Snip, I got trolled
Why are some mods free and other cost money? Each mod author decides whether they think there is enough customer interest in their mod to list it for sale. Just like buying a game, paying for a mod helps to support and reward the team (sometimes consisting of just one person) who have worked hard to create that new content.
Oh shit here we go. I mean they've already had a few paid mods, I'm afraid of it wildly escalating though like workshop.

-Ninja'd-
My steam keeps freezing and stop responding. Anyone else having a similar problem?
Steam update for yesterday - Fixed choosing “Retry” on connection issues dialog to retry immediately without losing saved credentials and requiring you to re-type your password This is what my life has been missing.
Going to Pax Prime? There will be plenty of Vive content to check out this year. More info to come over the next few weeks.
https://twitter.com/chetfaliszek/status/631933106325340160
Got ours a bit early! ;) I know you guys are going to have a bunch of questions so: 1) I'm having a bunch of fun with it! 2) Yes, the trackpads are very good. 3) The controller is highly customisable and you can assign/reassign every single input. 4) I've played it with first person shooters and platformers so far. 5) I am fairly confident I could play PC games with it from my couch. 6) If you have tiny, tiny, childlike hands you might have trouble reaching some of the buttons. 7) It runs on two AA batteries and they each slide into the handles of the controller.
Neat. A couple of questions :p 1. Is the gyro working? One of the testers who received this new version, said it doesn't, but figured since you're a dev it might be different for you. 2. The triggers are dual-stage, can you set them to be digital-only or analog-only? 3. How's the API? I imagine devs can do a lot more things with that compared to the regular binding setup screen.
6) If you have tiny, tiny, childlike hands you might have trouble reaching some of the buttons.
Like... original Xbox controller size, or just slightly bigger than the smaller one the 360/One controllers are modeled after? Because it doesn't look all that big, although I guess I might be biased because my hands are pretty huge for my size.

I haven't tested anything that'd require tilt-to-steer racing wheel functionality and other motion-controlled inputs. I'll investigate further and let you know. 2. I believe you can set the triggers, yes. Here's the binding screen for one of the triggers: 3. Haven't really messed with it, but the binding screens are pretty extensive:
Does the binding UI only work in BPM or you can set it up in the regular desktop mode as well.
What are the advanced settings?
I know samurai punk got their steam controller earlier in the week. One of not many groups who have them in Australia, as they aren't for sale here yet. Xpaw says valve have been handing them out for a while, but this is two appearances in a week from developers
Does the binding UI only work in BPM or you can set it up in the regular desktop mode as well.
So far I've just been doing it through Big Picture Mode, yeah. There's probably a way of doing it in the desktop mode because you can also use it as a mouse outside of steam.
What are the advanced settings?
Just a few more sliders to tune the settings further.
I know samurai punk got their steam controller earlier in the week. One of not many groups who have them in Australia, as they aren't for sale here yet. Xpaw says valve have been handing them out for a while, but this is two appearances in a week from developers
We were supposed to get ours a while back but Valve held off so they could send us the final version of the controllers. This is the real deal as far as I know.
All this talk of steam controller and couch gaming makes me think that valve should really work on a new set of APIs to improve local multiplayer. Stuff like being able to identify a local player if it's connected to the same network as the current machine with the Steam app on his phone, then marking that user as playing that game locally with xxxx, even though he doesn't own it. It could be expanded to stuff like achievements, steam cloud settings, screenshots, fuck, they could even do something ala Xbox one and switch the currently controlling steam account over to the other local player, and then install his games and play them. Steam family sharing shows that the backend can be modified for this case.
The dev sign-ups for the steam controller went live a month ago, so Valve is pretty good with rolling them out so far. It took them longer with the Vive.
I know samurai punk got their steam controller earlier in the week. One of not many groups who have them in Australia, as they aren't for sale here yet. Xpaw says valve have been handing them out for a while, but this is two appearances in a week from developers
Multiple devs on twitter have showed they got one, including Tommy Refenes (and Steam Machine partners two weeks ago), the Owlchemy guys last week, Mike Bithell this week etc
do you guys think it was a bad idea for me to pre-order the steam controller? to me, even though pre-ordering is a bad idea, valve doesn't have a reputation for disappointing. i'm not saying valve can't disappoint, but with this situation it's safer pre-ordering the steam controller than if it was made by some other company. or am i acting like a complete idiot?

And most reasons that suggest a product is bad is a massive flaw in it's functionality, making it utter shit. But we know that Valve have gone through several designs based on a lot of internal and external feedback from professionals :quotes: to ensure that their product is enjoyed by the majority of consumers. Knowing this, preordering becomes a lot more acceptable, because you can assume that the quality of the product will be a lot higher than other products that have been pre-ordered by the masses and were not up to the state of quality. So, a real reason why someone would want to preorder, is if they wanted a wicked controller, and secure it before they go out of stock, and no one knows when they will go back in stock
did valve totally abandon their github? if so, where are they now?
did valve totally abandon their github? if so, where are they now?
depends, which github are you looking for?
did valve totally abandon their github? if so, where are they now?
They posted an OpenVR update yesterday: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/releases/tag/v0.9.8
