does it look like the forum survived?
i read about this often online, 'If the steam machines are so high-pirced they won't sell'. do you think they won't sell better if the improvements to the metal from the new graphical APIs come out? don't forget that some manufacturers are very probably to release lower-priced models if they see that the concept appeals, even if the starting price is repulsive.
Something else a lot of people don't seem to realise is that there are a range of Steam machines from a number of manufacturers from low cost too obscene cost.

So, is there a connection between the name of the support tech and Crystal Maiden?
http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Crystal_Maiden
No idea how common the name "Rylai" is.
Probably stupid, and they are just using random names to keep the support tech anonymous. Just hadn't noticed it before.
I still have never sent or recieved a filtered link
Even my url shortener has been accepted, but still sometimes brings up the 'You're leavingn steam community' gate

Rylai has been her name since the first DoTA mod. To the point that League even has an item named Rylai's Crystal Scepter that's been around since well before DOTA2
What was that about the Steam app updating soon? Was there any basis to that?

Is there any estimate to the size of the update? I mean, is it just going to be a few new lines in the settings or something big?

Even so, with adding stuff I can only hope they bothered to fix/improve/do something else in the steam mobile client.
In my opinion, it isn't a proper day until you get at least one friend invite from a level 0 account that's trying to phish your account.
Why does Steam close the friendslist window if there is maintenance. I mean, come on, why? I hate it. I remember it not doing it a year ago. It closes itself whenever the servers seem to be offline. Does someone know you can disable it?

It's a bug. I've had it for... I don't know how long. I don't expect it to ever get fixed.
There's a related bug; if you set your status to Offline, then it will be reset to Online after Steam reconnects. It doesn't actually sign you out of friends, it just makes you appear offline. It's about equally as annoying.

Funny thing is I got bored the other day and played some dod:s of all games. Recorded a funny clip and it came out like that. Must be a source engine thing.
One of my friends unknowingly entered a game called 'Spacewar' on Steam, and I asked him what he was playing.
He said he wasn't aware he was in a game.
So I looked it up on the store, it wasn't there.
Then I looked it up on the database:
https://steamdb.info/app/480/
I installed it. It's really bad, there's like 3000 people playing.
I still don't understand why my friend unknowingly was playing this game.

Yeah they use it to get access some "steam connection required to work" things like multiplayer and etc.

What a shame it seems Spacewar's community hub have been removed, it used to be full of screenshots of games like Dead Island for example.

It was fun using it to track what country was currently playing pirated games based on the screenshots. Lots of Resident Evil 6 and Naruto meant South America and Mexicans were playing a lot, while FPSes and other non-RE action games meant the Russians and Ukranians were active.
Valve really need to improve their gradients.

it's almost as if they use the same compression method as the screenshot feature
