Remember that portable Steam machine? They started a kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smachteam/smach-z-the-first-handheld-steam-machine It's still pretty sketchy. The video never shows a working model, just 3D prints of the casing. And I'm pretty sure the lady speaking in the video is just text-to-speech. I'm subscribed to their newsletter and they are usually filled with tons of translation errors. They also leave a lot of specifics out. Like the controls, which are modeled after the steam controller, have detachable button layouts that go on top of the touchpads. In steams current steam controller configurator, this isn't possible. [editline]More stuff[/editline] Honestly, most of the promises they make read like a post detailing a dream device from the steam forums.
If there's no working model, it can't even be on kickstarter.
They show a couple seconds of a model that looks like it has a screen and buttons, but they don't show it working. They also show the screen crudely put on top of a 3D print, running Fez.
Valve explains Security and Trading
i feel like i'm the only one that was with valve on this situation since it first started
i feel like i'm the only one that was with valve on this situation since it first started
Well I got my account semi-stolen (tried resetting my password and it sent the confirmation email to the an address I didn't recognize) like a week before they implemented that, and I pretty much understood why. It kinda sucks for those who don't own a smartphone, but like they said, the problem is so rampant that it's a necessary evil.
When's the Xmas sale expected to begin?
Dec 22 I beleive
Maybe it is your hard drive being stressed too much? That could be a good explanation why it doesn't do it when you throttle it.
It doesn't do it when I don't throttle it. I only get the intermittent pauses when I attempt to limit the download speed. [editline]9th December 2015[/editline]
Valve explains Security and Trading
In light of this I tried enabling the mobile authenticator. It rejected my SMS confirmation code but enabled mobile auth anyway. For some device that didn't exist. I couldn't get codes and had to go to support and reset everything with another SMS code. Thank you for using a proprietary two-factor authentication system instead of one that actually works, Valve.
Valve explains Security and Trading
I'm just glad they are being more open about why they are doing it instead of not saying anything at all.

Thank you for using a proprietary two-factor authentication system instead of one that actually works, Valve.

We needed to create our own two-factor authenticator because we need to show users the contents of the trade on a separate device and have them confirm it there. Requiring users to take a code from a generic authenticator and enter it into a hijacked PC to confirm a trade meant that hackers could trick them into trading away items they didn't intend to. This basically made it impossible to use a generic third party authenticator, such as Google Authenticator, to confirm trades.
That makes sense. [editline]9th December 2015[/editline] I still can't successfully enable it though.
Yeah I got fucked by valve. Mobile Authenticator and Trade Confirmation have been on for 7+ days. Still my knife is in escrow until Sunday. And even know I'm the one trading them away cancelling will result in 7 day trade ban. Lose lose. Punish a a majority for minority of people who lose accounts/skins.
Major Steam Controller update http://store.steampowered.com/controller/update/dec15 and

[del]portal 3?[/del] also, (from the controller update page)
This is a pretty dumb question, I haven't been keeping up to date with this, but is the major vtf-virus exploit still around? Mainly in sourcemods that are on Steam, like Fistful of Frags, Modular Combat, Fortress Forever, etc? I'd like to play some of these online but I'm worried it still exists in most mods.
I'm still waiting for a way to swap configs with the press of a button. Handy i.e. when you enter vehicles, or when you use different desktop programs.

IIRC the commands needed were something along the lines of:
sv_allowupload 0 // Fixes security exploit in source sv_allowdownload 0 // cl_allowdownload 0 // cl_downloadfilter none // cl_allowupload 0 // cl_customsounds 0 // cl_playerspraydisable 1 // Fin

Major Steam Controller update http://store.steampowered.com/controller/update/dec15
I wonder if websites will make re-testings of the SC after some updates are out. Some say stuff like "yeah it's ok but you should wait for Steam Controller 2"
"This journey will continue into the new year with a very exciting show at CES followed up by the Valve Content Showcase in Seattle." That was added today http://blog.htc.com/2015/12/remarkable-things-coming-soon/
Oh shit it's starting. People seem to believe that HTC created the Vive instead of Valve. I had a feeling that this is going to happen.
Please follow us through the upcoming ‘Vive Unbound’ event in Beijing and the CES show in Las Vegas, where more details about the next wave of developer kits will be revealed.
Dammit, this was the year I decided to not go to CES :hammered:
I see SteamDB reached out to Valve if the Content Showcase is going to be public. Marlamin, if you see this, UploadVR said in the email they got it's a public event:
The email from the SteamVR team details a new HTC Vive developer edition premiering at CES in January with a new industrial design that is said not to impact development. The reveal will be followed by a content showcase in Seattle where some developers will show experiences they have been working on to press and public.
http://uploadvr.com/htc-vive-consumer-version-slated-for-april-2016/

Completely missed UploadVR's mention of it though, thanks!
Now the question is if Valve themselves will show anything.
Anyone else with a link noticing terrible performance on it lately? Mine has been great for weeks but downloaded an update recently and now the picture and input from the controller lags and freezes a lot. I am not sure if the update broke it or if its just coincidence and my PC/router are being weird but it doesn't seem that way.

$20 for a foam crowbar? Fuck that
I can get the real deal cheaper.
