Getting real tired of this "Error Code: -105" in the Steam browser. The worst thing is that I know why it's happening but I can't fix it because Valve doesn't give a shit. I run a modified HOSTS file that blocks ads, and anytime the Steam browser tries to load an ad that's blocked it redirects the entire page to http://error instead of just 404ing the ad. Meaning I can't access Wikia networks, Reddit, and various other websites that have ads. Removing the HOSTS file is counter intuitive as a lot of these sites have annoying ads that play video/sound and crash the Steam overlay or have ads that take up a large portion of the screen and basically make trying to visit these websites almost as much of a pain. And depending on the game alt-tabbing to go to my web browser causes the game to either crash, glitch up or stutter for a bit. I read somewhere that setting up a private Apache server on port 80 and having that redirect 404 errors would solve it but unless I configured it wrong (which is possible, I'm not well versed with it) I still get the Error -105 to show up. I have no clue how to fix this and it's really annoying, especially since months ago before they started doing that link parsing stuff and warning about going to external sites the browser worked fine with my HOSTS file.
Ahh, so that explains a lot actually, since I'm running this
can't you just find some conveniently simple/empty URL to redirect everything to? even a dropbox blank html page
Since it's based on name servers and internet protocol, no, unless someone had a service to do that, which is a the same as running a local Apache really. You're essentially changing the requests for the domain, and not the file. And modifying that behaviour in the steam client is something that would be interesting to see
https://github.com/SteamDatabase/SteamTracking/commit/440464ba277aa7592271456b2fe17bc10549d70c Authenticators Incoming Looks like SMS
"ChangePassword_SendingSms_Description" "Since your account has a phone attached to it, we're sending a confirming SMS code to your phone." "ChangePassword_NewPassword_WithTwoFactorDescription" "Please enter the current Steam Guard authenticator code from the mobile app on your phone, along with your new password." "ChangePassword_NewPassword_WithSmsDescription" "Please enter the SMS code that we just sent to your phone, along with your new password." "AccountRecovery_SmsError_Title" "Wups!"
And a lot on the controller wizard Also Valve Corporation now, Not Valve Software
But Valve have been "Valve Corporation" for a while now (probably years), they didn't bother to update that? lol oh their site is still valvesoftware.com
I know I'm late but Steam Link is a fantastic deal. Can't wait to get one when I get my own place.
Is Steam majorly fucking up for anyone else? The Steam client will randomly go in "routine maintenance" for minutes at a time, sometimes showing a friends list with everybody offline, then back to "routine maintenance". Similarly, the friend activity page will randomly go between normal and this: [t]http://s.horsedrowner.net/2015/03/1426183808-964x731.png[/t] It's happening so much that I'm not sure this is just their servers being shit -- especially since it seems to be happening to just me. Is this a problem for anyone else, would reinstalling Steam help, or do I need to sacrifice virgins to the Steam gods and hope to resolve it with Steam support? [editline].[/editline] I've uninstalled the client beta and started Steam with -developer so that I hopefully have more information if it happens again. I realize this is not a troubleshooting thread, but I was just wondering if this was a common/current problem or not.
when is steam not fucking up
when is steam not fucking up
Oh I'm all too aware of that; it's just for the amount of outage I'm experiencing, I don't hear anyone else complaining about it -- and when Steam says it's doing routine maintenance, web chat works perfectly fine and my friends will tell me they didn't see me go offline at all.
Gettin it too.
-snip- nevermind
for some reason whenever I access ANY steam page from my browser ( such as the store or just simply the community) it's always in polish for some reason. My account isn't logged in. Should I be worried?
for some reason whenever I access ANY steam page from my browser ( such as the store or just simply the community) it's always in polish for some reason. My account isn't logged in. Should I be worried?
http://www.steamcommunity.com/?l=english
My current problems with steam are, Cookies, Not being properly signed into the community, instead of being able to do so, it refreshes with my client login, this happens probably three times a day Mobile client Which when it signs in, it kills my active session with the desktop client
Steam and Steam games keep losing connection to the internet, even though internet connection is fine and I can actually chat with people through the Steam Community.
So there's a game on steam where Baltic state countries need to pay the usual Euro price which is based around 1 euro = 1 usd logic but we are restricted from gifting it to other EU countries or playing it outside the Baltic states, Russia or CIS countries. Nice. Although I'm not too sure about the gifting part as I'm not too interested in buying it just to test the gifting. :v: But if I'm restricted from playing it outside here then doesn't that mean I'm restricted from gifting it to people outside too?
Restricted from playing it elsewhere? Bullshit.
Restricted from playing it elsewhere? Bullshit.

The result of the new change means that Steam users in any of the countries listed above who added games through Steam gifts to their libraries, can only play said games within those countries. For instance, if game X is bought from Russia and sent as a gift, it can only be redeemed in Russia and can only be played in Russia, meaning that if the user were to travel to another country, they would lose access to the game until their return.
And just to further add to it, that's exactly what the notice says Honestly, it bothers me that the Baltic states are so often bundled in with Russia and CIS and thus get the region locking too despite us getting the EU pricing anyway. Or even better, game restricted to only the Russian language like Borderlands 2 had on launch. Even though Russian speakers are the minority Makes me worried at one point that when I decide to gift a game at full price to somebody I won't be able to because of said region locking. Well atleast this game is not that good according to the reviews. :v: [editline]totes a double post[/editline] Actually lets just throw in SteamDB's price list here too : https://steamdb.info/app/2870/
Restricting where you can play something on your own hard drive by location is just evil. They don't deserve a cent.
Restricted from playing it elsewhere? Bullshit.
It's only about russia, cis, brazil and se asia.
[editline]totes a double post[/editline] Actually lets just throw in SteamDB's price list here too : https://steamdb.info/app/2870/
Jesus I'd have to pay 30% more than the US for it.
Restricting where you can play something on your own hard drive by location is just evil. Erik Johnson on Valve's customer service:
"We think customers are right. When they say our support's bad, our initial reaction isn't to say, 'No, it's actually good. Look at all of this.' It's to say that, no, they're probably right, because they usually are when it comes to this kind of thing. We hear those complaints, and that's gonna be a big focus for us throughout the year. We have a lot of work to do there. We have to do better."

We hear those complaints, and that's gonna be a big focus for us throughout the year.
i think this year is gonna be good for valve
Valve has a new engine this year, and with it new development tools to breathe life into the modding community, something they've prepared for with the steam workshop and greenlight, and likely an express route for source 2 games to get on steam. With this, they make extreme revenue in workshop engine asset sales. The marketplace is out of beta, and all games (such as source2 games) can sell items on it. Also, steammachines, VR, a controller, and the superdeal Steam Link. PS: Many games in development for years
Sometimes I wish the browser was more hackable Just want to fix the things I'm breaking thanks
