You can now purchase the Mad Max films on Steam
Valve's press release about this:
August 31, 2015 -- High definition digital versions of all four of the movies in the cult classic "Mad Max" series, as well as the new Mad Max video game in the series are available for sale now via electronic sell-through (EST) from Steam, it was announced today by the entertainment platform that allows users to play, connect, create, and more.
The "Mad Max" video game from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by Avalanche Studios makes its debut today and features open-world, third person action set in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Introducing an original story set within the universe of the "Mad Max" films, the game's launch on Steam is accompanied by the digital availability of all four films in the Mad Max Antholology; "Mad Max," "The Road Warrior," "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome," and the recently released "Mad Max: Fury Road."
The game and films will be offered in a variety of packages and price points to Steam gamers in the US, Canada, Russia, Brazil, South Korea and much of Europe. Fans in Spain (9/4), Germany (9/10), Norway (9/14), France (9/14) and the UK (9/21) who purchase any of the available packages now can access the catalog titles immediately and "Mad Fax: Fury Road" later in the month when the title is first available in the territory.
"Steam is a great partner for Warner Bros." said Jim Wuthrich, president of Americas, Warner Bros Home Entertainment. "Together we can offer fans a great, immersive film and interactive experience. Steam is the ideal place to launch both the fantastic new title from Avalanche as well as the full collection of films together."
"Just about every gamer is a fan of the Mad Max anthology," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "From the original to the amazing 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' these titles have captured the imagination of film and gaming fans alike. As Steam's library of games and movies continue to grow, the Mad Max game and film anthology represent major offerings for the platform."
Steam is a leading platform for games with thousands of titles and millions of gamers. Since March, Steam has also added 100 film titles, with more coming soon. EST was up 30% in 2014 over 2013, and EST for theatrical new release titles was up 60% in the same period of time.

I'm going to be super-hyped because it's not fucking Dota 2 or CS:GO.

I wonder if we will see more major film studios jump on board before the Steam Link is released.
I don't really understand how Steam is planning to compete with services like Netflix or YouTube VOD.
I don't really understand how Steam is planning to compete with services like Netflix or YouTube VOD.
Netflix is dropping more and more movies so I think it'd be possible to beat them.
Netflix is dropping more and more movies so I think it'd be possible to beat them.
My point was for the same price as the three movies listed for sale you could get over 6 months of Netflix subscription. Of course, I don't know how bad Netflix's selection is.
YouTube VOD on the other hand has all three available for rent, with the two older ones be $2.99 and the newer one for $15.99.
So, what exactly is Steam offering, or does the average person watch most movies many times over that outright owning the movie might be worthwhile?

the only upside i see to this is that steam will offer new releases that it will take netflix some time to acquire for streaming
the downside is that it seems you can only buy movies on steam, not rent.

What the hell is going on with my STEAM? As of this morning it will puke up a connection error within seconds when I try to login on my PC using the STEAM program, but I can log into the website just fine.
The -tcp trick doesn't do anything nor did deleting my clientregistry.
[editline]2nd September 2015[/editline]
It's also doing it on my laptop (running a ~1 month out of date STEAM), on the same router.
The routers settings have not been modified in any way and I have power-cycled it and the modem in an attempt to fix the odd DNS issues that crop up. No dice.

Apparently a lot of people on Reddit are having the same issue. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

Ted Kosmatka, who was a writer mainly on Dota has left Valve and is at Bungie. I only noticed his twitter saying Bungie now, but he left Valve earlier.
Secret Shop has always been a Unity project, but we ported the assets to Source 2 so that our graphics programmer had something to benchmark (this is before Robot Repair existed). We've done some experimentation in Unreal, but don't have anything that we'd be showing soon.
Youtuber did a short interview with Robin Walker at PAX about the Steam Controller. Nothing new, just an overview. Was surprised to see Walker, since he's supposed to be one of the main Dota guys.

Is Steam currently down? My Steam connection just died but my brother seems to be connected despite we're on the same router/ISP.
