Maaaan, hearing that again bums me out. I wish Homestuck didn't go the direction it did. The early acts were great.

At least Problem Sleuth is still amazing and that'll never change.

I never had any beef with the trolls. even the ones that were "killed off" early had/have great dynamics with each other (equius being creepy with absolutely everyone he talks to is my particular favorite) but that's a discussion for the mspa thread so whatever

I went back to it again later and that act wasn't so bad, but the cliffhanger that came before it blinded me

for lack of serial media to follow recently, i looked into Cucumber Quest after being clued in on the whole Noisemaster -> Mettaton music connection, and it's real nice Super easy to read and the narrative is quite welcoming if you're coming from Undertale, very similar themes of grey morality with the same kind of fantasy trope deconstructions

It leaves the future of monster/human kind entirely up to the player[/sp], which reinforces one of the game's themes and allows the player to integrate themselves even further into the story. Keep in mind that one of the game's central themes [sp]is that it regularly can and will address you, the player as an individual, and draw YOU into the world instead of expecting you to just sit in frisk's shoes like most narrative games.[/sp] Imagine how Undertale 2 would go, despite Toby Fox likely giving it amazing writing and a fantastic soundtrack, if everything is ultimately wrapped up then the ending will have not nearly the same impact, it'll end on a low note and quite possibly sour the entire 'canon' as it were, just look at mass effect 3 for the difficulties of ending a long series that attempts to value player agency. [sp]not to mention it completely invalidates the genocide and neutral routes, ruining the personal 'true endings' of many players and cheapening the entire experience[/sp] The only way Undertale 2 can happen is if its from a completely different perspective, with [sp]the way the monsters managed to leave the underground[/sp] being a complete mystery, and perhaps [sp]frisk/chara[/sp] turning into a forgotten legend.

Mechanically it'd feel like more of the same. As far as story themes go (such as the divergence between fight/mercy) would feel very samey. The story itself wouldn't feel satisfying to have all of those loose ends tied up so cleanly. Even if it were created by Toby himself, it wouldn't really feel like a faithful rendition. The twists that the game tosses your way only really work once, doing something similar in a sequel would feel disingenuous to the game's intent. At most, I could see an extension of Hard mode to the remainder of the game. In a vain similar to how the merciless path diverges from the natural route, it'd give the player a perspective on the world if everything [i]suuuucked[/i]. But even that wouldn't feel wholly satisfying unless it offered some sort of differences to keep the player going. Little quirky things like Napstablook not getting the memo and thus not using hard-mode attacks. For the major encounters it'd still feel like more of the same, and I feel that the challenging fights that show up in the merciless run are Toby's attempts to create a hard-mode variant of Undyne and Papyrus' fights, and that's fine because they exist in that different context. It's a bit like Cave Story, there's really not much else to expand upon without sullying the rest of the experience. The best that could be done would be to create specialized challenge runs like how Cave Story+ added Wind Fortress and Boss Rush. I'm content with the non-game content that Toby has planned such as that comic and merchandise that's been shown on fangamer.

As far as expansion to the game goes I just want gaster game
