risk loosing your livelihood.
Sorta, you do blow a 5 meter hole in the ground to do it.
Is that something you can actually do or is that just what one of the faction quests result in?
I just dunno what it is about fallout 4 but all of the factions and companions seem really lame I feel like fallout 4 is a step forward in terms of gameplay but a step back in terms of story, and I'm kinda hopeful that we get another game like new vegas that builds on top of 4's systems and adds way better writing. the world is actually really well crafted (new vegas feels downright bare, comparatively) but the story is just not compelling at all
I liked NV's minimalist approach to main character building because it created a perfectly empty vessel to roleplay as. That's when Fallout is at its strongest, when you can be you and see how the wasteland reacts to decisions you'd actually make, without shoehorning in motivations you might not have. The courier's motivation was simple and relatable. Some smug shitface shot you in the head and you want to find him. Everything else is secondary, and entirely up to you how you handle it.
also note that having a blank slate does not necessarily mean it's got good character building - skyrim was a blank slate (besides YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE) but there weren't really any ways to define your character besides which groups you joined or worked with (and they'd all let you in anyway) I'm starting to enjoy the voiced protagonist, though.
You can get that Proto Vault Suit - Standalone now http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4454/?
Is that something you can actually do or is that just what one of the faction quests result in?
It's part of the [sp]Brotherhood of Steel[/sp] ending.
I don't really know how to explore and find cool shit. Where should I look? Also, I wanna know the best way to make a buncha caps :v:

I've always preferred semi-auto guns that do more damage per shot in every game i've played (except the SAW in Insurgency <3), but now i've garnered a fondness for the combat rifle in auto mode. Partially because I have just so much ammo for it, and also because .308 headshots with the hunting rifle have thus far been so disappointing.
Still haven't gotten through their questline yet, so maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't feel like they're just going "THINKING MACHINES BAD, GENOCIDE GOOD" to me. The Brotherhood has two ways of dealing with dangerous technology; if they can control it and use it for their own gain, like with power armor or Liberty Prime, they'll hoard it all, protecting it from the wasteland and the wasteland from it. But if they can't control it, the only option left to them is to remove it for the good of humanity. The Brotherhood sees themselves as protecting humanity from itself, so they have an inherent cynical view that anything sapient cannot be trusted. Synths, as dangerous, sapient machines quite capable of wiping out humans if they wanted too, are technology that the Brotherhood cannot be certain of their control over, and thus must be eliminated, whether they're under the control of the Institute or not. Doesn't make their actions any more moral, but they are acting as the Brotherhood should.
