They try, one can hope with proper critique they'll grow to become great 3d artists. Transferring stylized 2d sprites into 3d requires not only decent modelling skills, but also some artistic interpretation. That's where most issues stem from I imagine.

Yeah, the only way that I see [sp]you saving asriel is by resetting so hard that you go back in time to when Chara was still alive, or by waiting so long that he's back to normal. Think about how a serial killer, even after they've been locked up for decades, can still feel no remorse. With Asriel you're looking at several centuries or even millenia of time for him to go back to normal.
