these ""animators"" don't exactly strike me as the best people but i guess i just think people shouldn't really be surprised this 8+ year old engine doesn't look fantastic years of tf2 "parodies" and skits should've already set the bar on what to expect from source video creators
but the engine isn't even the problem lol, SFM is capable of really cool things if you know how to use it, it's just that 99% of people who use it don't have the faintest idea about cinematography, lighting or animation in general :v and again, you're kinda missing the point
i've seen great things come from source, i'm just saying it's usually this level of quality coupled with problems it's had from the start but enough of antagonizing source i guess all we can hope for is the model creators/toby to take action against this eh, i don't know what to add to make myself look less like an idiot so i'll just stop talking about it

Unless you give $10 to their patreon and then you can see the the sources they used.
Credits aren't supposed to be a patron reward, they're a fundamental legal part of most media. If you tried to release a game where the credits were DLC, you'd likely be in big trouble.
I saw 50 new posts in here and expected something interesting may have happened or been announced or found, but instead everyone is acting like this is the first incident of bad Undertale content. Feels like you're trying desperately to fill up the thread
It's hard to let go despite there being very little to hold on to...
It's hard to let go despite there being very little to hold on to...
I miss back when this thread was filled with fan content like comics and the like. Unfortunate that we are in the day and age where even great hits like this game just get forgotten within a year or so, had it been released in a different time (not so stained by industry burn-out and community cynicism against literally everything) it might have had the same staying power of it's inspiration. The game certainly doesn't deserve the kind of hate it gets on the routine, but today's gaming communities are so jaded that if it has a 'bad community' they picked up from excerpts and funny snippets they found on 4chan ripped from deviantart, then the game obviously must be complete shit and they can't be seen playing it. There's honestly a reason why the smash hits of the past don't seem to be possible anymore, and its not just because the industry has become hollywood tier big and lazy, its also because the communities around gaming have gotten similarly hollywood in scope; large, angry, and cynical. Was easier back in the day when you could play a game and just enjoy it in the way you interpreted it, now we play a game and hop on our favorite communities that range from blind praise in an echo chamber to endless shitposting about stuff that's probably not even true. Imagine something like Super Mario 64 coming out today. Would fond memories of it have formed the same way had you frequented an online community that shoved the deviant-art tier 'mistakes into miracles' fanfics into the forefront for everyone to see?

