I somehow doubt he would make those faces, but that's personally to me.

And not a murderer.

They're what you call TRAGIC, tragedy is one of the oldest forms of drama used in media, mainly because of how effective it is at eliciting emotion. take a guess on the name of a certain game that also plays on the theme of tragedy. [sp]the story on the amalgamates are ultimately tragic more than anything else, and yes they can be very disturbing even with the context of them being more like clueless pets than murderous monsters, even moreso considering that they used to be living thinking individuals with lives, and now they're nothing more than shambling messes of matter that can barely form a sentence. It would be like watching a best friend slowly erode away thanks to alzheimers, only FAR worse.[/sp] also, tag your spoilers!