Is funny how the first time I saw that " If Undertale was realistic video" on my feed my first impression was "Oh good! another one of THOSE videos". It doesn't even surprise that they actually had to steal assets to make that shit. Just the thumbnail alone screams lazy and shallow.
Special thanks to Coyoteze for making me aware of them using our model without crediting. Looks like they recently changed their tune and started adding credits in the video description now. Our Toriel model is still missing from the list though lol. [sp]PS Asgore is still being worked on[/sp]
Let's put this whole debacle out of our minds for now, and ask a less loaded question. What if the gang from DoctorTale decided to hang out and shoot the breeze in a cafe right before the Core? The answer is simple. Things go smoothly. A serene calm falls over the AU. Everyone has a chance to relax, drink coffee, and indulge in hot sweet cherry pie. In this issue of DoctorTale, Everything Is Absolutely Fine.
Off-topic from the whole "If Undertale was realistic" topic I was browsing Youtube and someone is actually making a Spongebob Undertale AU called "Spongetale". I wish I were kidding. Link because Genocide Run spoilers There's even custom made tracks for Spongetale. I know people like Spongebob, but liking it enough to make an Undertale AU of it? :what:
I'm sure there's other terrible AU variations of Undertale and that's only one of them. [sp]I still want a decent looking Gravity falls Undertale AU[/sp]
I'm guessing that the root of all these wild and innumerable AUs stems from the theme of different timelines, opening up a smorgasbord (and on the flipside, a Pandora's box) of what-ifs and variables. Couple that with fantastic characters, and you've got yourself alternate universes beyond counting.
Undertale Rising: Where Frank West goes to the Underground to take photos of the monsters.
Undertale Rising: Where Frank West goes to the Underground to take photos of the monsters.
He covered the human-monster war you know.
A collection of small observations on Undertale, all extremely spoilery. Deep Lore ahead: [sp]The animation of the barrier breaking mimics the heart breaking animation. This may have something to do with how the barrier is constituted-it may have itself been created through the sacrifice of the souls of the human magi that created it, though that's highly speculative.[/sp] [sp]It appears that the experience of Asriel, "sharing control" with Chara/the demon, was similar to the player's experience during the game. "Frisk, when <Name> and I combined our SOULs together... The control over our body was actually split between us. They were the one that picked up their own empty body. And then, when we got to the village... They were the one that wanted to...to use our full power." This is the creature's default behavior, as a sort of shoulder devil. Given that it uses similar language directed at the player during the genocide ending and some other spots, it appears likely that the entire friendship/plan/partnership element is entirely a method of gaining control of a new victim.[/sp] [sp]One of the main established traits of the demonic entity appears to be that it involuntarily responds to suffering with laughter. I'll not list the examples, but it comes up in battles and storyline moments in just about every path through the game. One weird one that's actually a book quote is documented at http://undertale-science.tumblr.com/post/136011592623/whoa-charadidnt-know-you-read-japanese[/sp] [sp]Flowey's facial reveal- with his eyes widening horizontally before laughing, is identical to chara's facial reveal at the end of a genocide run.[/sp] [sp]Based on some of the above, it appears likely that Flowey, when he was torturing/killing folks out of boredom, and to some extent when he was fighting the player at the end of a neutral run, is either directly being influenced by the demonic chara entity, or is influenced through the True Lab equipment and video equipment he's used to construct his body. He's similarly able to save, etc, and experiences a similar gamer's detachment.[/sp] [sp]It's unclear whether the Fallen Human, chara, is actually the exact same entity as Creepyface McJumpscare, or whether the human was actually another host/victim of the demon who was particularly susceptible to it due to whatever they experienced at the hands of humans before falling. If so, they are pretty much completely consumed by the creature, their "partner," after the fall, and are dead. We don't really have any understanding or exposure to them as a character.[/sp] [sp]Chara's "resurrection" occurs at the name entry screen, but one of Flowey's lines indicates that the person who actually re-summoned him at the place of his burial was Flowey- Flowey mentions calling "your" name when he recognizes you as Chara.[/sp] [sp]One possible interpretation is that Frisk actually is the original fallen human, who had indirectly regained control of themselves in their reincarnation. This is only backed up by the bandages connection, and the lack of other origins or reasons for Frisk's presence in the underground.[/sp] [sp]Weirdly, there's another pivotal moment in which a person's name is specifically called: when you call out Asriel's name at the very peak of the pacifist final battle, saving his soul.[/sp]
spoiler tag is nvm you got it
spoiler tag is nvm you got it
Sorry about that- the forums use a different tag system than I'm used to. I've been collecting the more valid-seeming observations of folks on Undertale for a while. It's a game that keeps surprising me with its unsolved, yet seemingly solveable, elements.
After 5 million fucking years, its finally done: Gundertale's continuation of Waterfall. 18 images, made over the course of 18 years. There was really no reason for it to take this long I'm just lazy. And yes I know my prediction of sept 16th was off by over a month. oops. When not immersed in an experience (which is fairly common these days), an otherwise truly horrific scene might illicit laughter from an indifferent gamer who just wants the cutscene to end to kill more npcs and screw around. It's extremely easy to just objectify video game characters, because they basically are fairly simple objects that you can interact with, lines of code with scripted dialogue and maybe recorded voice lines. You may find yourself doing things in GTA that would utterly disgust and horrify you in real life, or even in a different kind of game where the stakes are different and the world is presented in an alternate light.[/sp] [sp]When you play BF1's campaign, more often than not you'll just notice that its an extended tutorial for MP, and not even think about the dozens of soldiers you're killing, many of whom would have families just like you do. Undertale is special in that it takes that meta knowledge and weaves it into the narrative, giving you a weird sense of immersion that carries the message of the rest of the game. Had it not shown to you that saving and loading is very much something it recognizes, and that it's the very same thing that the main 'antagonist' struggled with and was corrupted by, the game might not have been nearly as impactful.[/sp]

Chocolate's the easy example.
Oh my god, could SOMEONE please help me figure out how to disable the goddamn music??? I'm working on something in Premiere using footage of the [sp]Asriel[/sp] fight, and basically I need good recordings of the sfx sequences of his various attacks. I WAS just going to rebuild them, but they're... surprisingly complex and tedious, and I'm not positive the sfx archive I've been using even HAS all the necessary ones. However, Undertale has no freaking audio setting options, so the best I've seen are people saying you can copy and rename the temporary directory the game runs from (IXP000.TMP) to something with odd letters, and it'll fail to load music for one session. Buuut... I can't FIND this directory. Gone into Appdata/Local/Temp, and no such file or folder exists. Of course, mine is the Steam version, so maybe I just have to replace the .ogg file for "Hopes and Dreams" with a silent track. ...But I can't find THAT either. I can find damn near every track as an .ogg in the main directory, but I can't find any of the tracks from that battle except the short metal interlude that happens halfway through. What the fuck, it's like I've been deliberately sabotaged here :ohno:

They are all called 'xpart' Look at one of the soundtrack replacement mods (like gilvatale) to see how they replace music, then simply replicate it with silent tracks.

I'll update this post if it works. EDIT: It works!!! Now I just have to figure out a better capture solution, because evidently since the last time I used Fraps they've cut free users off from more than 30 seconds of footage... and Windows 7 can't just record it's own stereo mix like in the XP days...
Lets start posing more art, it's been a while since I've gotten my fix.
Quick question- what music plays in the hall leading to the exit from the ruins? It's really slowed down.
